29 Naxal-hit Chhattisgarh villages hoist Tricolour for 1st time since independence

India Today2 days ago
In a historic development, the national flag was hoisted on Friday for the first time since independence in 29 Naxal-affected villages across Chhattisgarh's Bastar region. Police camps have been established in all these villages to ensure security for the 79th Independence Day celebrations.Bastar division, which comprises seven districts, has been struggling with the menace of Left Wing Extremism since over the past three decades. Residents were often forced to follow the diktats of Naxal groups, who labeled the nation's independence as "false freedom" and opposed any government activities. In several areas, Naxals even hoisted black flags in protest during national festivals.advertisementHowever, over the past two years, the security situation has begun to improve. Police camps are gradually being set up in previously high-risk areas, paving the way for the introduction of developmental projects. Continuous efforts by security forces, administration, and targeted development initiatives have created an environment of trust in these villages.
Villagers actively participated in the Independence Day celebrations, enthusiastically hoisting the Tricolour. In Narayanpur district, flag hoisting took place in Horadi, Garpa, Kachhpal, Kodliyar, Kutul, Bademakoti, Padmakot, Kandulnar, Nelangur, Pangur, and Raynar. In Sukma district, villages including Raigudem, Tumalpad, Golakunda, Gomguda, Mettaguda, Uskavaya, and Mulkathong witnessed the tricolour fluttering for the first time. In Bijapur district, Kondapalli, Jeedapalli, Vatebagu, Karregutta, Pidia, Gunjeparti, Pujari, Kanker, Bhimaram, Korcholi, and Kotpalli celebrated the occasion with flag hoisting.Special forces like the District Reserve Guard, Bastar Fighters and Special Task Force and all wings of the state police, and Central Armed Police Force troops have been continuously carrying out patrolling and other area domination activities in their area of responsibility.Speaking about the same, Sukma SP Kiran Chauhan said police camps are being established continuously in interior areas. Under the state government's Nellanar scheme, development works including road construction, electricity, and mobile towers are being implemented along with basic infrastructure in these villages. The Nellanar initiative is aimed at boosting development in Naxal-affected districts like Bijapur, Sukma, Kanker, Dantewada, and Narayanpur and ensuring that residents gain access to essential services and welfare schemes.- Ends(With inputs from Dharmendra Singh.)Must Watch

Attacking RSS a ‘guarantee solution' for CM to save his chair: BJP

Bengaluru: Taking a dig at Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah for attacking the RSS, the BJP leader R Ashoka has said it has become a 'guarantee solution' for the former to save his chair. The Leader of Opposition in the Assembly was reacting to Siddaramaiah targeting Prime Minister Narendra Modi for describing the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) as the 'world's biggest NGO', during his address to the nation from the Red Fort on the 79th Independence Day on Friday. Siddaramaiah had on Friday claimed the RSS is 'the world's biggest for-political-profit, for-hate, and most divisive organisation-unregistered, non-tax-paying, and conspiring to pit Indians against each other.' 'It's no surprise CM Siddaramaiah jumps at every chance to attack the RSS. It's not conviction - it's compulsion. It's not ideology - it's insurance. It's not belief - it's survival,' Ashoka said. In a post on 'X', he claimed that Siddaramaiah attacks the RSS to impress the Gandhi family and prove loyalty to the Congress high command, to keep the CM chair safe from the factional knives in his own party, and to distract from his government's failures, by demonising an organisation that serves the nation selflessly. 'Smear RSS = Please Gandhis + Protect Chair + Distract from Failures. A guarantee solution for CM Siddaramaiah's -- how to save the chair -- problem!' he added.

‘Nandhan' sparks social transformation, Sasikumar and director Saravanan express happiness, video goes viral

The 79th Independence Day was celebrated with great enthusiasm across the country on Friday (15.08.2025). The national flag was hoisted in all government offices, schools, and colleges, and people celebrated together in patriotism. But for many years, in some parts of Tamil Nadu, panchayat presidents from certain communities were denied permission to hoist the national flag in their offices. A strong voice was raised about this situation in the Tamil film 'Nandhan', which was released last year. Sasikumar calls it a historic change As a symbol of this change, on Independence Day this year, Panchayat Presidents of a particular community hoisted the flag in their offices without any restrictions. The 'Nandhan' team is happy to see this as their success. 'Nandhan' hero Sasikumar wrote on his Instagram page, "All the Dalit Panchayat leaders in Tamil Nadu have hoisted the flag on the 79th Independence Day. This is a huge change. On behalf of 'Nandan', we would like to thank everyone who supported us. " Director Saravanan credits govt action and Nandhan's impact 'Nandhan' director Saravanan also expressed his gratitude. This is a great pride for us," he said, sharing a related video on social media. Seeman hails milestone Meanwhile, Naam Tamilar Party leader Seeman said, 'The news that the leaders of the Aadithamizhgudi Panchayat Council hoisted the flag on Independence Day without any hindrance this year is heartening. The Tamil Nadu government issued a special order for this, and the main reason for that was the movie Nandan, which was released last year. The impact of that movie was the impetus for this social change,' he said. This has once again proven how great an impact a work of art can have on society. Delhi police chief sets priorities for department: Self-reliance, tech and public trust

NEW DELHI: Delhi Police Commissioner SBK Singh on Saturday hoisted the Tricolour at police headquarters on the 79th Independence Day and outlined a roadmap for the police force in alignment with Prime Minister Narendra Modi's Independence Day speech. He emphasised three priorities for Delhi Police to pursue in mission mode — achieving self-reliance (Atmanirbharta), leveraging technology, and fostering healthy competition. In the context of Atmanirbharta, the CP has directed Delhi Police units to work on this aspect and come up with a proposal within 15 days' time. The aim is to make Delhi Police self-reliant on many fronts to stop our dependence on other units for things like commandos, bomb disposal squads, and wireless sets, among others. 'Although the Delhi Police has always been making the best use of technology, and we are way ahead on this front, there is still a need to go further. Whether it is a matter of surveillance systems, preventing cybercrime, anti-drone technology, or the ability to fight terrorists, the use of technology is required in every field,' Singh said. Singh further directed all the police units handling technology-related matters to form committees to conduct necessary studies, and submit proposals within a month to enhance the use of technology in official functions. He stressed, 'We need to build a sense of healthy competition and shun the feeling of jealousy. We need to embrace this principle at individual and as well as at the organisational level,' he said. 'Despite working so hard, even beyond the working hours, somewhere we have not been able to win the trust of the public in the form that we should have done. Every policeman needs to come out of a feudalistic mindset and shift attitude from 'Shasak Bhav' to 'Sewa Bhav' to earn the trust of the public. This will enable the public to approach police without any hesitation in case of need,' he stated.
