Firefighters Battle Overnight Gorse Fire At Arthur's Seat In Edinburgh
Firefighters worked through the night to contain a major gorse fire that spread across a well-known hill in Edinburgh.
Emergency services were alerted to the blaze at Arthur's Seat late Sunday afternoon. According to the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service, two fire appliances remained at the scene, and crews were helping dampen down hotspots.
There have been no reports of any casualties.
Thick black smoke rose into the sky from the extinct volcano in Holyrood Park as the fire raged.

'Operations Control mobilised four fire appliances and specialist resources to a fire affecting a large area of gorse," an SFRS spokesperson said. The cause of the blaze is currently unclear.
Who Was King Arthur?
Arthur's Seat is a popular tourist attraction in the Scottish capital. From the hill's peak, visitors can enjoy panoramic views of the old city and the surrounding area, including the sea to the east.
The fire broke out as the city launched its annual Edinburgh Festival Fringe, the largest performance arts festival in the world.
Oasis fans also descended on the city over the weekend as the band performed two shows at Murrayfield Stadium. It will return to the stage for a third show on Tuesday.
A similar blaze occurred at Arthur's Seat in 2019, with firefighters working for eight hours to bring it under control.

Ibrahim Ali Khan's 'Sarzameen' co-star gets brutally honest about his acting: 'He needs to have some...'
Actor Piloo Vidyarthi has shared her disappointment after learning that a large portion of her role in 'Sarzameen', directed by Kayoze Irani, was removed from the final cut of the film. Speaking to News18, Piloo reflected on the performance of rookie actor Ibrahim Ali Khan, son of actors Saif Ali Khan and Amrita Singh. While she praised his kind nature, she noted that he still has a long way to go in terms of acting depth. 'Acting depends on your life experiences—how you have lived your life," she reflected. 'He was very nice to me, clicked photos. But I think he needs to have some depth. Star kids are also under a lot of pressure to live up to their parents. And Ibrahim comes from a family of big achievers. They have seen attention since forever. No one is bad," she said. In the same interview, Piloo revealed that nearly 80% of her scenes were left out. 'They didn't retain even 20% of what was shot,' she said. 'I was disappointed, so I'm not promoting the film. Yes, we can talk about it since it has released, but I wasn't used at all.' She also commented on the film's structure and direction. 'The makers have gone wrong somewhere because the director struggled to piece together the narrative,' she said. 'Beech mein main phas gayi hoon, na sar hai na zameen hai,' she added, using a Hindi phrase that means she felt stuck and confused by the end result. Piloo, who had prepared seriously for her part, added that it was upsetting to see her efforts reduced to almost nothing. 'These things happen in our journey, so that's okay. But yes, it's disappointing when you prepare for a role, and it's reduced to nothing.' Sarzameen has faced criticism since its release, and Piloo's comments have now added to the conversation around the film's production choices and performances.

Jennifer Aniston Says She Mourned Matthew Perry Long Before His Death: ‘Glad He's Out of Pain'
Last Updated: Jennifer Aniston opens up about Matthew Perry's addiction struggles, their Friends bond, and why she believes his passing may have ended his long fight with pain. Jennifer Aniston, best known for her role as Rachel Green on Friends, has spoken candidly about her late co-star Matthew Perry's long battle with addiction. The two starred together on the hit NBC sitcom from 1994 to 2004, during which time Aniston witnessed Perry's struggles first-hand. Jennifer Aniston Reflects on Matthew Perry's Struggles Perry, who played Chandler Bing, died in October 2023 at the age of 54 from the 'acute effects of ketamine." His decades-long fight with substance abuse began during his time on Friends, as he later detailed in his 2022 memoir Friends, Lovers, and the Big Terrible Thing. 'We did everything we could when we could," Aniston, 56, told Vanity Fair. 'But it almost felt like we'd been mourning Matthew for a long time because his battle with that disease was a really hard one for him to fight." Aniston revealed that Perry's passing brought a complex mix of emotions. 'As hard as it was for all of us and for the fans, there's a part of me that thinks this is better. I'm glad he's out of that pain," she said. The actress recalled the deep bond the Friends cast shared—Aniston, Perry, Courteney Cox, Lisa Kudrow, Matt LeBlanc, and David Schwimmer—both on and off-screen. Following his death, she wrote on Instagram about the 'insane wave of emotions" she experienced, noting she had never felt anything quite like it. In an earlier Variety interview, Aniston shared that she texted Perry on the day he died, describing him as 'happy" and 'healthy" at that time. She noted that he had quit smoking and was focused on getting in shape. Initially ruled as an accidental death, the investigation into Perry's passing was closed in January 2024 but later reopened. Authorities have since charged five people in connection with his death. First Published: August 11, 2025, 23:34 IST Disclaimer: Comments reflect users' views, not News18's.
