Powassan Voodoos bring back West Nipissing native to bolster lineup
Article content The Powassan brought back a familiar local player to their offensive group with the addition of forward Jesse Lefebvre. Article content The Voodoos acquired the 19-year-old product from Sturgeon Falls from the Renfrew Wolves of the Central Canadian Hockey League for a development fee. Article content 'It's great to be back around the Bay,' said Lefebvre, a 2022 draft pick of the North Bay Battalion. Article content Article content The 5-foot-9, 160-pound forward had nine goals and seven assists for 16 points in 50 games in the CCHL last season. Article content Article content In his rookie season of Junior 'A' hockey with the French River Rapids in 2023-24, Lefebvre had 13 goals and 24 assists for 37 points in 56 games. Article content In his final year of U18 hockey, Lefebvre racked up 19 goals and 28 assists for 47 points in 28 games with the U18 AAA Trappers, who won the Great North U18 title in 2022-23. Article content During that season with the U18 Trappers, Lefebvre played the majority of his time alongside current Voodoos players Justin Rousseau and Caleb Dawson. Article content 'We already have that connection so it will work right away.' Article content Lefebvre becomes the 6th member of that U18 Trappers championship team from 2022-23 to join the Voodoos for the upcoming season, joining Rousseau, Dawson, Cayden Kowal, Anthony Boyes and Heath Bradley. Article content Article content 'He will still have to blend well with guys that are here, but I like the way it is looking and super excited to have six guys off one team that came together and won a championship, that doesn't happen very often,' said Peter Goulet, Powassan Voodoos head coach. Article content Aside from his offence, Lefebvre is also known as an agitator who proudly boasts he models his game after Stanley Cup winner Brad Marchand of the Florida Panthers. Article content 'I have always been a Marchand fan and I always will be,' said Lefebvre.

Powassan Voodoos sign North Bay Battalion draft pick
Article content The Powassan Voodoos have signed North Bay U18 AAA Trappers power forward Cameron Lockhart, the club announced on Wednesday. Article content The 6'2', 194 pound right shot forward selected in the 15th round of the 2024 OHL Priority Selection by the North Bay Battalion, is coming off an impressive season in Great North U18 League where he had 18 goals and 25 assists for 43 points in only 23 games with the North Bay U18 AAA Trappers coached by former Voodoos assistant coach Josh Dale. 'It's an honour, it's a fast game and I can't wait for the new season,' Lockhart said about playing for the Battalion affiliate team. 'I am ready to work, I want to win a championship and hopefully we can get something good going this season.' Chris Dawson, Voodoos GM, likes what the 2008 birth year forward brings to the Voodoos for the 2025-26 season. 'Cam has a lot of great tools,' said Dawson. 'He likes to play on the edge and scouts have compared his game to Matthew Tkachuk's. He has a great combination of skill, physicality along with a great shot that we are excited to see this upcoming season.' Lockhart was among the 88 players who attended the Voodoos Prospects Camp on the July 5 and 6 weekend at Pete Palangio Arena in North Bay. The North Bay product will continue to train in preparation for both the Voodoos training camp which begins August 20 and the North Bay Battalion training camp which starts August 25.

Powassan Voodoos add one-time Iroquois Falls Storm forward
Article content The Voodoos added some more experience to the forward group signing 2005 birth year forward Patrice Lafontaine, the club announced on Monday. Article content The left hand shot forward spent last season playing in the EOJHL for the Embrun Panthers while attending college where he had 3 points in 10 games. Article content Article content The year prior in 2023-24, Lafontaine netted 16 goals and added 17 assists for 33 points in 50 games with the Iroquois Falls Storm of the NOJHL. Article content Article content Article content Article content Article content Article content 'I'm looking forward to having a good season in Powassan.' Lafontaine believes his responsible two-way play will benefit the Voodoos in 2025-26. 'I believe I can help this team with an high offensive skillset, great hockey IQ and good hands around the offensive net,' said the Timmins product. 'I can also bring good offence to the powerplay, and I am a responsible defensive player in our defensive zone. ' Voodoos GM Chris Dawson feels Lafontaine is a good fit. 'Patrice is from a good family, he has a solid skill set and his experience and willingness to play a 200 foot name should make him fit in well what coach Goulet wants to do this season,' said Dawson. Lafontaine, whose brother Phil has signed with the North Bay U18 AAA Trappers, will join his younger brother in North Bay July 5and 6 for the Voodoos Summer Prospects camp at Pete Palangio arena.
