EastEnders fans stunned as soap icon returns to TV leaving them 'obsessed'
A fan-favourite EastEnders made an unexpected return to TV, leaving viewers thrilled. Cheryl Fergison, who played the iconic Heather Trott on the BBC soap, has been open about her lack of work in recent years.
The actress revealed her financial struggles after leaving the soap in 2012, and shared how she got help from a foodbank as well as EastEnders legend Dame Barbara Windsor. Following the challenging time, Cheryl has made a comeback to the small screen.
She shocked viewers when she rocked up in BBC Two's comedy series Mandy. The actress made a guest appearance in the show, which is written by Diane Morgan.
It follows the goings on of permanently out-of-work Mandy Carter and her best friend Lola. Mandy was forced to attend a restart scheme at her local job centre, where she encountered an unimpressed Stella, played by Cheryl.
Stella only said one worked to Mandy, as she called her "dirty". Cheryl's fans were thrilled by her return to screens as one said: "Obsessed with Cheryl 'two words' Fergison. She did a cracking job."
Another added: "Congrats Cheryl!" Someone else commented: "Can we talk about the amount of cameos in Mandy cuz what do u mean Cheryl Fergison and Martin Lewis casually popped up within the first ep of series 4?"
A fourth declared: "Ar Cheryl is in the new season of Mandy." While on EastEnders, Cheryl racked up a huge fan following until her character was sensationally killed off.
Ben Mitchell smacked her over the head with a picture frame, causing her to hit her head on the way to the floor. Life after the soap hasn't been quite so straightforward, with Cheryl opening up on her struggles earlier this year.
She revealed she had turned to a food bank for help and was relying on benefits. In order to try and make ends meet, Cheryl settled for far smaller jobs including opening a Chinese takeaway in Cleveleys earlier this year.
The actress told Casino.org: 'My health is good, but my finances will take a long time to recover. Until I have steady work, I'm not rich or comfortable—I'm just surviving.
"I've been saying yes to everything for no money, but I need to start valuing my work and asking for fair pay. Even my agent insists on it.'
She added: 'Still, I'll never give in. I want to keep singing. If people criticise me for singing in small restaurants, so be it. At the end of the day, I'm an entertainer. Community has always been important to me, and I'll perform no matter the crowd.'
Once at the top of her game as a primetime BBC star, Cheryl fell into dire straits after she was conned out of a 'humungous' amount of money. She said on This Morning: 'There is a circumstance that started this, which I can't talk about at this moment in time, but it started to spiral.
"The only way I can say it is I was conned out of a humongous amount of money. That led to the cancer thing and everything spiralled. I was robbing Peter to pay Paul. I ended up having to sell my house. Now I am living up north and renting."

Rochelle Humes returns to This Morning in denim dress that costs less than £50
Rochelle Humes is back on the This Morning sofa and she's already impressing with her outfit choices. The former Saturdays singer wore a flattering denim dress that costs £46 After wowing in a butter yellow cardigan for her This Morning debut last week, Olivia Attwood has passed the summer holidays presenting baton to an equally stylish host. Rochelle Humes has stepped into the role this Monday wearing a gorgeous indigo denim dress that costs less than £50. Co-presenting the daytime show alongside Dermot O'Leary, the ex-Saturdays singer wore a dark denim sleeveless dress, which we've hunted down online. The frock is from ASOS' affordable own brand, coming in at a purse-friendly £46. The dress boasts a ruched front with an on trend drop waist, complete with a sleeveless silhouette that's ideal for warm weather styling. Styled by Amber Jackson, Rochelle wore the dress with a heels flip flop and gold jewellery, rocking a long, 90s style bob. Her dress is made from 100% cotton, perfect for summer, and has a zip back fastening which gives it more structure, while making it easier to get on and off. It also looks far more expensive than its £46 price tag would suggest. The ASOS number comes in significantly cheaper than this zip-up Mint Velvet Blue Denim Midi Dress, available for £130 at Next. It comes in a similar colour and silhouette, but has pockets, a slit at the back and zip fastening at the front. For a high street alternative, River Island's Blue Denim Pintuck Stretch Denim Midi Dress is only £3 more expensive than the ASOS dress, costing £49. Instead of ruching, it has pintuck detailing which cinches the waist for a snatched appearance, however, the cotton content is lower than the ASOS dress, Rochelle is known to be a fan of River Island, too. Appearing on the show in May she opted for a crisp white wrap shirt from ASOS (£32), featuring long sleeves, a spread collar and a flattering wrap-front design, as well as River Island's Blue Seam Detail Balloon Leg Jeans. She told her fans: "There's a new rule, we didn't used to wear jeans but we can wear jeans now. This is amazing news to me. So these are River Island, they're like a nice barrel cut." What's more is that the £49 jeans are now on sale, costing £25 an available in most sizes. Rochelle isn't the only ITV favourite who loves the retailer, either. Last week, Frankie Bridge had followers racing to River Island for her Brown Faux Leather Funnel Neck Bomber Jacket, which is £52. Styling the jacket with some blue wide leg jeans and a graphic vest top, she said: 'This jacket is perfect for over summer as it's lightweight and is perfect to throw on if the weather changes.'

EastEnders star's wife is rushed to hospital as she's left unable to speak hours before family holiday
EastEnders star Ricky Champ's wife Sammy was rushed to hospital as she was left unable to speak and with swollen eyes just hours before they were due to go on family holiday. Sammy shares two children with the actor, who played Stuart Highway in the iconic soap from 2018 to 2022, and has been suffering from an ongoing health issue. And with just hours before she was supposed to meet her acting husband at Disney, she was left with swollen eyes and was forced to get medical help. In a Story shared to Instagram, Sammy shared a snap of her sore-looking eyes and her swollen lips as her skin broke out into hives. Alongside the post, she penned: 'What is the absolute one thing you don't need to happen the day before you fly to Disney when you need to go shopping/ pack/clean/do that's right, wake up with your lips so swollen you can't speak and eyes swollen shut so you're in A&E at 7am. 'One of the side effects of my gallstones and liver is severe hives all over my body every single morning that go away by bedtime then I wake up and it starts all over again. 'Something due to the toxins etc (still not considered urgent though, still been told need to wait a year + for an op).' After seeking medical advice, Sammy revealed her face had returned to normal and was no longer swollen ahead of their trip to France. Ricky was one of five cast members to be written out of EastEnders in 2022. Stuart was at the centre of a father's post-natal depression storyline, with the character struggling to bond with his baby Roland. He had struggled with his mental health after his diagnosis with breast cancer and he is having trouble adjusting to parenthood after he and wife Rainie (Tanya Franks) tried for a child for a long time. Ricky first set foot in Albert Square back in 2018 and has landed a spell of intense storylines, including confessing to accidentally killing DI Steve Thompson (Philip Wright) - who later turned out be alive. He also admitted to being a vigilante paedophile hunter which stemmed from being sexually abused as a child. The actor's additional ventures include his role as Paul Parker in the BBC Three sitcom Him & Her and a Games Of Thrones appearance as Gatins. Ricky was one of five cast members to be written out of EastEnders in 2022. Stuart was at the centre of a father's post-natal depression storyline, with him struggling to bond with his baby Ricky filmed his final scenes as Stuart late in 2022. 'In EastEnders I went from villain to hero to dad,' he told Digital Spy at the time of his exit. 'It was amazing, doing that for five years with a character's arc. It felt weird leaving him,' he admitted. Ricky hasn't ruled out a return to the soap someday, as he claimed that anything is possible. 'He didn't die. He rode off into the sunset. I think he's somewhere in the North Circular living with Rainie,' he said of his character.

Strictly Come Dancing 2025 is just around the corner and the professionals looked delighted to be back in action as they rocked up for the first day of rehearsals The Strictly Come Dancing professionals were all smiles as they rocked up for the first day of rehearsals for the new series today. Fans of the BBC dance show can't wait for primetime programme to be back on our screens and they don't have long to wait! Ahead of its launch in September, a whole host of familiar faces were papped this morning as they made their way into the rehearsal studio - and they were joined by two new recruits. First to be seen arriving, was much-loved star, Amy Dowden, who is back in business after being forced to leave the show early last year while recovering from a foot injury. The Welsh wonder, who also underwent chemotherapy and a mastectomy in May 2023 following her breast cancer diagnosis, looked delighted to be back with her pals as she smiled for photographers, clutching a coffee and a Holland and Barret bag. Also flashing a smile a mile wide was last year's champion, Dianne Buswell. The Aussie, who lifted the Glitterball trophy with Chris McCausland, arrived at the dance studio sporting a tan waistcoat and matching boots with cut-off denim shorts alongside fellow pro, Kai Widdrington, who flashed the peace sign. Next to arrive was South African star, Joahnnes Radebe, who cut a striking figure, sporting a Protect The Dolls a paisley neckerchief and suede ankle boots. He was followed by Spanish champion, Gorka Marquez and Ukranian dancer, Nadiya Bychkova, who looked gorgeous in an all-cream ensemble with a Union Jack bag. Nadiya recently admitted that she and pro, Kai, no longer speak to one another after they briefly dated, so hopefully things will go smoothly in training today. Also seen at the studio were Vito Coppola, Lauren Oakley, Karen Hauer and Michelle Tsiakkas. They were joined by Jowita Przystal and Janette Manrara's husband, Aljaz Skorjanec. And finally, making their debut in the Strictly gang were new recruits, Alexis Warr and Julian Caillon. Alexis, hailing from the US, triumphed in So You Think You Can Dance in 2022, earning the title of America's Favourite Dancer and becoming the first female Ballroom and Latin dancer to win the accolade. Meanwhile, Julian, originally from Australia, started dancing at the tender age of 10, focusing on Ballroom and Latin American styles, and has proudly represented Australia in international competitions. Expressing his excitement about joining the show, Julian stated: "Joining the cast of Strictly really is a dream come true. "I've watched it for years, especially cheering on all the amazing dancers I know and work with who've been part of it. I can't wait to get stuck in, have some fun, and be part of something special!" And Alexis shared: "I've admired Strictly for years, so joining this incredible family is such an honour. I can't wait to step into the ballroom, pour my heart into every moment, and share my love of dance with the UK."
