Hollyoaks Clare's downfall 'confirmed' as axed character returns for revenge
Hollyoaks' Tom Cunningham actor Ellis Hollins told The Mirror all about his return to the Channel 4 soap, and a possible showdown with enemy Clare Devine after years apart
There could be the showdown of all showdowns on Hollyoaks very soon, with a huge return possibly leading to revenge.
Actor Ellis Hollins spoke to The Mirror about his big comeback just months after his axe from the role of Tom Cunningham. Fans were gutted when Tom left the show after more than two decades.
Just recently we saw the return of villain and show favourite Clare Devine, played by actress Gemma Bissix. Clare and Tom had quite the history, and now that might be revisited in dramatic upcoming episodes.
Speaking exclusively to The Mirror at the British Soap Awards, Tom actor Ellis confirmed his return and confirmed there'd be scenes ahead of Tom's nemesis Clare. Clare terrorised Tom as a child, but now Tom may get his vengeance.
Ellis told us: "It's very strange to come back at the same time as Clare. It's almost like they're gonna cross paths... but we'll see what happens."
The actor vowed that if a showdown was to happen, Tom would be prepared this time now that he's grown up. But he also teased a twist fans might not expect.
Ellis explained to us: "He was vulnerable and defenceless, and there was only so much he could do as a child. So it's gonna be very interesting now that Tom is grown up, and he can fend for himself if needs be.
"She was the muscle back then so it's gonna be very interesting to see what storylines will come up with that and what the writers can invent for the two characters." On the past coming back to haunt them both, he went on: "I think there's a lot there they can work with. There's a lot of history."
But Ellis wondered whether in a major twist, Tom and Clare could be on the same side. He shared: "I had wondered if we'd form a partnership, but I'm not too optimistic about something like that happening. We'll see what goes on down the line and whether our characters diverge, or if they'll hate each other even more."
Asked if a final showdown could be on the way, he revealed: "To really have that second chance for Tom to have redemption against Clare is important for a lot of people, as well as for Tom himself. It's gonna be so interesting to see whether Tom can get his revenge on Clare and whether he bides his time, and how orchestrated it will be."
It doesn't seem as though we will find out what Tom has been up to since he left the village months ago as part of the show changes. He told us: "It's interesting, I'd love to answer that but as far as I'm aware I don't know. It's not something that has been communicated about a flashback, as much as it would be very interesting to see what Tom has been up to."
On what fans can expect from the soap's 30th anniversary later this year, he spilled: "When I got the call I was assuming it was something to do with the 30th, but it's still quite premature. So I'm hoping there's gonna be something related to it but maybe on the sidelines, like reacting to certain people and not being in a crash!"
Hollyoaks is available to stream on Channel 4's streaming service now, while it also airs Mondays to Wednesdays on E4 at 7PM. * Follow Mirror Celebs and TV on TikTok, Snapchat, Instagram, Twitter, Facebook, YouTube and Threads.

Amy Childs' concerned pals work out true motive for calling off wedding
TOWIE star Amy Childs' friends are worried about her relationship after she postponed her wedding to fiancé Billy Delbosq for the second time Amy Childs has left friends and fans worried after calling off her wedding to fiancé Billy Delbosq for the second time, sparking rumours of relationship troubles among those who are close to her. The former beautician, who shot to fame on The Only Way Is Essex nearly 15 years ago, became a household name thanks to her larger-than-life personality — and introducing the public to the concept of 'vajazzling'. After a romantic past full of ups and downs, Amy, 34, seemed to have finally found lasting love with Billy, a fellow reality star who once appeared on Channel 4 's First Dates. The couple got engaged in 2023 after welcoming twins Billy River and Amelia Mae. But last month she postponed their wedding again, after already delaying it last year over doubts about whether Billy was truly ready to tie the knot. This latest cancellation has caused speculation that not all is well in their relationship. Friends close to the couple have voiced their fears, with one source telling the Daily Mail: "Billy has always been a player. He's one of the biggest players in Essex…now there are fears that all is not well, that something could have happened between them." Fuel was added to the fire when Amy was spotted in Brentwood looking visibly thinner and not wearing her engagement ring. However, another source close to the couple insisted the pair are still going strong, and suggested she only removed the ring to work out. In the paparazzi snaps that sparked concern, she was indeed dressed in gym gear. However, Amy and Billy were also seen at Stansted Airport on Thursday while en route to Spain for TOWIE filming, looking "preoccupied and unsmiling". One pal admitted: "They usually seem so happy together. This time they looked really down in the dumps, neither particularly looked like they wanted to be there." Behind the scenes, Amy has been privately coping with a family crisis. She recently told The Mirror that her mum Julie, who has also made appearances on TOWIE, suffered from a heart attack in April and had to be rushed to hospital for emergency surgery. She added: "It has been intensely stressful. None of us was expecting Mum to have a heart attack – it turned our world upside down. "It was so frightening. She had a stent put in and was in hospital for six days. She's now home but she's being monitored daily and is on a lot of medication. It's so tough for her – she sometimes struggles to walk upstairs." Amy and Billy made the difficult decision to postpone their September wedding at Cliveden House in Berkshire. The TOWIE star explained: "It's upsetting, but I know we've made the right decision. Right now, we're focused on looking after Mum." In response to the online abuse over her weight loss, Amy hit back, saying: "People don't know what is going on behind closed doors…To be honest I do feel better when I'm a bit heavier than I am at the moment. There's so much going on – it's the result of pure stress." Despite facing these heart breaking family challenges, Amy is still hopeful that her and Billy will be able to get married abroad next year, and have planned for their kids to play a special role in the wedding. She concluded: "We just want it to be amazing, not rushed."

Patsy Palmer leaves British Soap Awards co-stars aghast with Vagina monologue
EastEnders star Patsy Palmer stunned her British Soap Awards co-stars with her very crude speech while on stage as host Jane McDonald was left open mouthed Patsy Palmer had her soap colleagues' jaws on the floor with her crude speech on stage at the British Soap Awards. The EastEnders star picked up the Best Comedy Performance for her role as loudmouth Bianca Butcher. She made an epic comeback to the BBC soap in February as part of the 40th anniversary celebrations. However, Patsy's speech took an unexpected turn when she headed up on stage to collect her award. The glitzy do, which took place over the weekend but aired on TV last night, was hosted by Jane McDonald. She was so stunned by Patsy that she turned to face the camera with an open mouth. The TV favourite kicked off her cheeky speech: "Knock knock. Listen I haven't prepared a speech because I thought Jack [P. Shepherd] was going to win." She continued: "To be able to be funny and all of what we've seen tonight, is nothing short of a miracle really. I want to thank Shona McGarty for leaving, because if she hadn't have left, I wouldn't have come back." Patsy's speech soon took a turn as she admitted: "I wasn't expecting that and I'm so glad I did because I stayed for the 40th and that was really where we celebrated the woman's vagina. The actress then declared: "I think vagina's have always been funny." She was met with both shock and laughter from the audience as she also burst out laughing. However, Michelle Collins, who plays Cindy Beale, looked mortified while Ian Beale actor Adam Woodyatt appeared gobsmacked at Patsy's remark. The reference was, of course, to Sonia Fowler giving birth during the live 40th anniversary episode. Carrying on her speech, Patsy said: "All jokes aside, coming back to EastEnders after quite some time has been the most amazing experience for me. "I'm beyond grateful, I'm not going to cry because it's a comedy award, but you have no idea what a gift it has been for me to come back." When she left the stage, a baffled host Jane said: "I don't know quite what to say. How many times can you say vagina in one speech." Viewers also joked about the reason the award ceremony is not broadcast live as one said: "I mean perhaps they are given how many times Patsy Palmer said the word vagina in her acceptance speech!' Another added: 'I cannot wait to see what parts of Patsy Palmer's vagina tangent makes the tv broadcast.' Someone else commented: 'Happy Patsy Palmer Vagina Speech Day to all who celebrate.' It wasn't the first time Patsy left viewers stunned with her speeches, as some Celebrity Big Brother viewers felt awkward during her exit chat. She didn't seem impressed when quizzed on her clash with Mickey Rourke in the house before he was booted out for his shocking behaviour. Host Will said: "There were a few tricky moments that you had to deal with in there, people complaining about broccoli - that was one, but you seemed to move past that?" Patsy shook her head as she refused to say anything. Will asked: "You don't want to talk about the broccoli?" While Patsy remained silent, AJ added: "Did it upset you that Mickey complained to your face about the food?" She still didn't seem impressed as she responded: "Not really that...," before the hosts agreed to move on from Mickey chat. Hitting back at viewers, Patsy wrote on social media: "There's nothing awkward about silence. It says it all!"

Beth to Fubar: the seven best shows to stream this week
This is the first original drama produced for the new Channel 4 digital platform, which will be on YouTube, alongside a broadcast on Channel 4. It packs plenty of intrigue into 45 minutes. Written by Uzo Oleh, Beth stars Nicholas Pinnock and Abbey Lee as Joe and Molly, an interracial couple longing for a child as they struggle with IVF and ponder adoption ('I want our kid to look like both of us'). Eventually, an apparent miracle happens and Imogen is born. But soon, the circumstances around her conception – and Abbey's relationship with her doctor – become mysterious. Pinnock and Lee do a sensitive job of rendering the retreating intimacies of their collapsing relationship. Channel 4, from Monday 9 June This espionage comedy drama has its cake and eats it, with daft genre tropes and knowing humour. The key to its success is Arnold Schwarzenegger as agent Luke Brunner, happily poking fun at his own legend. When we rejoin Luke's team, they're in witness protection – and a shocking early death makes the threats they face clear. But they're going up the wall, and Luke's agent daughter Emma (Monica Barbaro) is cohabiting with both an ex and her new squeeze. Fortunately, they soon have a new adversary to distract them in the shape of terrifying nihilist Dante. Plus, Carrie-Anne Moss later joins as Luke's old flame. Netflix, from Thursday 12 June In June 1994, horror was visited upon the remote tranquility of Orkney when Bangladeshi waiter Shamsuddin Mahmood was shot dead by a masked man while serving a table in the island's only curry house. This gloomy but gripping documentary explores what followed: a manhunt that would last for a remarkable 14 years (and the extraordinary events that unfolded at the trial of suspect Michael Ross); multiple issues surrounding the police's handling of the murder; racism; and the lingering impact of trauma on an isolated community. Prime Video, from Sunday 8 June Alex Cooper's Call Her Daddy podcast has become massive, second only to Joe Rogan's manosphere monster but attracting a very different audience. It's a candid exploration of sex and relationships with a strong emphasis on female empowerment. This two-part documentary expands Cooper's empire by offering a glimpse of the woman behind the mic. Like the podcast, it's rarely subtle and can feel a little stage-managed. But Cooper is a shrewd operator and this is another smartly placed building block in a growing media brand. Disney+, from Tuesday 10 June This documentary exploring the catastrophe that unfolded at Travis Scott's 2021 concert in Houston is part of the same strand as Netflix's Woodstock 99 series and covers similar ground in its depiction of systemic failure leading to tragedy. One key difference is that concertgoers now have mobile phones – and the frequently horrifying footage takes viewers right into the heart of the crush that claimed 10 lives. The story of the aftermath is bleak, too: as survivors tried to deal with the shock while coaxing some accountability from the people who failed them. Netflix, from Tuesday 10 June 'There was no way of knowing when Titan was going to fail,' says one maritime expert in this documentary, 'but it was a mathematical certainty that it would.' What drove OceanGate CEO Stockton Rush to gamble with the lives of four people (not to mention his own) in 2023? The implosion of the Titan submersible was briefly a worldwide obsession as the vessel plunged to explore the ruins of the Titanic. The story is an insight into a certain kind of entrepreneurial mindset – one that finds death easier to accept than the possibility of failure. Netflix, from Wednesday 11 June Located on the cusp of Italy and Austria, the Alpine city of Bolzano is often considered a bridge between northern and southern Europe. Its political and cultural significance is explored in this gritty crime drama. A serial killer is on the loose but he seems to be exclusively targeting German speakers. Does discerning his political motive offer a route to stopping him? Inevitably, a mismatched pair of law enforcement officers (inspector Paolo Costa and prosecutor Eva Kofler) are on the case, but can they put their personal differences aside?Channel 4, from Friday 13 June
