Watch: Detroit Lions Podcast rookie minicamp observations and reaction
Friday's rookie minicamp was the first opportunity to see the Detroit Lions draft class and undrafted free agents put on the Honolulu Blue and take part in a practice. I was there for the sun-soaked morning practice and the player press conferences afterward.
As a companion to the notebook published on Friday, I also recorded a video breakdown of what I saw and heard in Allen Park. Via the Detroit Lions Podcast, the video includes my thoughts on the draft class, some undrafted rookies who captured attention, and a couple of prominent veteran tryouts.
As always, the Detroit Lions Podcast is available in an audio-only format via your favorite podcast provider.

Rookie Isaac TeSlaa Stands Out in Lions Camp
Detroit Lions general manager Brad Holmes had high praise for rookie wide receiver Isaac TeSlaa, who was an underrated prospect coming out of college; the Lions drafted him in the third round of the 2025 NFL Draft. But TeSlaa has made his presence known throughout the Lions' offseason program and into the preseason. Appearing on the Up and Adams Show with Kay Adams, Holmes said TeSlaa's grittiness and love for the team make him a perfect fit for the Lions' culture.

Isaac TeSlaa stuns D.J. Reed with highlight catch at Detroit Lions practice
Isaac TeSlaa stuns D.J. Reed with highlight catch at Detroit Lions practice originally appeared on The Sporting News Detroit Lions rookie wide receiver Isaac TeSlaa continues to turn heads this offseason. TeSlaa has routinely been a standout during training camp, and that has not changed in the Lions' three preseason contests, each of which have seen the Arkansas product shine. The Michigan native continued his red-hot summer at practice on Tuesday, when he reeled-in the "catch of the day" with cornerback D.J. Reed in coverage, leaving the veteran stunned. "Catch of the day: Rookie wide receiver Isaac TeSlaa had a one-on-one rep with veteran cornerback D.J. Reed early in practice and TeSlaa made a terrific over the shoulder catch right at the pylon of the end zone with Reed in pretty good coverage," Tim Twentyman of wrote. "Even Reed couldn't believe the catch as he looked over at TeSlaa and asked him if he really caught it." It would appear that this is the catch. TeSlaa was one of the most surprising selections in the 2025 NFL draft, as not only was he not on anyone's radar in the third round, the Lions traded up to get him. So far, it looks like general manager Brad Holmes knew exactly what he was doing. TeSlaa had two catches for 46 yards in the Hall of Fame Game and has scored touchdowns in each of the last two exhibition contests. "He's playing wide receiver like how we like our guys to play," Holmes said to Kay Adams on the Up & Adams Show onMonday. "He's blocking, he's training in the run game. I know when you hear blocking in the run game from a wide receiver, it's like, 'Well, you've got to catch the football,' but that just shows a lot about the competitiveness and the desire of just a football player in general." "He started to catch up and he's started to understand the physicality it takes," Jared Goff said of TeSlaa. "He certainly has a chance to have a role in our offense and has done a great job getting better every day." With TeSlaa ascending and Tim Patrick having a quiet camp overall that has also seen him deal with injury, there is a thought that the rookie could steal some snaps away from the veteran sooner rather than later. At the very least, we should see TeSlaa getting some playing time early on in the season, and not just on special teams. ‘Chomping at the bit.' Dolphins defensive coordinator expresses faith in corners
Prior to signing his big extension, Zach Sieler was shown highlights from his first season. It likely was humbling for the Miami Dolphins defensive tackle, a way to show not just him but the entire team the power of hard work. Dolphins defensive coordinator Anthony Weaver believes the cornerbacks should take the same approach. 'This is a credit to this guy just being relentless and putting in work in and never not believing in themselves which is the exact same thing as our corners should feel like,' Weaver said Tuesday. 'They should always believe in themselves in their ability.' It's no secret that the world believe the Dolphins have a bit of a hole at outside cornerback. And despite a game-clinching interception by rookie corner Ethan Robinson to beat the Detroit Lions 24-17, the position — outside of likely starter Storm Duck — has yet to be addressed. Weaver, however, appears to like what he has seen. 'We have a bunch of guys who are chomping at the bit to both make this team and then go out there and show what they're made of,' Weaver said, later adding that 'we have the utmost confidence in those guys to go out there and do their jobs because we see it repeatedly through daily action.' Weaver then emphasized something that he has repeated since the beginning of training camp: the importance of the pass rush, as evinced by the recent signing of four-time Pro Bowler Matthew Judon. The former defensive end believes an elite pass rush can help alleviate the lack of experience on the back end. 'They also have to understand they're not alone,' Weaver continued. He then referenced the 2011 Super Bowl-winning New York Giants, which featured a trio of elite pass rushers including Jason Pierre-Paul, Justin Tuck and Osi Umenyiora. 'We got guys up front who are going to do work. They're going to create problems with the quarterbacks that's going to make it hard to get balls to thosee receivers.' Weaver then listed who has stood out. Storm Duck? 'I think he has been consitent throughout camp.' Ethan Bonner? 'Hate to see that he got hurt. He'll be back but you saw how he's been playing.' Cam Smith? 'I think you saw some physicality, particularly the play he made on third-and-1 on the stop' against the Lions. Jack Jones? 'Jack to me is a juice guy. He's the guy that feeds and plays well off of energy. So when he makes the play, your defense is going to feed off that. The opponents are going to here it. The one thing I love about Jack is some of the things we're asking him to do are kind of foreign to him or really just aren't in his wheelhouse.' Jason Marshall Jr. 'Bigger-body corner. You look at him sometimes you think 'Oh man, this guy could be a linebacker, but he has the movement skills of a DB. I think Jason's skill set gives you an opportunity not only to play him outside but inside as well. Overall, he continued, 'so much about that position is confidence and it's important for them to to have eshort memories and just go out there and apply their tehcnique and fundamentals,' Weaver said. 'I love that group. I love the way that group is competing, thee way they're coming together and they're operating as a whole.'
