Teen run over by truck while sunbathing on North Carolina beach
Oak Island Public Safety officials were dispatched to a public beach on Monday just after 2 p.m. while responding to reports of a pedestrian who was struck by a vehicle driving on the beach, according to a press release.
Upon arrival, authorities located the victim, who was evaluated on-scene for 'possible non-life-threatening injuries' after the vehicle apparently ran over her legs.
Authorities transported the victim to a nearby hospital 'out of caution,' city officials said in the press release.
'The vehicle, a 2020 model GMC pickup truck, belongs to TI Coastal Services, a private contractor conducting Beach Survey work for engineering firm Moffatt & Nichol, in preparation for the upcoming 2025 / 26 Beach Nourishment Project,' Oak Island said in the press release. 'The Survey began on July 7 and is intended to last two weeks.'

The project, which includes both land and sea surveying, was scheduled to take place between June 30 and July 7.
The city quashed false reports that the town's Beach Safety Unit caused the accident, saying that information spread on social media and other platforms is 'FALSE and should NOT be shared if viewed online.'
'Claims such as this can quickly cause the spread of misinformation, and lead to a dangerous lack of trust in first responders,' the city said. 'As with any claim of such a serious nature, it is always important to remember to evaluate the source of the information before sharing or forming opinions.'

Authorities investigating if gunman in NYC office shooting legally purchased rifle from boss
The New York City Police Department continues to work with investigators across the country to learn more about the gunman in Monday's deadly Midtown office shooting. On Thursday, Las Vegas authorities were investigating if shooter Shane Tamura's boss, identified only as "Rick," broke the law. The NYPD says Rick legally purchased the rifle used in the Park Avenue attack and then sold it to Tamura, who had a concealed carry permit, for $1,400. The question is, was that sale legal? In order for the sale to be legal under Nevada law, Rick would have had to go to a gun store that is considered a federal firearms licensee. While there, Rick and Tamura would have had to fill out a document called an ATF Form 4473, which records the transaction. CBS News New York has reached out to the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives to find out if Rick filed that form. Authorities have said Rick is cooperating with police, and he has not been charged at this time. CBS News New York spoke to Rick on Wednesday, and he had no comment. Las Vegas defense attorney Josh Tomsheck is an expert on Second Amendment issues. "I think it's very unlikely that, if he did the transfer at a licensed federal firearms licensee, he is probably not exposed to any criminal liability. That's the reality," Tomsheck said. But he says under federal law, there is an exception. "If seller is selling to someone he knows to be a habitual drug user, he can't do that. If he thinks he's got a documented mental health history, he can't sell it to him in that circumstance. He's duty-bound to only sell to someone who he believes can legally purchase the firearm," Tomsheck said. Meanwhile, at last check, police were waiting on a warrant to search the gunman's locker at the Horseshoe Casino, where he worked.

Antipsychotic meds, suicide note found in NYC mass shooter's apartment
NEW YORK (WPIX) — Antipsychotic medication and a suicide note to his parents were found in the apartment of the gunman who killed multiple people in a mass shooting in Manhattan earlier this week. New York Police Department (NYPD) detectives searched Shane Tamura's studio apartment in Las Vegas and found several medications, 100 9mm rounds, a tripod for the rifle used in the shooting, and an empty hand box for the revolver, police said Wednesday. Several prescription bottles for antipsychotic, antiepileptic, and anti-inflammatory drugs were also recovered, according to an NYPD spokesperson. NYC mass shooter names CTE as motivation: Here's what that is Tamura, 27, also left behind a suicide note to his parents, saying in part, 'I love you, mama. I'm sorry.' In the suicide notes found at the scene, Tamura mentioned a man named Rick, who was the suspect's supervisor at the Horseshoe Las Vegas, where he worked as a security officer, police said. 'I'm sorry, Rick,' the note found in the shooter's wallet said. Rick sold Tamura the AR-15 assault rifle used in the mass shooting for $1,400, as well as the BMW the gunman drove across the country from Nevada to New York City, police said. Rick, whose last name is being withheld, has not been charged with any crimes. Four people were shot and killed when Tamura opened fire at around 7 p.m. Monday in the lobby and the 33rd floor of the Park Avenue skyscraper that houses the offices of the NFL, Blackstone and Rudin Management, authorities said. NYPD officer Didarul Islam, Blackstone executive Wesley LePatner, security guard Aland Etienne, and Julia Hyman were killed in the incident. NFL employee Craig Clementi was also injured in the shooting, Commissioner Roger Goodell said. Tamura, a former high school football player from Las Vegas, shot himself in the chest and died at the scene, police said. Authorities said Tamura left behind three suicide notes blaming the NFL for his brain injury. The three-page handwritten suicide note was found folded inside the shooter's wallet and written on preprinted planner-style paper, including a page labeled 'My Daily Affirmations' and another with 'Plan, Pause, Reflect, and Flourish' printed in the center, police said.

New York Gunman Bought Rifle Used in Midtown Attack From His Boss
The gunman accused of killing four people in a Midtown Manhattan skyscraper bought the AR-15-style rifle used in the attack from his boss at a Las Vegas casino. Police have identified 27-year-old Shane Tamura as the gunman in Monday's attack. Continuing investigations in Nevada have revealed that Tamura's supervisor at the Horseshoe Las Vegas casino, Rick, sold him the weapon used in the shooting, according to a New York Police Department official. Tamura bought the entire rifle fully assembled from his boss for $1,400, the official said. Police didn't release the supervisor's last name.
