Heal Ponnurunni, CIFT collaborate for sustainable waste management
Kochi: HEAL Ponnurunni Society, which is engaged in sustainable waste management, is collaborating with Central Institute of Fisheries Technology (CIFT). CIFT officials and office-bearers of the society signed a memorandum of understanding for sustainable waste management on Friday.
In the presence of mayor M Anilkumar, the memorandum was exchanged between CIFT director George Ninan and HEAL Ponnurunni Society president and corporation councillor Dipin Dileep. Ninan explained the technologies developed under Swachhta Action Plan to mayor. To promote environmental protection and waste management in agriculture, CIFT developed BioBoost and MicroBoost (a microbial mixture). As part of the agreement, these products will be provided to HEAL Ponnurunni.
CIFT will assist in fertilizer production, testing and expanding HEAL model to other areas.
Under the leadership of Dileep, activities of HEAL Ponnurunni Society became a new model for waste management. HEAL model, which involves collecting waste from homes and institutions, converting it into fertilizer and using it for agriculture, gained national attention.
Waste management in the division has been made smarter through My Kochi app, with QR codes installed in 1,800 homes and institutions.

Information on waste removal and fees can be accessed through the app. User fees are collected via POS machines, first implemented in this division. Waste collection is carried out by Haritha Karma Sena members. The collected waste is converted into enriched fertilizer and sold under the name HEAL Environment at Rs 30 per kg.
Besides selling fertilizer, the society also engages in farming on vacant plots in the division under agreements with landowners. Currently, various crops, including banana and eggplant, are cultivated on 76 cents. Sale of agricultural produce is conducted through HEAL Harvest outlet at the society's headquarters located under Vyttila flyover.

Elevated corridor planned to free up traffic in Sonia Vihar in northeast Delhi
New Delhi: Public Works Department has initiated the process for constructing an elevated corridor spanning 5.5km along Sonia Vihar Pusta Road in northeast Delhi. The department has issued a tender for its feasibility study. Currently, the irrigation and flood control department owns this stretch. The tender seeks a consultant to conduct a comprehensive study for the corridor, which will extend from Nanaksar Gurudwara T-Point to the Delhi-Uttar Pradesh border at Tronica City. Officials have noted that the route handles substantial vehicular movement throughout the day, leading to significant traffic congestion during both peak and non-peak hours and causing inconvenience to both residents and commuters. Building an elevated road is likely to alleviate the congestion problem. The corridor will also improve connectivity between Delhi and the UP border, said a senior official. PWD minister Parvesh Verma conducted a site inspection in April and announced the project. The estimated cost is Rs 500 crore. The central verge's existing space will make it possible to construct an elevated road without significant obstacles, said officials. The right-of-the-way assessment will span six kilometre. The Nanaksar T-junction marks the starting point, where six approach roads connect to Pusta Road via a service road. "There are trees present on both sides of Pusta Road, and there is a Delhi Jal Board pipeline passing underneath. All of this will be part of the feasibility study," the tender stated. The Sonia Vihar treatment plant, operated by DJB, is situated near the proposed alignment. "Widening of Pusta Road on the city side is not feasible because of space constraints. So, an elevated road will be built," the official said. This would bring relief to residents as the demand for an elevated road was long pending. Pillars will be erected on both sides of the road to leave the traffic at the ground level unaffected, he added. The construction of this elevated road will resolve congestion at several bottleneck points. Officials said PWD had been instructed to expedite all necessary procedures to start the work at the earliest. The PWD minister earlier said, "The people of Sonia Vihar have been struggling with severe traffic congestion, making this project essential. However, due to the large number of trees in the area, we have now decided to build an elevated flyover instead." Verma mentioned that he received a request from local MLA Kapil Mishra, following which the project was discussed with chief minister Rekha Gupta and received approval. Eight yrs after inception, 7,310 plaints in MahaRERA backlog
Eight years after its formation in 2017,the state's real estate regulator, MahaRera, is still grappling with a significant backlog of unresolved complaints. Of 29,374 complaints filed so far, 7,310 remain pending, prompting calls from homebuyers, legal experts, and activists for faster redressal and stricter enforcement of orders. Although MahaRera has resolved 21,888 cases and holds online and offline hearings, the increasing number of unresolved cases has alarmed consumer groups. They stressed the need for appointment of more adjudicating officers and setting up of regional benches to manage the growing caseload. MahaRera has registered over 50,000 real estate projects — the highest among state regulators — with nearly 50% of them located in Mumbai Metropolitan Region and Pune. However, stakeholders argued that this operational scale has not been matched by adequate capacity to address consumer grievances. Currently, MahaRera has one chairperson, two members, and three adjudicating officers. Activist Godfrey Pimenta of the Watchdog Foundation pointed out that this limited setup cannot cope with the volume of complaints. Modi is also expected to have several bilateral meetings on the margins of the summit in Kananaskis. While the PM will have a meeting with his Canadian counterpart Mark Carney, his other bilateral engagements are still being worked out, official sources said. Modi will also come face to face with US President Donald Trump for the first time since their meeting in Feb. The ministry of external affairs said in a statement that the visit to Cyprus - the first by an Indian PM since AB Vajpayee visited the country in 2002 - will reaffirm the shared commitment of the two countries to deepen bilateral ties and strengthen India's engagement with the Mediterranean region and the European Union.
