I'm a travel expert — this European city with £15 flights from UK is the most underrated destination

Cheap Holiday Expert Chelsea Dickenson is always on the lookout for destinations where you can get more bang for your buck - and she thinks this city break should be on your radar
Travel guru Chelsea Dickenson is always on the hunt for ways to cut down travel costs, whether that's finding loopholes in airline baggage fees, sharing packing tips, or swapping popular holiday spots for lesser-known destinations. Chelsea, better known as Cheap Holiday Expert, recently highlighted underrated city breaks that should be on your radar, especially if you're looking to save a few bob without skimping on the thrill of travel.
Chelsea recently teamed up with Boots to put together ready-made bundles containing all the essentials for festivals, beach trips, and adventures so customers can get everything they need in one go, without having to shell out a small fortune.
Being a lover of a good deal, Chelsea is always scouting for destinations where her money will go further. There's one European city Chelsea reckons is grossly underrated, despite the country receiving heaps of praise for its coastal spots in recent years.
Speaking to the Express, she said: "So one place I think should be on more people's radar, it's really interesting, because Albania has been getting lots more attention, but more for their Riviera...I'm saying their capital Tirana is absolutely gorgeous."
Nestled in the heart of Albania, the capital city Tirana is surrounded by mountains and hills, including Dajti. The city was established by an Ottoman Albanian general in 1614 and became an independent nation in 1912, nearly three centuries later.
Chelsea praised Tirana as a haven for those who love green spaces, boasting numerous outdoor areas to unwind in during the sunny summer months. She suggested that when the weather is favourable, one should delve into the local cafe and restaurant scene.
Chelsea added: "They have such a brilliant cafe and restaurant culture, so there's so many outdoor places to sit. I was getting their traditional pastries for I think 45 pence each. So you can eat super affordably."
The city is brimming with Balkan pastries, with an Albanian local highlighting treats like borek, kadai and baklava. Another speciality to try is kompekaj, akin to the well-loved baklava.
A Tirana local offered some tips on the best culinary spots. Kernace Zgare Fatosi is the go-to for fans of kofta, breads and yoghurt.
For an extra-special experience, they recommend visiting at twilight for a truly magical atmosphere.
If you're keen to sample some traditional Albanian cuisine, make your way to Restorant GjinoKastra for some authentic pacha - or stew - featuring some surprising ingredients... like sheep head, if that's your cup of tea. They also suggest trying some Turkish coffee, though be warned that these coffee shops are invariably rammed.
For some cultural exploration and attractions, consider Skanderbeg Square, Kalaja e Tiranes (Tirana Castle), the New Bazaar in Pazari i Ri, and Sofra e Aruit, a bear cafe with bears within arm's reach.
Chelsea also highlighted the city's drinking scene, such as Blloku. To savour a tipple whilst soaking up panoramic views of the city, the rooftop at the Xheko Imperial Hotel is "amazing".
Another perk of visiting Tirana?
The bargain flights. Chelsea flagged up the Albanian capital as one of the rare destinations where you could bag a return flight for roughly £40 during quieter periods.
A flight from London Stansted with Ryanair in September could see you fork out just £15 each way. Chelsea managed to keep costs down, spending only £100 on a three-day, two-night break in the city.
"You know, holidays are getting more expensive," Chelsea said. "It's one of those places that you can go and do not have to spend a fortune."

When we travel abroad, many of us like to try out the local cuisine and avoid food spots that we can easily get at home. But, often, some of our favourite brands offer different menus we wouldn't be able to try at home. Plus, if you're partying all night and get the munchies you know you can relay on McDonald's at the end of the night. ‌ While we all know what McDonald's restaurants looks like, the menus vary by location to reflect local tastes and traditions - and there are a few which look nothing like the other eateries, such as the biggest McDonald's restaurant is in Orlando, Florida. ‌ In New Zealand, there is also a McDonald's where food is served from an abandoned aeroplane, plus there is a floating McDonald's service in Germany. Plus recently, fans discovered a rather spectacular McDonald's in Goshen, Indiana, located in what looks like an entire Medieval castle. ‌ Holiday experts at Travel Republic say that there are many more unique McDonald's eateries that many are unaware of - and look completely different to a typical McDonald's. One viral TikTok with almost 128,000 views shows the fast-food chain in Budapest transforming after 10pm with a DJ set and lights. The burger joint is called McDonald's Nygati and it is close to Budapest train station. It first opened in 1990 and even then was said to be one of the most beautiful chains in the world. Some have compared it to a "five star hotel",reports the New York Post. ‌ In 2024 the spot was closed for eight months of renovations, said to have cost over £3.6million. Old features inside have been resorted, touch screen tills have been added plus a new outside area. It boasts antique lamps, painted stucco ceilings, huge glass windows, and large terrace area to enjoy meals outside. Recently a video went viral of one customer, named Elena, showing off the beauty of the McDonald's following a first time visit. The clip showed the eatery looking like a nightclub after 10pm. ‌ On Friday and Saturday nights you can order a Big Mac and boogie on down as the immersive events see the grand ceiling inside the restaurant transform into a light show. You will see everything from a journey through space, fish swimming in the ocean or the jungle. Plus, there are also DJs spinning live decks between 10am and 4am. There are even special food options, including the Goosey Gustav burger, which has foie gras on top, and gluten-free buns. Food can be seen moving through the restaurant on conveyer belts, Elena showed in her video. On Trip Advisor, one individual said: "Worth a visit if you're nearby. It;s situated beside the train station in a beautiful building unlike any other McDonald's I've been too. Service was quick." Another wrote: "The most elegant McDonald's in Europe, on Fridays and Saturdays you dance from 9pm onwards is on the roof are projected lights and animations. Characteristic is the building adjacent to the Budapest train station."

A spokesperson for Brussels Airlines told Sun Travel: "As like many airlines, we constantly review our network. At the beginning of every season, some destinations might see higher frequencies and we might decrease capacity to some other markets. "In that light, we have indeed decided not to offer Birmingham anymore as of winter 25. "We remain active on other routes in the United Kingdom, such as Manchester (13 flights weekly) and London Heathrow (20 flights weekly) and Edinburgh." The 70-minute route was reinstated in October 2024 after being halted during the summer period - but will be axed again. Currently, Brussels Airlines is the only carrier connecting Birmingham directly with the Belgian capital. Going forward, travellers from Birmingham will have to fly to the likes of Frankfurt and take a connecting flight to Brussels. Another option is to depart from Birmingham to Munich and connect from there. Around 820,000 British tourists visit Brussels every year, to see classic sights like the Grand Place and the Maison du Roi. There's tasty food to be tried there too like moules-frites (mussels and fries) as well as Belgian waffles and of course, Belgian chocolate. Consumer champions Which? asked holidaymakers to rate cities that were less than a seven-hour train journey from London. Bruges in Belgium bagged the top spot, with a score of 85 per cent. Factors included were food and drink, accommodation, cultural sights and attractions and value for money. An overall score was then worked out for each city, based on overall satisfaction and likeliness to recommend other people. Taking a train to Bruges from London St Pancras International takes three-and-a-half hours. People surveyed praised Bruges for its chocolate shops and cafes, giving it four out of five stars for its food and drink. Plus, here's more on the new European train that goes through seven countries and costs just £99 - and it starts in Brussels. And another Belgian city that has the 'best beer in the world'.

M&S has opened its first ever airside supermarket at a London airport

Sometimes the airport just doesn't deliver when it comes to food. You don't always want a soggy Boots meal deal, or a greasy 'Spoons fry up. Sometimes what you need is an M&S crayfish sandwich with sea salt and balsamic vinegar crisps followed by Percy Pigs for pudding. So, we have good news, because Marks & Spencer has opened its first-ever airside supermarket in London Heathrow Airport (LHR), meaning from now passengers can stock up on Colin the Caterpillar bites, mini flapjacks and posh crisps before jetting off on their flights. M&S has launched two food shops inside Heathrow Terminal 5 – one at Gate A and one at Gate B. The shop at Gate A opened on Monday July 21, selling meal deals and food to go, while the Gate B outpost will open later in the week, selling items designed to be gifts including Percy Pigs, biscuit tins and the Big Daddy chocolate bar. The stores will be open from first flight to last flight, operating from 4.30am to 11pm. Right now the two shops are only operating as pop-ups. M&S hasn't confirmed if they will become a permanent fixture, or when the pop-ups will close. The arrival of M&S at Heathrow comes days after LHR revealed a multi-billion-pound investment plan to fund its future expansion, which will involve raising passenger charges. The airport also hopes to open its controversial third runway within the next 10 years. M&S, meanwhile, opened a new London Food Hall in Leytonstone this week.
