Pakistan says killed 30 militants trying to infiltrate border with Afghanistan
Pakistani security forces intercepted the militants in the restive North Waziristan district, according to the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), the military's media wing.
All 30 militants, belonging to 'Indian proxy Fitna Al-Khawarij,' a reference to the Pakistani Taliban, were killed as a result of 'precise and skillful engagement.'
'A large quantity of weapons, ammunition and explosives was also recovered from the killed Indian-sponsored Khawarij [militants],' the ISPR said in a statement.
'The interim Afghan government also needs to check and prevent the use of Afghan soil by 'foreign proxies' for orchestrating terrorist activities against Pakistan.'
Pakistan has witnessed a sharp rise in violence in its western regions bordering Afghanistan, with Islamabad accusing India of backing militant groups and Afghanistan of allowing the use of its soil for attacks against Pakistan. Kabul and New Delhi deny the allegation.
The North Waziristan district has long been a stronghold of the Pakistani Taliban, who have mounted their attacks against Pakistani security forces and checkposts, and law enforcers since late 2022, when their fragile, months-long truce broke down with Islamabad.
On June 28, a suicide attack, claimed by Hafiz Gul Bahadur group of the Pakistani Taliban, killed 13 Pakistani soldiers and injured 29 people, including civilians, in the volatile district that borders Afghanistan, local government and police officials said.
A day later, the district administration imposed a 30-day restriction on the movement of people and vehicles from dusk till dawn, saying it was in the interest of 'public safety, law and order, movement of security forces and [to] restrict the movement of outlaws.'
In a statement issued from his office, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif praised Pakistani security forces for foiling the militant infiltration attempt in North Waziristan.
'We are determined to completely eradicate all forms of terrorism from the country,' he said. 'The entire nation salutes their security forces.'

Pakistan, UAE agree to boost cooperation in higher education, human resources
ISLAMABAD: Pakistan and the United Arab Emirates (UAE) have agreed to strengthen bilateral cooperation in higher education and human resource development, the Pakistani embassy said on Saturday. The statement came after a meeting between Pakistan's Ambassador Faisal Niaz Tirmizi and Dr. Abdulrahman bin Abdulmanan Al-Awar, the UAE minister of human resources, higher education and scientific research. 'Both sides reviewed ongoing collaboration and explored avenues to further enhance bilateral cooperation in the fields of higher education and human resource development,' the Pakistani embassy said. 'The discussions reflected a shared resolve to work closely on initiatives that benefit students, academic institutions, and professionals from both countries.' Ambassador Tirmizi reiterated Pakistan's commitment to strengthening institutional linkages and advancing cooperation in skill development and workforce preparedness. 'Minister Dr. Abdulrahman Al-Awar lauded the longstanding and brotherly relations between the two countries and expressed the UAE's keen interest in expanding its partnership with Pakistan in mutually beneficial areas,' the Pakistani embassy said. 'He welcomed sustained dialogue and coordination between the relevant authorities of both nations.'

Saudi Arabia expands aid project for flood-affected families in Pakistan
Riyadh: Saudi aid agency KSrelief has launched the third phase of its food security support project in Pakistan, the Saudi Press Agency reported. The launch ceremony was held at the Saudi Embassy in Islamabad, attended by Saudi Ambassador Nawaf bin Said Al-Malki, Pakistan's Federal Minister for National Food Security and Research Rana Tanveer Hussain, and other officials. Al-Malki said the project 'reflects the directives of the Saudi leadership and its continued support for the people of Pakistan.' He added that it is part of a series of KSrelief initiatives intended to help vulnerable families, particularly those affected by floods across the country. The project will distribute more than 30,000 food baskets in various regions of Pakistan. Each basket contains essential food items sufficient for a family for one month, the SPA reported. The project will assist a total of 210,000 people, Al-Malki added. Hussain expressed the gratitude of the Pakistani government and people for Saudi Arabia's ongoing humanitarian assistance. Meanwhile, KSrelief concluded the Saudi Noor program to combat blindness and its causes in Settat, Morocco, on Saturday. During the week-long campaign, medical volunteers examined 2,525 patients, performed 276 surgeries, and distributed 957 pairs of glasses. In Yemen, a KSrelief team visited vocational training centers in Seiyun district, Hadramout governorate, to assess the Vocational Pathways project aimed at empowering young men and women. The team reviewed training programs in motorcycle electrical maintenance and sewing and tailoring, which are benefiting 40 participants from both the host community and displaced populations. The project is part of the Kingdom's humanitarian efforts to benefit Yemeni youth through vocational training and tools, contributing to sustainable development for the country. In Sudan, KSrelief distributed 500 food baskets to displaced families in several towns in Blue Nile State, benefiting 3,266 people. The agency also distributed 1,550 food baskets in El-Gadarif State, benefiting 10,230 individuals. -ENDS-

Three militants killed in ‘encounter' in Pakistan's volatile northwest — police
KARACHI: Three Pakistani Taliban militants were killed in an 'encounter' with police and counter-terrorism department (CTD) personnel in Pakistan's northwestern Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) province, the CTD said on Saturday. CTD officials from KP's Bannu district conducted a raid in Lakki Marwat along with local police on intelligence report about the presence of militants, according to a CTD statement. It resulted into a shootout with militants which left three members of the Pakistani Taliban's Tipu Gul group dead, whereas officials seized three Kalashnikovs and hundreds of rounds from the site. 'Bannu CTD wanted the deceased terrorists for their involvement in IED (improvised explosive device) blasts, attacks on police and other serious offenses,' the CTD statement said. Pakistan has struggled to contain a surge in militancy in KP since a fragile truce between the Pakistani Taliban, or the Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP), and Islamabad broke down in late 2022. The TTP and other militant groups have frequently targeted security forces convoys and check-posts, besides targeted killings and kidnappings of law enforcers and government officials in the region in recent months. Bannu has seen a number of attacks on security forces, while a number of policemen have been killed in targeted killings in Lakki Marwat. Islamabad accuses India of backing militant groups and Afghanistan of allowing the use of its soil for attacks against Pakistan. Kabul and New Delhi deny the allegation.
