Esapa Osong strengthens the Steelmen ahead of Saturday's cup clash with St Johnstone
Motherwell have strengthened their squad with the arrival of Nottingham Forest forward Esapa Osong on loan.

As the Steelmen begin life without Lennon Miller, a small portion of the teenager's near-£5m fee will go towards bringing the Englishman to ML1 on a season-long deal.

Boss Jens Berthel Askou is struggling for strikers at the moment with Eseosa Sule ruled out for seven months and Zach Robinson still sidelined.

So Osong is a very welcome addition to the squad ahead of tomorrow's Premier Sports Cup last 16 clash at St Johnstone, with experience on loan at Rotherham United and Cambridge United in the EFL last season.
The 20-year-old said: 'This is an incredible opportunity for me.
'I'm eager to demonstrate my abilities. I'm thankful for the chance to join this club, compete in a challenging league, and contribute to the team's success.
'The manager has outlined his expectations, and now it's my responsibility to deliver. I've heard that a large crowd will be traveling to the game tomorrow, and I can't wait to experience the atmosphere in the stadium.'
Askou is delighted to get a player who has netted 25 goals in 41 games for Forest's Under 18 side, and 11 goals for the Under 21s.

He said: 'Esapa is a young and highly talented forward that Nick Daws has been tracking for some time.
'Powerful and athletic, he has consistently impressed at academy level with his productivity and eye-catching performances.
'With his combination of speed, strength, and technical ability, Esapa has the potential to be a real challenge for any defender in the league. We're excited to welcome him on board and look forward to helping him unlock the full potential he possesses.'

Man Utd accept Roma's transfer offer for 'bomb squad' member Jadon Sancho

Manchester United have accepted Roma's transfer offer for their 'bomb squad' member Jadon Sancho, according to reports. The two clubs have reached an agreement on a deal worth €19m (£16.4m) plus €5m (£4.3m) in add-ons, totalling £20.7m, Sky in Italy have reported. It's unclear if the move will get over the line, though, with Serie A side Roma having been unable to agree personal terms with Sancho so far. Sancho is said to have turned down Roma on Monday but the Italian club are hoping to change his mind before the summer transfer window closes. United are attempting to convince Sancho into joining Roma too – having deemed him surplus to requirements at Old Trafford. Metro's new weekly football newsletter: In The Mixer. Exclusive analysis, FPL tips and transfer talk sent straight to your inbox every Friday – sign up, it's an open goal. Sancho is a member of Ruben Amorim's 'bomb squad' and United are keen to offload him so they can focus on bringing new players to the club. Leon Bailey, who has just joined Roma on loan from Aston Villa, is a friend of Sancho and is also trying to convince the winger to join him in Rome. In football, the term 'bomb squad' describes a group of players excluded from the first team, often made to train apart from the main squad or with youth and development sides. Clubs frequently use this tactic to apply pressure on unwanted players to secure moves elsewhere. Sancho has scored 12 goals and provided six assists across 83 games for United since he joined the club in a £73m deal from Borussia Dortmund. The Englishman has been loaned back to Dortmund and has also spent time on loan at Chelsea since he moved to United four years ago. The 25-year-old could now be heading to Roma if the club can agree personal terms with the player but it's said they 'won't be waiting for long' for him to make a final decision. Sancho has already snubbed a move to Turkish side Besiktas, rejecting the chance to work with United legend Ole Gunnar Solskjaer. Meanwhile, Roma are interested in a deal to bring in a second member of United's 'bomb squad', Tyrell Malacia, according to The Athletic. United want to sell Malacia permanently but it's said that a loan 'cannot be ruled out' for the left-back. More Trending Malacia has attracted interest from Porto too – as United look to offload the 26-year-old after recruiting Diego Leon this summer. The other two players in United's 'bomb squad' are Alejandro Garnacho and Antony. Garnacho looks like he could be on his way to Chelsea while Antony has been linked with a permanent move to Real Betis after his loan spell at the Spanish club last season. Marcus Rashford was in United's 'bomb squad' before he was loaned to Barcelona, with a buy option included in the deal. Hearts are today reeling from another injury blow after midfielder Finlay Pollock pulled up with a hamstring problem in training. Concerns are that he has suffered a recurrence of the muscle tear which required surgery earlier this year. He has been sent for a scan, the results of which should come later this week. Riccarton medical staff are hoping the outcome is not as bad as first thought, with Pollock working his way back to full fitness following the initial operation in April. The injury arose whilst the player was on loan at Raith Rovers and he did rehabilitation work over the summer with the intention of challenging for first-team football under new Hearts head coach Derek McInnes. Advertisement Hide Ad Advertisement Hide Ad For now, that process is likely to be paused to allow 21-year-old Pollock time to recover from this latest setback. He has been beset by injury problems in recent years, including a broken foot and patellar tendon issues. McInnes explained to the Edinburgh News how the latest issue is being dealt with. "We had a bit of a setback with Finlay and his hamstring injury. We are getting him scanned again but it doesn't look great,' he admitted. 'It looks like it may be a recurrence, although until we know for certain we will try to remain positive. He wasn't back in full training yet but it was his first day integrating with the squad and doing part of the training. Unfortunately for us and Finlay, this happened. Hopefully he has been lucky but we just need to wait and see.' The news follows a groin injury to goalkeeper Ryan Fulton, who joins fellow keeper Craig Gordon on the sidelines. Defender Christian Borchgrevink, winger Kenneth Vargas and centre-back Jamie McCart are also sidelined at the moment. 'Ryan got injured on Friday and is out for a period of time,' said McInnes. 'He's got a tear in his groin, we've had him scanned and the outcome isn't good, to be honest. He's going to be out for probably three to four months.' SPFL Premiership fixture this weekend as Hearts look to get back to winning There is more positive news surrounding defenders Craig Halkett and Harry Milne, plus midfielder Oisin McEntee. All three were substituted with various issues during Saturday's Premier Sports Cup tie at St Mirren, which Hearts lost 5-4 on penalties after a 1-1 draw. Advertisement Hide Ad Advertisement Hide Ad McInnes confirmed that Halkett is okay despite needing stitches in a head wound. He appeared to take a boot in the temple from St Mirren's Killian Phillips whilst attacking a free-kick inside the hosts' penalty area, but played on sporting a bandage. Milne and McEntee were withdrawn because of cramp but all three are expected to be involved in Saturday's Premiership match against Motherwell at Tynecastle Park. "Milne and McEntee were just cramping issues so they are fine. Halks is fine as well,' confirmed McInnes. 'He had a number of stitches but he also had his foot trodden on. He is okay and he trained over the last couple of days so he is all good. We are trying to build Calem Nieuwenhof up and that will continue. Kenneth Vargas is still out with the hip issue.' Ross County's Arron Lyall spells out risks of complacency as Staggies set their sights on Premiership return

Arron Lyall insists any hint of Ross County slackness will be punished as the Staggies set out to seal the club's immediate return to the Premiership. The attacking midfielder is one of 11 new arrivals at the Dingwall club and he's relishing this fresh challenge. The 21-year-old, who had a four-month loan stint at Inverness in 2021 when he was coming through the ranks at Rangers, is delighted to have made the Highlands his base for at least two years. On Saturday afternoon, County will host Championship rivals Partick Thistle in the Premier Sports Cup, needing three points to get through as Group B winners and into the second round. They trail Thistle by two points, therefore only a victory will be enough to knock their opponents off top spot. A stunning 8-0 demolition of League Two Edinburgh City on Tuesday kept County in contention. Once the dust settles on this final tie, the attention will switch to their pursuit of the title. Lyall stressed there's no room for complacency – despite the high expectations nationally. He said: 'When you come down from the top-flight, a lot of teams are expected to go straight back up. 'However, the Championship is a very hard league. I played a lot of games in it over the past two seasons, it is tough. 'We'd like to think we're going to win the league, but we must not expect to win it. We must be focused for every single game. 'If we play to the best of our ability, then we've a really good chance, but any slackness and you will be punished. There are a lot of good teams and good players in the Championship. 'If you're not at the top of your game every game, then you can be punished.' Lyall had a ball in his year at Morton, impressing Ton boss Dougie Imrie having been on loan at Airdrieonians from Rangers from January to May 2024. He made 42 appearances for the Cappielow side and walked off with the club's young player of the year prize. That form was noticed by County manager Don Cowie, who secured his services on a two-year contract on June 21. Lyall was impressed by Cowie's early bid to sign him as he spelled out the target of getting back to the top-flight in one shot. He explained: 'I loved my time at Morton. It was great. 'I have such respect for Dougie Imrie, who was brilliant with me last year. 'The gaffer here phoned me quite early in the summer and made it clear a few times what his plans were for this season. 'He didn't mess around and told me what he wanted, and this move was a no-brainer for me.' Ronan Hale's first competitive hat-trick for County, a Jay Henderson double, a strike from Kieran Phillips and a brace from 16-year-old substitute Joe Coyle buried visitors Edinburgh City in midweek. County now know a victory against Thistle on Saturday will put them into the second round of the Premier Sports Cup. That rout came on the back of a 1-0 win at Queen of the South and Lyall explained they've been improving game by game since slipping up away to League Two Stranraer in their first tie in their section. He said: 'It was good to put on such a good performance on Tuesday, especially in our first home game. 'The Stranraer game especially wasn't great when we drew the game after being 1-0 up and then we lost on penalties. 'We expect better from ourselves, even if it is to grind out a 1-0 win. In the Championship, we might need to do that a few times. 'But Tuesday was more of a show from us. To score eight goals was brilliant. 'I was buzzing for young Joe Coyle to get two and for Ronan Hale to get his first hat-trick in Scotland.'
