New 'Happy Gilmore 2' trailer drops at Netflix Tudum fan fest with some familiar NJ places
A new movie trailer shows Adam Sandler's hockey-stick-swinging golfer Happy Gilmore returning in summer 2025, with New Jersey as his backdrop.
Netflix revealed the new trailer for the highly anticipated comedy "Happy Gilmore 2" during its Tudum fan event on May 31, teasing a sequel packed with celebrity cameos and callbacks to the 1996 original. Shot across locations in towns including Hoboken, Clifton and Verona, the new movie brings Gilmore out of retirement with a new motivation: ballet school tuition for his daughter.
The price tag? $300,000. Gilmore's plan? Take another shot at the pro circuit.
The movie set for a July 25 release on Netflix reunites familiar faces from the first installment, including Christopher McDonald as Shooter McGavin, Julie Bowen as Virginia Venit, Kevin Nealon as Gary Potter and Ben Stiller as the menacing nursing home orderly Hal. The cast also includes Sandler's real-life daughters Sadie and Sunny, wife Jackie, and Bad Bunny in the role of Gilmore's caddie.
In the trailer's opening, Sandler's Gilmore wipes out on the tee box while being watched by Eric André, Margaret Qualley and Martin Herlihy. The trailer also includes appearances by Post Malone, Travis Kelce, Maxwell Jacob Friedman, Stephen A. Smith, Becky Lynch, Ken Jennings and others. Sandler hinted at some of the cameos months ago, saying on the "Dan Patrick Show" in December that he filmed with Eminem for a day.
'He said a million things we can use and we are glad we had him on tape,' Sandler said at the time.
Sandler co-wrote the script with longtime collaborator Tim Herlihy and brought in Kyle Newacheck to direct. Martin Herlihy, whose father co-wrote the original "Happy Gilmore," joined the cast alongside some fellow "Saturday Night Live" performers and golfers such as Rory McIlroy, Bryson DeChambeau, Nelly Korda, Jack Nicklaus, John Daly, Paige Spiranac and New Jersey native Scottie Scheffler.
Golf courses like Fiddler's Elbow in Bedminster served as key locations. The movie also had temporary sets in Verona, Washington Township and The Oranges, among other New Jersey locations.

Netflix first announced the movie pickup as part of its Upfront presentation to advertisers last year, affirming that 'Adam Sandler will reprise his iconic role in a brand-new movie, Happy Gilmore 2.' It was McDonald, via a radio interview — and then Drew Barrymore, somewhat randomly — who first got the Happy Gilmore 2 buzz going. During an episode of Barrymore's syndicated daytime talker, she received, in real time via text, confirmation from Sandler that a sequel script was in progress. Sandler co-wrote the original 1996 motion picture and also starred as the titular Happy Gilmore, a lovable loser who only ever wanted to be a professional hockey player. But when Happy discovers he actually has a talent for playing an entirely different sport, golf — and after his grandmother learns that she will lose her home unless she ponies up $270K for the IRS — he joins a golf tournament to try and win enough money to save the day. The Happy Gilmore cast also included Christopher McDonald as a rival golfer, Julie Bowen as Happy's love interest, the late Frances Bay as Grandma and the late Carl Weathers as retired pro 'Chubbs' Peterson, while the late game show icon Bob Barker had an instantly iconic cameo as himself. Maggie Lawson is getting back into law enforcement. The Psych star is joining the cast of Boston Blue, CBS' Donnie Wahlberg-led offshoot of Blue Bloods, our sister site Deadline reports. Lawson is playing Boston Police Department Superintendent Sarah Silver, the 'strong-willed' and 'decisive' stepsister of Detective Lena Silver (played by Sonequa Martin-Green). Hardywood, Beet Box and more will open at the Richmond airport this year
By the end of the year, folks flying out of Richmond airport should have four new places to eat or grab a drink. Why it matters: Hardywood Park Craft Brewery and The Beet Box juice bar, two local brands, will be some of the new options. The big picture: The Capital Region Airport Commission, the group that owns and operates Richmond International Airport, last week signed off on two new full-service restaurants and bars, plus two new coffee and cafe kiosks, for the airport. The newcomers were selected from the commission's request for new concession proposals last year, according to BizSense, which first reported the news. Three will land in Concourse A (the one on the right / if you're flying American or JetBlue), while Concourse B (if you're flying Delta, Southwest or United) will get the fourth. Faber, Coe & Gregg, a New Jersey-based airport concession vendor, will operate the restaurants and Richmond's own Beet Box will run the two kiosks. Zoom in: The Hardywood Park Craft Brewery (airport edition!) will go near gates A-15 and A-16 (in place of open seating) and include a full-service restaurant and bar, plus grab-and-go options, per the resolution adopted at last week's meeting. The Beet Box's two concepts (one called The Beet Box and the other Homegrown) will go near gates A-8 and A-11. Concourse B travelers won't be left behind though. A Wolfgang Puck Bar & Bites will taxi in near gates B-14 and B-15. All four should be open by the end of the year, airport spokesperson Troy Bell tells Axios.
