EastEnders fans 'in tears' as Linda Carter makes emotional exit after revealing huge secret

Daily Mirror22-07-2025
EastEnders aired an emotional exit for Linda Carter today as she said goodbye to the Vic, but not before dropping a huge bombshell - and fans predict trouble ahead...
It was an emotional episode of EastEnders tonight as Linda Carter said goodbye to the Vic and to Albert Square - for a while. Despite knowing she'd be back - fans were still left in tears.

The Carters and Knights have officially ended their reign as landlords of the beloved pub, with Kat Slater set to return as landlady. In tonight's episode, the family finished off packing up and Linda and her children headed off for a well deserved break on a cruise, while Elaine remains in Walford.

It marks the end of an era and a fresh start for the family, as Elaine persuaded Linda to tell Oscar that Annie was his half sister. Linda was reluctant to tell Oscar, adamant she didn't want Max to know. However, a cheeky Oscar didn't look like he was willing to keep the secret as he responded: "And miss his face when he finds out?"

However, later on in the episode, Linda was seen begging Lauren to ask Oscar not to tell Max - as Lauren reassured her that none of them have a relationship with their father. Lauren then had another chat with Oscar, and as Linda got ready to hop into a black cab, Lauren reassured her: "It's OK, he's not going to say anything, are you?"
"No," Oscar responded. "No-one wants my dad back round here." Linda thanked Oscar and proceeded to say a teary goodbye to Tracey and her mum Elaine.

Fans were left in tears, as one wrote on X, formerly known as Twitter: "Tracy & Linda's goodbye hug. I'm not crying you are," posted one fan, as another said: "Trying to cope with not seeing Linda for several weeks now that she's gone on her cruise. I'm going to miss her so bloody much."
A third emotional fan penned: "It's official, Linda has left the Vic and has gone on holiday for weeks now. Her goodbye to Trace and Elaine saying she's proud of her. I'm so emotional."

Others were convinced that there'd be trouble waiting for Linda upon her return. It's been revealed that Max Branning (Jake Wood) will be making a return later this year, and fans think he'll be back in the Square waiting for Linda upon her return.
Taking to X, formerly known as Twitter during the episode, one fan penned: "Why do I get the feeling that Max will be back on the Square by the time she comes back to Walford. Linda took a massive risk telling Oscar about Annie - I just hope Max's return doesn't trigger another relapse as Linda has done so well to stay sober."
Another said: "We know Max is on his way back to Walford - but could this be what brings Max back to the Square. I hope Oscar doesn't say anything," as a third agreed: "Linda's definitely gonna return from her holiday to see that Max is back in Walford, can't wait."

Harrison Ford criticizes state of American politics under Trump

"And, as nature dictates, it will swing back," Ford said. The "Shrinking" star added that "the issue is not who we are, but that we're not who we used to be because we've been purposefully disaggregated into serviceable political units." Which celebs support Harris, Trump? Beyonce, Taylor Swift, Amber Rose, Jason Aldean, more The Oscar nominee told the outlet that shifts in political tone have "caused the middle to become frayed," but said that "the middle is where we belong" because "compromise is fair and honest." The leading man - who clenches his hands together on a wooden chair in a black tuxedo on the Variety cover - said the country is "having a hard time finding commonality." But he pointed to Americans figuring out "where the commonality is" as they look to the economy: "It's where it always was: Rich get richer, and poor get poorer. And that ain't exactly right." Ford endorsed Trump's opponent - former Vice President Kamala Harris - days before the Nov. 5 election, which she ultimately lost. In his endorsement video of Harris, the Hollywood icon told fans "look, I've been voting for 64 years." In the black-and-white video footage posted online, Ford went on to say he never really wanted "to talk about it very much," and urged voters to "move forward" with Harris. "When dozens of former members of the Trump administration are sounding alarms saying, 'for God's sake, don't do this again,' you have to pay attention," Ford said in the video. "They're telling us something important." Contributing: Natalie Neysa Alund

Dawson's Creek star James Van Der Beek shares health update after cancer diagosis

Dawson's Creek star James Van Der Beek said living with cancer feels like a 'full-time job' in a health update following his colorectal cancer diagnosis Dawson's Creek star James Van Der Beek said living with cancer feels like a 'full-time job' as the star shared a health update after he was diagnosed with Stage 3 colorectal cancer in August 2023. The actor, who has been married to business consultant Kimberly Brook since 2010 and shares six kids with her, said the cancer will be a 'process for the rest of his life'. ‌ When James first revealed the news last year, he told fans he was "privately dealing" with the diagnosis and was taking precautionary steps to "resolve it". The 48-year-old actor, who made his screen debut in 1993 in an episode of Clarissa Explains It All, said he had the support of his 'incredible family' and added: "There's reason for optimism, and I'm feeling good." ‌ READ MORE: Dermatologist-approved skincare brand loved by Strictly star is 30% off for few days only ‌ And now, the star spoke to and shared an update on his 'journey'. He said: "It's a process. It'll probably be a process for the rest of my life." He admitted living with cancer felt like a "full-time job" and he's focusing on finding "the beauty of just taking things a little bit more slowly and prioritising rest and really allowing that to be the job". James went on to urge people to get screening for colorectal cancer, adding that he was screened at 46, a year after the recommended screening age. ‌ "I thought I was way ahead of the game," James explained. "I ate as well as I could. I was healthy. I was in amazing cardiovascular shape. There was no reason in my mind that I should have gotten a positive diagnosis." The actor is currently working on the Legally Blonde prequel series, which has helped distract him. "The greatest thing about work is cancer doesn't exist between action and cut," he said. ‌ While James has been acting on screen in film and TV shows since the early 1990s, he is still best known to many as the titular Dawson Leery of iconic teen drama Dawson's Creek. The show also launched the careers of Oscar nominee Michelle Williams, Batman actress Katie Holmes, and Canadian star Joshua Jackson. Colorectal cancer is a term for bowel cancer - which can form and grow in the large bowel, which includes the colon and rectum. The disease is one of the most common types of cancer in the UK, but can be detected through bowel cancer screening and, if caught early, is one of the easiest forms of cancer to treat. ‌ The NHS records symptoms to watch out for are changes in your poo, such as having softer poo, diarrhoea or constipation that is not usual for you, blood in your poo which could look red or black, a sensation of needing to poo even if you've just been to the toilet - and other symptoms including tummy pain, bloating and unexpected weight loss.
