Stephen A. Smith would be ‘good' with never speaking to Lakers' LeBron James again
Stephen A Smith and LeBron James have some major beef against each other. Earlier this year, a series of events led to the Los Angeles Lakers superstar confronting the media personality after a game. James, who took offense to some of Smith's comments regarding his son Bronny, was visibly heated during the conversation.
It seems like the relationship between the two is now fully irreparable. In a recent appearance on Gilbert Arenas' podcast, Smith talked about their disagreement. The ESPN personality said that there was no relationship between the two anymore, and that they don't like each other at all. He also took offense to James' actions during that fiasco, including his appearance on 'The Pat McAfee Show', which ran after Smith's 'First Take'. He finished his statement by saying that if they never talk again, he'd be fine with that.
'I'm never going to denigrate any employer, any partner, or myself by getting into anything excessively, unnecessarily, when it comes to him or anybody else,' Smith said on 'Gil's Arena'. 'I'm going to do my job. I'm going to cover the game of basketball. But if I never, ever speak to him again in life, that will be OK. And I'm good with it.'
James and Smith got into it last year after Smith made comments about the Lakers star and his son, Bronny. Smith said that LeBron should step in 'as a father' and vouch for Bronny to get less playing time. That clearly rubbed James the wrong way, as the Lakers star chirped at Smith on social media before confronting the ESPN talk show host after one of their games.
While Smith seemed initially apologetic over the fiasco, he has since expressed his grievances against James over this feud. The two have gone on interviews talking about the fiasco and their dislike for each other.

Matthew Stafford returns to Rams practice Monday after weeks of uncertain injury updates
The Los Angeles Rams got some excellent news Monday. After weeks of uncertain injury updates, quarterback Matthew Stafford finally returned to practice. The Rams got out in front of the news, immediately tweeting out a picture of Stafford taking the field in a red practice jersey. The news should come as a welcome surprise for Rams fans, who have been given murky updates about the quarterback's injury status throughout training camp. Head coach Sean McVay teased Stafford's return a few times during camp, inviting plenty of questions when the quarterback failed to take the field after McVay indicated Stafford would be back. Stafford is dealing with a back injury. While his absence from training camp caused some to wonder whether Stafford's Week 1 status was in jeopardy, his return suggests he'll be fine for the start of the regular season. This story will be updated.

Panthers great Cam Newton to have jersey number retired by Auburn
Before he was a Carolina Panthers legend, Cam Newton was a University of Auburn legend. So before there was a No. 1, there was a No. 2. But that won't be the case, at least for the Tigers' football program, any longer—as the school announced on Monday that they will retire Newton's No. 2 jersey this upcoming season. Newton's lone year at Auburn is regarded as one of, if the not greatest season in college football history. That storybook 2010 campaign saw the Atlanta, Ga. native pass for 2,908 yards and 30 touchdowns and run for 1,473 yards and 20 more scores en route to a landslide victory of the Heisman Trophy and the second-ever national championship in Auburn's history. His efforts helped him become the first overall selection of the 2011 NFL draft—a pick made, of course, by the Panthers. Auburn is set to officially retire Newton's number on Oct. 11, before the Tigers take on the Georgia Bulldogs at Jordan-Hare Stadium. Newton will be the fourth Tiger to have his number retired—joining Bo Jackson, Pat Sullivan and Terry article originally appeared on Panthers Wire: Panthers great Cam Newton to have jersey number retired by Auburn

Taylor Swift has a purple countdown on her website — what fans think it means for 'The Life of a Showgirl'
The new album is set for release on Oct. 3. Oh, Taylor Swift, what are you up to now?! The pop star is teasing fans yet again with a countdown on her website — but instead of the orange-and-green color scheme she's currently using to promote her upcoming album, The Life of a Showgirl, Swift's latest countdown is purple. The countdown appeared on Aug. 18 and is slated to end at 2 p.m. ET Monday. The website features a ticking clock alongside a glittery purple background, and the whole rest of the website is currently shut down — meaning there's no way to purchase merch right now. Swift's website isn't the only place purple is being used to promote whatever this upcoming announcement is. If you type 'Taylor Swift' into Google, purple confetti rains down on the screen. A red fiery heart emoji also appears, with a purple text block that reads 'And, baby, that's show business for you.' This is the same thing that happened with Google ahead of Swift's Life of a Showgirl album announcement; however, now the orange is swapped out for purple. And, if you go on Swift's Apple Music page, the image also features glittery purple. Obviously, fans online are freaking out about what all this purple could mean. Some are certain that it's a merch drop for The Life of a Showgirl, since merch sales are currently disabled. Some are hopeful that this purple moment could signal the release of Swift's first single off the album. Others, however, have bigger aspirations: some believe that this countdown could end with the reveal that The Life of a Showgirl is actually a double album, with the second album featuring a purple color scheme. As TikToker Britton Rae said in a video about the countdown, Swift's latest antics are making her feel 'a little bit delulu,' aka 'delusional' and convinced that another album is coming — especially given the fact that Swift officially announced Showgirl at exactly 12:12 a.m. on Aug. 12. 'She was very adamant that this album only had 12 tracks on it,' the TikToker said, pointing to Swift's New Heights interview with boyfriend Travis Kelce. 'What if there's another album that also has 12 tracks on it, and that's why we've done the 12:12?' Others, however, are convinced this countdown could lead to an Eras Tour documentary. One TikToker pointed out in a video that this purple glitter 'could maybe lead to the behind-the-scenes of the Eras Tour, since The Life of a Showgirl is 'behind the curtain'.' The TikToker also noted that Swift recorded unseen footage from her final three shows of the Eras Tour in Vancouver. Whatever happens, Swift certainly has plenty of surprises in store for fans.
