EastEnders' Shane Ritchie teases return of Spencer Moon

The 61-year-old opened up about new executive producer Ben Wadey's plans after the soap scooped eight gongs at the British Soap Awards. Speaking to The Mirror, Shane, who has played Alfie Moon for more than 20 years, spoke of how he'd like a fellow Moon to return too. Christopher Parker, who played Alfie's younger brother Spencer, arrived on the Square alongside Alfie and their grandmother Nana Moon in 2002. Spencer quickly became a fan favourite, which led Christopher to take part in the first series of Strictly Come Dancing in 2004 – coming in second place. After Christopher left the soap in 2005, he quit acting and re-trained to become a lawyer. Most popular soap operas in the UK Shane told The Mirror: "I would like him to come back. "One of my sons keeps in touch with Christopher [Parker], but he's a lawyer now. "He flies between LA and London. I would love to think that one day they might bring back Spencer, but so much is going on at the moment. 'Alfie could probably do without that." It's not the first time Christopher's name has been mentioned surrounding the soap this year – after Spencer's ex-partner Vicki Fowler returned in February. Recommended reading: It was revealed that Vicki had an affair with Spencer's friend Ross, despite initially claiming Spencer had cheated on her, however, Alfie was quick to correct this after a phone call with Spencer. The tease of Spencer's comeback comes as it was revealed that Zoe Slater, played by Michelle Ryan, will also returning to the soap later this year as part of producer Ben Wadey's plans. Last year Alfie and Spencer's cousin Jake Moon, played by Joel Beckett, also made a brief appearance on the soap, squashing rumours that he had been killed off in 2006.

The actor, who played the troubled Mitchell for five years, left Albert Square last year after Ben was extradited to the US for credit card fraud. The Sun has revealed Max could be back on screen sooner than fans think, with bosses lining him up for a guest stint - and a possible full-time comeback on the cards. A source said that the soap's new producer Ben Wadey had a "list of characters he wanted to bring back" after taking over from Chris Clenshaw, with Ben Mitchell being one of them. But fans think the next actor to play Ben should be Daniel Delaney, the actor who portrayed a younger version of Phil in two spin off episodes. Taking to Reddit, one fan wrote: "Not only is he the spitting image of Steve McFadden but he's also a fantastic young actor too. "It wouldn't be the first time someone has played two characters in the same show either." Daniel Delaney played a younger Phil Mitchell in the flashback episodes during Phil's psychosis storyline. The actor was praised for both his resemblance to Steve McFadden and his powerful performance. The episode even won the award for Best Single Episode at this year's British Soap Awards. Coronation Street and Emmerdale humiliated at British Soap Awards as rival soap wins EIGHT gongs EastEnders managed to secure a total of eight wins in its 40th anniversary year. Meanwhile, addressing his EastEnders exit last year, Max Bowden admitted he was suffering from burnout and knew it was time to step away. 'The important thing was my time was ready. I was very tired, and like I said, I wasn't me, I wasn't,' he said candidly. 'The Max sat in front of you today was kind of a ghost - and they recognised that. I recognised that.'
