ALLY McCOIST took issue with his TalkSPORT producers this morning when asked to introduce an item on Rangers' pursuit of Davide Ancelotti with the words "sadly it's not Carlo".
Despite some serious experience with the likes of Bayern, Napoli, Everton and Real Madrid, the Italian who has emerged as front runner hasn't presided over a single competitive match.

McCoist felt the script he was asked to read out was a little harsh
That's in marked contrast to dad Carlo, who has won everything the game has to offer, including a whopping FIVE Champions League titles.
But as he read out the script comparing the two, McCoist was rather taken aback - insisting the line "was a bit harsh".
He read: 'A one way ticket to Scotland, Barry Ferguson's replacement looks like it's a box office name but hold on, wait, it's sadly ... sadly it's not Carlo?
"That's a bit harsh? I just said sadly, it might be Carlo although I doubt it very much. It looks like it is his son, Davide.'
Davide, of course, has been termed Carlo's "secret weapon" - and the man who does much of the talking and thinking in the relationship.
McCoist returned to the subject later on, to admit he didn't know too much about the Italian, but insisted he didn't "neccesarily think the club moving in a different direction is a bad thing".
He said: "That's an interesting one. I can't lie to you.
"I don't know a lot about Davide Ancelotti. It's a different direction and I don't necessarily think it is a bad thing.
"If the new takeover comes in, I would imagine there would be some money.
"They just need to regroup, stabilise themselves."

Abramovich hopes for 'proper goodbye'

Former Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich says he wants to return to Stamford Bridge for "a proper goodbye", in his first interview since sanctions forced him to sell the club in oligarch, who the UK Government allege has strong links to Russian president Vladimir Putin, has not spoken since the sale of Chelsea and his last known interview was with Forbes in March an interview in Abu Dhabi in February for the book "Sanctioned" by Nick Purewal, Abramovich ruled out re-investing in Chelsea or, indeed, any other football club. But he said he wants to return to Stamford Bridge someday. "Perhaps one day there would be a situation where I could attend a match and say a proper goodbye, but nothing more than that," he is quoted as saying. He added: "I don't have any interest in any role in a football club, certainly not a professional role."Abramovich also says he still wants a resolution to the war in Ukraine, insisting his efforts to act as a peacekeeper in talks in Turkey in 2022 were is the first time he has spoken since he sold Chelsea for £2.5bn to Todd Boehly and Clearlake Capital, who have overseen two underwhelming years before finishing fourth this season to qualify for the Champions League and winning the Conference League. Boehly, who also part-owns successful baseball franchise the LA Dodgers and basketball team the LA Lakers, said in the book: "If you look at our ambitions for the Dodgers and for the Lakers, you're here to win, and it's our business to win; and we're doing everything we can do to win. "Our goal with Chelsea is also to win silverware, because we know, and I know, how much it means to the fans. It makes you appreciate again that sport makes people happy, especially when you win. And Chelsea is supposed to win. "But I really believe that sustained success is an investment, and no matter what business I'm in, or any industry, there are no shortcuts."Meanwhile, Abramovich's comments have emerged just a week after the UK government threatened to sue him, with proceeds from the sale of the club still stuck in a frozen bank account. The UK government wants the money to be for Ukrainian humanitarian aid, but "all victims of the war in Ukraine".Chelsea are also under investigation by the Premier League for alleged irregular payments from Abramovich-era transfer activity.

Revealed: What's really going on with Real Madrid and Martin Zubimendi after Arsenal thought they had sealed the deal for Spanish midfielder

Real Madrid have reportedly sought to play down suggestions they have attempted to hijack Arsenal 's deal to sign Real Sociedad star Martin Zubimendi this summer. Arsenal have long been viewed as the clear frontrunners for the Spanish international midfielder. Mail Sport reported back in January that Arsenal had virtually agreed a £51million deal for Zubimendi, but Real Sociedad wanted him to remain at the club until the end of the season. Reports from Spain on Monday claimed Real Madrid were set to make a move to convince Zubimendi to join them over the Gunners. Marca's report claimed Real Madrid had contacted Zubimendi's entourage to determine whether he had finalised a deal with Arsenal, which his camp were claimed to have denied. The report claimed Real Madrid's call has 'changed everything' with Zubimendi becoming aware of the possibility of joining the club. Arsenal are reported to view their deal for the Spain international to have been completed Football's most original new podcast: Whistleblowers Hosted by Gordon Smart, with ex-elite referee Mark Clattenburg and veteran journalist Ian Ladyman, this isn't another safe roundtable of punditry. However, according to the Athletic, Real Madrid officials have expressed their admiration for the midfielder but have denied that the Spanish giants had made an effort to sign him. Arsenal are said to regard their deal with Zubimendi to have been signed, with the midfielder expected to link up with Mikel Arteta's side for pre-season training. The wait for official confirmation of Zubimendi's transfer, with other deals having been announced in the first summer window, is reportedly due to Real Sociedad wanting to ratify the deal in July for accounting purposes. Zubimendi had spoken out about his future last week, ahead of Spain's Nations League matches. The 26-year-old midfielder admitted he faces a 'long summer' amid speculation over his next club. Zubimendi also labelled Real Madrid boss Xabi Alonso as his 'idol', even before working with the former midfielder when he coached Real Sociedad's B-team. 'Of course there are options, but it's true that it looks like it's going to be a different, long summer, and I don't know how it's going to end. 'I don't think thinking about that right now is my priority. I'm here with the national team, which I think is already quite demanding, and if I have to say something, I'll do it. 'I've always said he was my idol and that it was a stroke of luck for me that he was able to coach me in the reserve team during a very important year. The Gunners expect Zubimendi to join up with Mikel Arteta's squad for pre-season training 'The following season, I made it into the first team, and, well, I don't like to talk about those hypotheticals, I prefer to talk about the present.' A product of Sociedad's youth system, Zubimendi has gone on to play 236 times for the club, while he has represented Spain on 17 occasions. He has long been regarded as one of the best midfielders in LaLiga and last summer was close to joining Liverpool, who came in for him after he helped Spain to win Euro 2024. However, Zubimendi ultimately decided to stay at Sociedad after his boyhood club attempted to change his mind. Zubimendi scored in the Nations League final on Sunday as Spain drew 2-2 with Portugal, but suffered defeat in a penalty shoot-out.

World's most valuable players revealed as Jude Bellingham leapfrogs Erling Haaland… but lags behind Lamine Yamal

FOOTBALL'S most valuable superstars have been revealed. This summer the Club World Cup has seen the creation of a unique transfer window format, with the shopping window open twice after a closure in the middle. 5 5 5 5 5 June 10 represents the end of the first stage of the window, before it reopens on June 16 and runs through to September 1. And for any clubs looking to splash some serious cash on one of world football 's best stars, figures from Transfermarkt have revealed the current top 10 most valuable players. Kicking the list off at number 10 is the oldest player on the list, Federico Valverde. The 26-year-old has been a top star for Real Madrid for a number of years and consequently he has a huge transfer value of £110million (€130m). The midfielder is one of four Real Madrid Galacticos to be named on the list. Three stars have an identical value of £118m (€140m) from nine down to seven, and are all 22 years of age. Germany stars Jamal Musiala and Florian Wirtz both ply their trade in the Bundesliga for Bayern Munich and Bayer Leverkusen, respectively, while Spain star Pedri plays for Barcelona in La Liga. Pedri's value has increased from £101m in the last edition of the figures in March, no doubt due to Barcelona's league-winning campaign and semi-final Champions League run. However, of the three, only Wirtz has been linked with a mega-money transfer away from his club, with Liverpool trying to find a middle ground with Bayer over a fee. The Reds' latest offer saw them submit an offer worth £113m, although that is still some way short of the £126m Erik ten Hag 's new outfit want to sell. New footage sees raging Jude Bellingham KICK VAR monitor in frustration after Real Madrid's last-gasp defeat The sixth player on the list is valued at £126m (€150m) and is the first English star to be named, Arsenal 's Bukayo Saka. The 23-year-old's ability speaks for itself, and England saw how much they missed his flair and creativity against Andorra at the weekend. Getting into the top five, Brazil superstar Vinicius Jr was previously the joint most expensive star on the list at £169m (€200m). However, a disappointing season that left Real Madrid without a trophy saw his value decrease to £143m (€170m), which now ranks the 24-year-old ranked fifth. Just above him is team-mate Kylian Mbappe, who despite having the same lack of silverware has actually seen his value increase to £152m (€180m). That figure is identical to former Borussia Dortmund duo Erling Haaland and Jude Bellingham. Manchester City ace Haaland, 24, was previously valued at £169m, but like Vinicius, suffered a slight reduction after seeing his club fail to win a major trophy. Bellingham, 21, managed to escape the same fate and has remained on the £152m valuation. However, those figures place the trio behind Barcelona prodigy Lamine Yamal. Yamal is one of the front-runners for the Ballon d'Or as a result of his stellar season for his club. He saw his value increase to now make the 17-year-old the single most expensive player in world football. Yamal only recently signed a new contract with Barcelona that will see him earn £33.5m per year. Cole Palmer narrowly missed out on the top 10 after seeing his value fall to £102m, putting him level with Declan Rice and Alexander Isak. Former Crystal Palace star Michael Olise is now in the top 20 after seeing his value rise to £85m. This matches Alexis Mac Allister and Phil Foden, the latter of whom has lost almost £25m in value. Champions League winners Desire Doue and Khvicha Kvaratskhelia have gone up in value to now be worth £76m, with Ballon d'Or candidate Ousmane Dembele valued the same.
