Pahalgam terror attack: List of massacres in Jammu and Kashmir since 1997
Unidentified gunmen opened fire on a group of tourists in Jammu and Kashmir's Pahalgam area of Anantnag district on Tuesday. Officials told news agency PTI that at least 20 were injured and some are feared dead, but the state government has not issued an official statement on casualties.
Anti-terror operations were launched in response to the attack, and Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha said that the perpetrators would pay a heavy price for the attack.
Union home minister Amit Shah condemned the attack and reached Srinagar to hold a high-level security review meeting. Prime Minister Narendra Modi directed Shah to take all necessary measures.
The attack brings back the focus on massacres that took place across the union territory since 1990.

May 14, 2002: Kaluchak military station was attacked by three armed terrorists from Pakistan. They first attacked a Himachal Road Transport Corporation bus on the Jammu-Pathankot highway and killed seven passengers before storming the station, where they killed 23 persons, including 10 children, and five army soldiers.
July 30, August 6, 2002: Eleven people were killed and 30 injured in two terror attacks by terrorists from Lashkar-e-Taiba on Nunwan base camp at Pahalgam during the Amarnath pilgrimage.
March 23, 2003: Killing of 24 Kashmir Pandits at Nadimarg Village in Pulwama
July 10, 2017: On the first Monday of the month of Shraavana, eight pilgrims en route to Amarnath in Kashmir were killed in a terror attack in Anantnag.
January 1, 2023: Seven civilians of the Hindu community, two of them minors killed in a firing and an IED blast triggered by two armed terrorists at village Dhangri in Rajouri district.
June 9, 2024: Armed terrorists attacked a pilgrims' bus in Reasi that left nine pilgrims dead and 42 others injured. The bus was returning from the Shiv Khori shrine to Katra.

H-1B visa registrations drop 27% due to fee hike and policy changes
The number of H-1B visa cap registrations for FY 2026 has declined significantly, according to new data released by the US Citizenship and Immigration Services ( USCIS ). The USCIS attributed the lower registration numbers to recent policy enforcement, changes in the registration process, and increased costs. The agency has taken action against fraud, particularly targeting duplicate entries. 'Based on evidence from the FY 2023 and FY 2024 H-1B cap seasons, we undertook extensive fraud investigations, denied and revoked petitions accordingly, and continue to make law enforcement referrals for criminal prosecution,' USCIS said in an official statement. Air India plane crash: DNA matching underway, 6 bodies returned to families
As the country mourns the loss of lives in the devastating crash of an Air India Boeing 787 shortly after takeoff from Ahmedabad's Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport, authorities have intensified efforts to identify the victims through DNA sampling. As rescue and recovery operations continue at the crash site, the focus is also on the process of DNA identification, a critical step in bringing closure to grieving families. Forensic teams are working around the clock to collect DNA samples from the remains recovered from the charred wreckage. According to PTI, Relatives of the deceased have been arriving at local hospitals and morgues, many of them asking to provide saliva or blood samples to assist with the matching process. Authorities are prioritising cases where preliminary identifications have been made through personal belongings or documentation, to expedite the DNA matching. Most of the bodies were charred beyond recognition, and DNA testing was being conducted to identify the victims. More bodies are expected to be found in the search at the crash site. There was no information on whether the black boxes — the flight data and cockpit voice recorders — had been recovered. One family member, waiting outside the forensic unit, said: 'We came all the way from Surat as soon as we heard the news. We just want to take him home.'
