Israel-Iran tensions could widen India's CAD by 0.3% of GDP, says ICRA
If the heightened tension in the West Asia pushes average crude prices by USD 10 per barrel, it will typically push up India's net oil imports by nearly USD 13-14 billion during the year, enlarging the India's CAD by 0.3 per cent of GDP, noted a recent report by
ICRA
.
"If the average crude oil price rises to USD 80-90/bbl in FY2026, then the CAD is likely to widen to 1.5-1.6% of GDP from our current estimate of 1.2-1.3% of GDP. This would also exert pressure on the USD/INR pair during the fiscal," ICRA said.
The report says the conflict between Iran and Israel, which began on June 13, 2025, pushed crude prices from USD 64-65/bbl to USD 74-75/bbl. Now, after the US strike on Iran's nuclear sites, Iran has announced that it will close the

Additionally, ICRA believes that "any sustained disruption in supplies from Iran, and/or spread of the conflict to other large producers in this area and/or any disturbance in the trade route through SoH could drive energy prices higher."
On the natural gas side, nearly 54 per cent of natural gas imports for India pass through SoH, and a major share of the term LNG originates from Qatar and the UAE. And any disruption in the SoH may result in supply uncertainties from Qatar and the UAE, which may result in higher dependence on the spot LNG market.

Cacora waste plant soon to be fully operational
Panaji: Goa Waste Management Corporation cleared the hurdles to enable the full-capacity operation of the solid waste management plant at Cacora to reduce the burden on the garbage treatment plant at Saligao. A senior officer said that at present, the plant is operating at 70% capacity, and it will soon reach its 100% capacity. For that, all the waste generated in and around the plant will be shifted to the plant. Waste from four talukas — Quepem, Curchorem, Canacona, and Dharbandara — will be treated at the plant by procuring additional vehicles. A senior officer said that govt promised to use specialised vehicles to transport the waste to the plant to avoid slippage of leachate on the road while transporting the waste. 'We decided to add additional vehicles so that the waste generated in South Goa is shifted to the Cacora plant to meet its full capacity,' a senior officer said. The 100 TPD (tonne per day) solid waste treatment plant at Cacora started functioning but never reached its full operational capacity. The legacy waste dump was removed using bioremediation to make way for the construction of the Rs 173 crore plant. The plant was constructed along the lines of the Saligao plant, and the design was upgraded to take into account the Solid Waste Management Rules, 2016, and learnings from the shortcomings of the Saligao plant. The plant will have separate lines for wet and dry waste, with the organic extruder being the heart of the system. The design and technical parameters of the plant were vetted by an expert committee. New special vehicles will be procured to transport the waste to the plant without any leachate dripping on the road, which was the main reason for the plant not operating at full capacity.

Flight path obstacles at Gadchiroli airport site prompts state to look for alternative
Nagpur: Too many obstacles in the flight path and prospects of further vertical growth in Gadchiroli city, given the development push, has prompted the state govt to look for an alternative site for its plan to build an airport in the Maoist-affected district. The Maharashtra Airport Development Company (MADC) had planned the airport close to Gadchiroli city. The initial site covered four villages: Murkhada, Pulkhal, Kanori and Mudhja. MADC was appointed as the agency to acquire 229 acres of land for the project after the initial study was completed. The study revealed that there were a number of obstacles in the flight path, including building of an educational institute, a high-tension line, and a power plant chimney. If a flight path avoiding the obstacles was fixed at the same site, it would have increased the project cost by at least Rs150 crore, said sources. Rather, it is now decided to look for an alternative site. The city is expected to grow in the coming days, and the structures that come up may further obstruct the operations, said a source who is part of the project. Last week, chief minister Devendra Fadnavis issued directions to hold an obstacle limitation survey (OLS) for the airport. A source said this was meant for the fresh site. It would follow a pre-feasibility study of the airport at the new site. An airport has been proposed at Gadchiroli in view of the development in the district. Recently, Jindal Group announced plans to build the country's biggest integrated steel plant in the district. Lloyds Metals and Energy Limited (LMEL), which operates an iron ore mine, also commissioned a 4 million tonnes pellet-making plant. This is part of LMEL's plans to build an integrated steel plant too. The third company, Surjagad Ispat, also plans to build a steel plant in south Gadchiroli. As per the airport plan, a 2,500-meter airstrip will be laid so that commercial planes can land in Gadchiroli. Having an airport will do away with the need for investors or businessmen to travel to Nagpur and take a road journey further to Gadchiroli, a source said. The four villages where the airport was earlier planned come under the Panchayats (Extension To Scheduled Areas) Act (PESA). The law gives autonomy to gram sabhas (village councils) on decisions related to the area. This means gram sabha approval would have been needed even for the airport.

Israel-Iran conflict: Air India halts all flights to Middle East; Europe and US east coast also affected
NEW DELHI: The closure of UAE and Qatar airspace late Monday night as missiles were fired from Iran towards US bases in Qatar and Iraq threw commercial air traffic completely out of gear. Hundreds of lights to and from the region — that houses mega hubs like Dubai, Doha and Abu Dhabi along with multiple smaller ones like Sharjah — were impacted. Flights headed there from across the world, including multiple Indian cities, were diverted, returned to origin or were put on hold. Flights headed from Lucknow to Dammam; Mumbai to Kuwait and Amritsar to Dubai were among those that turned back to the origin from over the Arabian Sea. And aircraft supposed to take off from there, remained on the ground. Early on Tuesday morning, Air India said it has ceased 'all operations to Middle East as well as to and from the East Coast of North America and Europe with immediate effect, until further notice. The point-to-point trafic between India and Doha is rather low, with the majority being one-stop transit flyers. IndiGo, the biggest Indian operator to Doha, saw the maximum impact. Its enroute flights to Doha from Delhi and Hyderabad were diverted to Bahrain and one from Kochi went to Abu Dhabi. Comments were sought from Qatar Airways and awaited till the time of going to press. Air India's three flights were immediately impacted: one was diverted to Abu Dhabi, other returned to India and the third was put on hold. AI Express put boarding of its Doha-bound flights on hold at Indiana airports. AI Express has flights between Doha and six Indian cities — Kannur, Kochi, Kozhikode, Mangaluru, Thiruvananthapuram and Tiruchchirappalli. Multiple flights headed from the west to Doha diverted to nearby cities including Riyadh, Abu Dhabi and Dubai. Within an hour, the UAE airspace was also closed. That threw flights completely ot of gear. 'At this point, there's utter chaos and we can't even guestimate the impact,' said senior official of multiple airlines.
