In a shocking incident, the woman allegedly threw the newborn out of the window shortly after his birth on a moving bus in Maharashtra.
A 19-year-old woman gave birth to a baby on a running bus in Maharashtra's Parbhani and then allegedly threw the newborn boy out of the window with the help of a man claiming to be her husband, officials said.
The baby died after being thrown off the bus on the road. The incident took place at around 6.30 am on the Pathri-Selu Road on Tuesday.
The incident came to light when a resident spotted the baby being thrown out of the window, wrapped in a cloth. Upon being confronted later, the couple said that the woman had vomited out of the window.
The couple was identified as Ritika Dhere and Altaf Shaikh, who were travelling to Parbhani from Pune in a sleeper coach of Sant Prayag Travels.
'A woman, identified as Ritika Dhere, was travelling to Parbhani from Pune along with Altaf Shaikh, who claimed to be her husband, in the sleeper coach bus of Sant Prayag Travels. During their journey, the woman, who was pregnant, started experiencing labour pains and gave birth to a baby boy. However, the couple put the baby in a piece of cloth and threw him out of the vehicle," news agency PTI quoted a police official as saying.
The police said that an alert resident checked what was thrown out of the bus and was 'shocked to find that it was a baby boy". He immediately informed the police about the development.
As the police were alerted, a local police patrol team chased the bus and held the couple.
The couple confessed to throwing the baby out of the bus and said that they did so as they were unable to raise the child.
The police said that the duo hailed from Parbhani and had been living in Pune for the past year and a half. The couple claimed that they were married, but failed to show any documents to back their claim.
'After taking them into custody, the police rushed the woman to a hospital for treatment," the police said.
The police have filed a case against the couple at the Pathri police station in Parbhani under Section 94 (3) and (5) of the new BNS law, which deals with hiding a birth by secretly getting rid of the baby's body. The investigation into the matter is underway. The couple has been given a legal notice.

Pune Police Station Defaced, Cops Pepper-Sprayed By Arrested Man: ‘Will Enter Your Homes, Kill You'

Raju alias Barkya Londhe was brought to the police station at around 1 am when he started ranting and broke the windows of the station. A man accused in multiple cases created a ruckus at Pune's Sahkar Nagar police station when he pepper-sprayed police personnel. Four to five policemen have been injured in the incident. Nabbed in connection with a molestation case on July 18, Raju alias Barkya Londhe, vandalised the station. He was earlier arrested under the Maharashtra Control of Organised Crime Act (MCOCA), which is mainly meant for the control and prevention of criminal activity by organised gangs or syndicates. Londhe was out on bail in the MCOCA case when he reportedly molested a woman. After the woman lodged a First Information Report (FIR) at the Sahkar Nagar police station, a search was launched to find him. As per reports, Barkya Londhe was brought to the police station at around 1 am. He started ranting and broke the windows of the station. He injured himself and threatened to kill the policemen as well. The accused continued to rant for around one to one and a half hours. He also pepper-sprayed some of the cops, leaving them with breathing problems. Londhe has now been taken to a hospital for a medical examination. Senior Police Inspector at Sahkar Nagar police station, Rahul Gaud told Indian Express, 'The accused injured himself and pepper-sprayed the police. He has been taken to a hospital for a medical examination. We are lodging a fresh offence against him on charges of causing disturbance in government duty. Further investigation is on." The incident comes just days after Sahkar Nagar police station was in the news for allegedly refusing to register complaints. As per a report in the Lokmat Times, a brawl broke out between some wrestlers and youths near Tajali Maidan on July 15. The wrestlers had reportedly beaten up the youth and also molested some women present at the location. The youth were preparing for a police recruitment exam when the incident occurred. A video of the incident later went viral on social media, as per the outlet. A sit-in protest was organised in front of the Sahkar Nagar police station due to allegations that the police was refusing to lodge complaints against the wrestlers. A case was later registered against the wrestlers. view comments First Published: Disclaimer: Comments reflect users' views, not News18's. Please keep discussions respectful and constructive. Video: Mumbai Hotelier Caught Smoking Hookah In SUV Despite Statewide Ban

The video has raised questions about how such an act could take place near such a high-security zone. In a blatant violation of Maharashtra's hookah ban, a video has surfaced showing the owner of a prominent Mumbai hotel, Muhammad Thakker, smoking hookah inside a luxury SUV just outside Mantralaya, the state's administrative headquarters. The footage, shared on Instagram by Bandhu News on Thursday, quickly went viral and sparked widespread public outrage. In the video, Thakker can be seen smoking a hookah while driving a Range Rover, raising serious concerns over both legal and safety violations. Caught on Camera Muhammad Thakker is the owner of Faham Lounge, a popular hotel located in Mumbai's Masjid area. In the video, Thakker casually smokes hookah while driving from the Mantralaya signal towards the Air India building. A staff member, wearing a T-shirt with the Faham Lounge branding, is also seen sitting in the back seat. Thakker even invites others to join him, saying, 'If anyone wants to smoke hookah, they can come sit in my car." He claims the hookah is 'herbal," but all forms of hookah use in public are banned under state rules, regardless of contents. Public Reaction And Legal Concerns The video has raised questions about how such an act could take place near such a high-security zone. Many citizens are now demanding action from the police. So far, the Mumbai Police has not made any official statement. Thakker also claims to run other food and hookah businesses internationally, including in Dubai. At his Mumbai outlet, herbal hookah is reportedly served. However, reports say that many parlours in the city offer nicotine-laced hookah under the guise of herbal flavours, especially to youngsters. CM Fadnavis Vows Strict Action This incident comes just months after Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis warned of strict action against illegal hookah parlours. On March 25, he said in the state assembly that licenses of such restaurants would be cancelled. He also said police officers in the area would be held accountable if lawbreaking is exposed by citizens or the media instead of law enforcement. Despite the clear order, this bold violation has sparked concern about law enforcement and the growing disregard for public safety norms.
