The Carrier Battle Group, backed by stealth frigates and underwater platforms, was among India's largest non-exercise maritime deployments in recent years. Pawar, who was in the district to review development projects, also attended an NCP induction programme following which he dined at the residence of NCP cooperative leader Sudhir Kothari. When he was leaving, a party worker called out to him saying: 'Dada, I love you!" to which he had the next best response (with a smile on his face): 'I love you too!" Earlier, talking to reporters during the visit, Pawar downplayed the meeting between MNS president Raj Thackeray and Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, saying maintaining communication is a tradition in the state. The meeting came after the first joint contest by the Uddhav Thackeray-led Shiv Sena (UBT) and Raj Thackeray's MNS in the BEST Employees' Co-operative Credit Society elections ended in a humiliating defeat on Wednesday (August 20).
