IPS officers get relief in actress Jethwani's case
Vijayawada: Two IPS officers - Kanti Rana Tata and Vishal Gunni, and former ACP K Hanumantha Rao got some relief in the film actress Kadambari Jethwani's forgery document case.
The Andhra Pradesh High Court on Thursday gave orders not to take further action on these suspended police officers in the forgery case of the Jethwani. These officers are facing charges that they illegally arrested actress Jethwani.
She lodged a complaint to the Vijayawada police that she was illegally arrested and harassed by the Vijayawada police including some IPS officers in 2023. Later, the NDA government took action against the former intelligence chief PSR Anjaneyulu, two IPS officers Kanta Rana Tata, the former commissioner of police, Vijayawada, and Vishal Gunni the former DCP of Vijayawada.
Kanti Rana, Vishal Gunni, former ACP K Hanumantha Rao and Circle Inspector M Satyanarayana filed a petition in the High Court alleging that their suspension was illegal and filed a petition for anticipatory bail.
Counsel on behalf of the suspended police officers told the AP High Court that the police officers had performed their duty on the instructions of the higher authorities. They said investigation of the accused is not a crime and the IPS officers should get anticipatory bail.
The AP High Court on Thursday continued the hearing and issued interim orders not to take further action against these police officers and posted the petition for further hearing for June 30. Senior advocates S Sriram, Vemulapati Pattabhi and Vinod Kumar Pandey argued on behalf of the police officers. They said performing the duties as per the instructions of the higher officers is not a crime. Jethwani had alleged that the Vijayawada police illegally detained and harassed her in a forgery case.
It may be recalled that former intelligence chief PSR Anjaneyulu was arrested by the CID and sent to judicial remand. He has been under suspension for the past few months.

G haziabad: Five days after businessman Rahul Dagar was shot dead outside a highrise society in Raj Nagar Extension, police arrested two men in connection with the case on Friday. On June 1, six gunmen came in a car and shot at Rahul Dagar, who ran a hotel in Uttarakhand's Haldwani, and his nephew Ashish outside Classic Residency around 9.30 pm. Rahul succumbed to a bullet injury he received in the stomach, while Ashish was hit on the leg. His brother-in-law Avinash, who was also at the spot, later identified Dagar's business partner, Nagendra Chaudhary, and three other attackers – Mohit Chaudhary, Ritesh Bindal, and a man known as Mantri as their attackers in the police complaint. ACP Nandgram Poonam Mishra said Ritesh Bindal (37), alias Lala, and Mohit Chaudhary (42), the prime accused, were arrested around 200m from UCO Bank on the road leading from LT Chauraha towards Rajnagar Extension. A .32 bore pistol used in the crime, along with two live cartridges and one spent cartridge, were also recovered from their possession. During interrogation, the accused revealed Dagar was a business partner of Nagendra and Manish. After a dispute over financial matters, however, Mohit and Nagendra started their own business. "They said Dagar had another dispute with Mohit over financial matters a week ago, which led to a fight where Mohit's wife was also present. After this, Mohit decided to take revenge," the ACP said. Ritesh claimed he borrowed Rs 6 lakh from Dagar. While he had paid back the amount, he was unable to pay back the interest due to a health emergency. While Bindal attempted to assure Dagar that he would pay him back, Dagar allegedly visited Bindal's house and harassed his family. Bindal lodged a police complaint alleging Dagar and Avinash barged into his house with weapons and misbehaved with his family. An FIR was subsequently registered against the two under BNS sections 333 (house-trespass after preparation for hurt, assault or wrongful restraint), 351 (3) (criminal intimidation), and 352 (intentional insult with intent to provoke breach of peace) on May 31, a day before the shooting. According to the ACP, accused Nagendra, Mohit, Rohit Sharma, Pradeep Sharma, Manish, and one unknown person had gathered at Ritesh's electronics shop near Classic Residency on June 1 prior to the murder. They consumed alcohol and planned to kill Dagar. Mohit called up Dagar and a heated argument ensued. Later, Mohit asked Dagar to meet. Out for morning walk, two friends die in hit & run in Ghazaiabad
Ghaziabad: Two neighbours who'd been friends for a decade were run over at the Rotary roundabout in Raj Nagar Extension while they were on an early morning walk, a ritual they had followed for years, on Friday. According to police, Subhash Singh (57) and Kamlesh Yadav (45), residents of Brij Nagri in Nandgram, left for the walk around 5am. They were on their way back around 5.30am when a four-wheeler rammed into them from the back. Its driver sped away. Kamlesh's son Atul told TOI some neighbours informed the family about the accident. "We reached the spot and took them to a nearby hospital. Both of them succumbed to their injuries within an hour," Atul said. Atul, a BJP functionary, said his father was the RWA president of the colony and Subhash was an e-rickshaw driver. "They had been friends for 10 years and were living in the area for the past five years. When Covid-19 happened, they decided to go for morning walks to become fit. They'd leave at 5am and return by 6am," Atul said. Nandgram ACP Poonam Mishra said a police team was rushed to the spot of the accident on Friday morning and was trying to gather information about the vehicle that hit the two men. "We have registered an FIR against an unknown driver under sections 106 (causing death by negligence) and 281 (rash driving or riding on a public place) of BNS at the Nandgram police station," the ACP said. Atul said there were few eyewitnesses near the roundabout at the time of the crash. The ACP said two teams have been formed to investigate the case. Notorious Woman Peddler Caught With MD In Late-Night Raid
Nagpur: Jaripatka police have arrested a notorious woman drug peddler, Preeti Gajbhiye, during a late-night raid on Thursday and seized 44.93gm of mephedrone (MD) from her residence in Lumbini Nagar. The contraband, which was kept in a ziplock bag hidden in a kitchen container, is estimated to have a street value of ₹89,860. Acting on a tip-off, a team of officers, led by inspector Arun Kshirsagar, conducted the raid at around 11:30pm. The operation was executed after surveillance teams confirmed suspicious activity around the accused's home. After recovering the contraband, police team put Gajbhiye under arrest. A case has been registered under sections 8(c) and 21(b) of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act. Speaking to TOI, Kshirsagar confirmed that the accused is a history-sheeter. "Preeti Gajbhiye, aged 45, is not new to the police records. We had previously arrested her last year for possession of 10 to 12 gm of MD," he said.
