There's a new face in the Kaizer Chiefs training squad at Naturena.
The club's first-choice right-back, Reeve Frosler, has been injured, while Dillan Solomons has failed to fully grab the opportunity.
According to iDiski Times , a 24-year-old named Mheli Mabuza has started to train with Kaizer Chiefs.
'Newly crowned Nedbank Cup champions Kaizer Chiefs are assessing former KZN Academy defender Mhleli Mabuza, who is a free agent after parting ways with Portuguese fourth-division outfit Louletano D.C,' the outlet reported.
'The 24-year-old is a versatile defender who plays at right-back and can also convert as a winger and midfielder, which has seen him recently be named as the best right-back in the Campeonato de Portugal,' iDiski Times added on the Kaizer Chiefs trialist. A potential move to Naturena. 'Chiefs have a strong interest in the Ugandan striker and are ready to make an offer to sign him,' a source confirmed. However, any immediate deal could face a delay. Simba SC President Mo Dewji has reportedly instructed the club not to entertain transfer negotiations for Mukwala, until the conclusion of the current Tanzanian season, which is the 22 of June 2025. But Kaizer Chiefs aren't the only ones circling. Newly crowned CAF Confederation Cup winners RS Berkane have also made formal enquiries following the final in Zanzibar. The Moroccan outfit are said to be preparing a R5.3 million bid to lure the striker north. Mukwala's statistics this season highlight exactly why he's attracting so much interest. He has bagged 12 goals and delivered three assists, making him one of the most efficient forwards on the continent. To add to that, the ex-Asante Kotoko forward remains under contract until June 2027. With two major clubs now vying for his services and more potentially to come, Mukwala has become one of the most in-demand strikers in African football. The cherry on top for Basadien was the 27-year-old being named as the stand-in skipper for Bafana Bafana, as Ronwen Williams is away at the FIFA Club World Cup. It's been a good year for the former Moroka Swallows man. Naturally, the monied clubs in Gauteng have been lining up and are interested in his services. According to reports, Mamelodi Sundowns, Kaizer Chiefs, and Orlando Pirates all want to sign him. Not many local footballers get a chance to pick between one of the big three. But my main focus is to use whatever opportunity I get to play and keep doing what I do and keep improving every day. 'So, whatever happens in the background is just part of the rumours that have been created. But for me, in football, there comes a time where you want to achieve greater things – maybe play for the so-called big teams or make big moves.' So, with that being said, where should he go next? For many, the logical answer would be Mamelodi Sundowns. At Chloorkop, Basadien would land in a very stable situation, where every player knows what is expected of them and clear goals are set. While Sundowns supporters are passionate about their club, they're not as vocal and opinionated as those from other clubs. If he struggles to settle in, they would be patient enough to give him time to get used to his new surroundings. The same can't be said about fans of the Soweto clubs. While Pirates are more settled as a football operation, Chiefs are not. The club have just finished outside of the top half for a second successive season and are in desperate need of open-heart surgery. Kaizer Chiefs would be completely the wrong move for a player who is starting to make a name for himself on the international stage. And we all know how quickly Chiefs supporters can turn on players who don't hit the ground running. Basadien must think carefully now. He's not a youngster anymore, and this next move could define the rest of his career. A switch to Sundowns makes sense if he wants silverware and structure, but he'll have to fight for his place every week. Pirates might offer him that balance – game time and prestige – while Chiefs, honestly, look like a gamble right now. Whatever he chooses, the ball's at his feet. And in South African football, that's a rare kind of power. KZN Treasury banking on Comrades Marathon to give local tourism a boost
DURBAN - KwaZulu-Natal's Treasury Department has described Comrades Marathon as a major boost for the province's economy. Thousands have booked accommodation in Pietermaritzburg and Durban ahead of the marathon. The race will start in Pietermaritzburg and end at the Moses Mabhida Stadium in Durban. Finance MEC Francious Rodgers said the province always gets excited to host this event. 'It's obviously one of those really big events that we are proud of. It has a history in the province of KwaZulu-Natal, and it's not a South African event, it's an international event.' He said the hospitality industry will do business this weekend. 'And if you try and to get accommodation in Durban and Pietermaritzburg over the weekend, it's fully covered, booked, and that's exactly what we want.'
