Holly Willoughby's hidden struggle before diagnosis after 'writing herself off'

Daily Mirror10-06-2025
Former This Morning host Holly Willoughby spoke about her experience with dyslexia in the new documentary Jamie's Dyslexia Revolution which aired on Channel 4 last night
Presenter Holly Willoughby has opened up about feeling "different" when she was younger in a new documentary that she has described as "important". She's suggested that she ended up "writing herself off" due to a challenging experience.
Holly, 44, has previously spoken about being diagnosed with dyslexia shortly before her GCSEs. She once shared whilst hosting This Morning that she felt "shameful" about struggling with spelling for years, but also revealed on the ITV show that she's since become proud to have dyslexia.

She's now further discussed her experience with the learning difficulty at school. Holly opened up in the documentary Jamie's Dyslexia Revolution, which aired on Channel 4 on Monday, with her among the participants in the project.

The one-off special saw chef Jamie Oliver, who has spoken about his own experience with dyslexia, explore the challenges faced by pupils who have dyslexia. It also shows him campaigning for more support for those affected by dyslexia.
Like other participants, including Jamie Laing, Holly makes brief appearances in video messages shown during the documentary. She's seen talking about her experience, including sharing that she felt "different" when she was at school.
Opening up about her difficulty with spelling, she said in her first appearance: "I definitely was terrible at spelling." She continued by sharing with viewers: "I knew that because in spelling tests I'd always get really poor results."
Holly later said that she was "always" expecting feedback on her homework to include "silly mistakes" being brought to her attention. She said in the documentary: "I always knew that when I'd get my homework back, there would be red pen all over it where there would be 'silly mistakes'."
She said: "I felt like I was working really, really hard with not getting much results. So I felt different." She later added: "The school system is made for a certain type of learning and it's so hard when you don't learn like that."

Holly suggested that it had an impact on her even after she had left school. She said: "When you then write yourself off at school as being 'non-academic,' that does shape your future somewhat."
Following the broadcast of Jamie's Dyslexia Revolution, Holly responded to the documentary and a post made about it by Jamie. He had reflected on the reaction to the project in a post on Instagram this morning.

He wrote: "I've been completely blown away by the response to Jamie's Dyslexia Revolution. The stories so many of you have shared- about your own journeys, struggles, and strengths - have been powerful, emotional, and deeply moving.
"If you've got something to say about dyslexia or neurodiversity -whether it's your own experience, a frustration, or a big idea -please share it with [Secretary of State for Education] @bridgetphillipsonmp with the hashtag #ComeOnBridget and let her know that change is needed! If you missed it last night on @channel4 hit the link in my bio to catch up #ComeOnBridget."
Holly later shared the post on her Instagram Story and wrote in her caption: "Well done [Jamie] such an important documentary! Just the beginning of this conversation."
Jamie's Dyslexia Revolution is available through Channel 4.

Stevie Nicks cancels tour dates just days before first gig due to injury

Stevie Nicks has been forced to postpone a series of upcoming tour dates after sustaining a shoulder fracture that requires time to heal. The 76-year-old music icon took to Instagram to share the news directly with fans, confirming that concerts scheduled for August and September will be rescheduled. 'Due to a recent injury resulting in a fractured shoulder that will require recovery time, Stevie Nicks' scheduled concerts in August and September will be rescheduled,' she wrote. 'Please note that October dates will be unaffected.' The Fleetwood Mac legend added that the tour is expected to resume on Wednesday, October 1 in Portland, Oregon. 'Stevie looks forward to seeing everyone soon and apologizes to the fans for this inconvenience,' the message concluded. Fans who have already purchased tickets are advised to retain them, as they will be valid for the rescheduled shows. Specific details about new dates and venues will be made available at the original point of purchase. Nicks had initially announced a nine-date tour across the US and Canada back in April, with performances slated for August and October. Due to overwhelming demand, additional shows were later added, including a launch night at Brooklyn's Barclays Center on August 8, as well as stops in Hollywood, Florida and Detroit in September. October was set to bring her to cities including Portland, Sacramento, Atlantic City, Charlotte, and Hartford. The news comes after Nicks postponed her Glasgow gig at short notice after having minor surgery for a leg injury. The Dreams singer was due to appear at the OVO Hydro earlier this month but organisers said she needs a 'few days of recovery' following a medical procedure. Even more recently, Nicks and Lindsey Buckingham officially confirmed the re-release of their 1973 duo album Buckingham Nicks. The famously acrimonious former bandmates caused fans to 'crash out' with a matching pair of social media posts in June, and then the appearance of a mysterious billboard a few days later. More Trending Many took to social media to speculate that the pair might finally be on speaking terms again after famously feuding for decades. Then, they informed the world that a re-release of Buckingham Nicks – which they recorded before joining Fleetwood Mac – will be available September 19. For now, fans will need to wait just a little longer to see the mystical frontwoman return to the stage. The silver lining? Nicks plans to be back on the road this autumn. Got a story? Coronation Street airs telling scene as Swarla's future 'revealed' amid bombshell

Carla Connor seemed to come one step closer to uncovering Lisa Swain's late wife Becky's past on Friday's episode of Coronation Street as her future with the policewoman became clear Carla Connor seemed to be one step closer to uncovering the truth about Becky Swain on Friday's episode of Coronation Street. The Underworld boss, played by Alison King, has been dating Weatherfield detective Lisa Swain for just under a year now, but it has become apparent over that time that there is still a lot to come to light. ‌ As viewers will know, before she made her first appearance on the ITV soap, Lisa was married to Becky and they had daughter Betsy (Sydney Martin) together. But Becky, also a police officer, was killed in the line of duty when she was hit by a car. ‌ The circumstances surrounding her death have never been fully disclosed, although it is known that the car was being driven by the brothers of Mason Radcliffe (Luca Toolan), who was stabbed to by his brother Logan (Harry Lowbridge) death earlier this year. Determined to uncover more, Carla took it upon herself to visit Logan in prison and she managed to extract a kernel of information out of him, even though he seemed unwilling to talk when she first arrived. ‌ He told her: "So what happens next? I tell you everything and then I never hear from you again? It's not gonna happen. Money first, then I talk. You cough up, and then I'll cough up." A desperate Carla tried to reason with Logan, as she told him how the whole situation was 'killing' Lisa. Logan asked Carla for £10,000 but she refused and then he let slip the name: "Tia Wardley," as he added: "You can have that one for free. Anything else, you know the price." ‌ While all this was going on, Lisa, already reeling as today would have been her and Becky's wedding anniversary, left her counselling session and immediately hacked into her DI Costello's (Daon Broni) email to see what sort of information she can find for herself over her late wife's death. She was shocked to discover that PC Kit Green (Jacob Roberts) had already been on the case, but before she could process that, she was caught by DI Costello himself. She begged: "I have to know what you had on Becky, was she corrupt or not? She was my wife and I'm starting to feel like I didn't even know her!" Lisa's superior threatened her with the sack for reading his emails, but she was undeterred as she insisted that she has a "right to know" more about Becky's death, especially when she was being investigated for something at the time of her death. In the end, Costello tried to throw her off the scent by warning her: "It was a misunderstanding, simple as. I won't take this further, but you need to drop it. Leave the past in the past!" ‌ Lisa then coolly slid into the pub to confront Kit, telling him: "My gut said it all along. 'He's a wrong'un Lisa, you can't trust a word he says.' I know what you've done. I saw it in black-and-white. You e-mailed Costello asking to see Becky's files. Why are you so obsessed with my wife?" Kit tried to explain that he had been told to drop it and wasn't prepared to lose his job over the matter, but Lisa quickly branded him a 'liar and a snake' before adding: "You put so much as a toe out of line then I will come crashing down on you, DC Green. I mean it!" And back at the factory, Carla was unable to keep her mind off Tia Wardley. Eventually, she opened her laptop to throw the name into a search engine, but seemed confused when the only results that came back focused on a American sports star, who had retired after she sustained multiple injuries in a cycling accident, and a local lollipop lady with the same name who had retired. Unable to suss things out, Carla closed her laptop and seemed to forget all about it. But things started to come to a head at home later when Lisa asked to borrow Carla's laptop, and immediately spotted her search history. Carla confessed that she had been to visit Logan, and that is how she had become aware of the name Tia Wardley. She told her: "You need answers, I thought I may be able to help", but seemingly brushing everything off, Lisa replied: "And this, Tia Wardley, is it? She's going to help?" Carla then claimed that Logan had probably just been making things up, but things took a concerning turn in the next scene when an inmate walked into Logan's cell and said: "You've been a chatty boy today, haven't you?" and slammed the door. In the end, Lisa decided to commit her future to Carla as she removed her wedding ring and said: "I want to build a life with you, in the house that we bought together. Matching bathrobes, everything. I'm all yours!"

Diversity star makes unlikely cameo in Bonnie Blue's new Channel 4 documentary

One Diversity star made a quick cameo in Bonnie Blue's new Channel 4 documentary in the form of a throwback photo Diversity star Ashley Banjo made an unlikely appearance in Channel 4's new documentary about adult film star Bonnie Blue's life. The adult star became one of the most controversial figures on the internet after encouraging "barely legal" teens to sleep with her in X-rated content she films and profits from, and her content continues to become more and more extreme. ‌ A new Channel 4 documentary, titled "1,000 Men and Me: The Bonnie Blue Story", was recently released and has exposed the often lonely reality of earning millions of pounds while being ostracised. During the documentary, dancer Ashley appeared in a form of a photo where he was seen with his arm around a younger Bonnie. ‌ The photo appeared while the porn star's mum discussed her passion for dance when she was younger. Ashley's name wasn't mentioned in the segment but the picture was clearly showed her past love of dance. It comes after one Mirror writer claimed 'the new Bonnie Blue documentary may be the worst thing I've ever seen on Channel 4'. ‌ Her mum also reminisced about the time Bonnie and her then dance partner won a runners-up trophy in a dancing competition. During the documentary, viewers hear from Bonnie's ex-husband Oliver Davidson for the first time. She revealed it was actually Oliver, or Ollie as he's known to Tia, who encouraged her to move into sex work. ‌ "I met Ollie when I was like 14, 15," she explains in the show. "We got married really young. Pretty, quite intimate wedding, nothing crazy, nothing over the top. Then we relocated to Australia shortly afterwards. "Ollie was beyond supportive, he gave me the confidence to do OnlyFans. And it wasn't because he wanted to pimp me out, he just wanted me to be happy and have control of my life. And obviously the money was good as well." Her ex gushed about Bonnie's sex stunts with the public and even said he's proud of her and her work. He said: "She really connects with the fans. ‌ "Most people, if they do porn, they seem out of reach. You're never going to meet them. You're never going to be able to film with them. "Whereas Bonnie puts a location online, and then obviously her fans can actually film with her. It's like a defining moment in porn, where she's completely changed the game." ‌ In a recent interview, Bonnie explained why things didn't work between the couple. She told the Daily Mail that they broke up some time before she moved back to the UK from Australia in 2024, and that Ollie returned before her. Bonnie also discussed her fears after admitting she last went out by herself six months ago as it is "not that safe". 'I get 100s of death threats a day, so it is not that safe when I walk around," she said. "I say, 'It is going to happen at some point, someone will come and give me stick' and fair play to her, at least they are getting up off their sofa. My worst one is acid, if someone did acid, and I could see some spiteful girl doing that.'
