Mahayuti government divides Ladli Bahin scheme beneficiaries along caste, community lines for 'financial ease'
MUMBAI: To ease the financial burden of the popular Ladli Bahin scheme, the Mahayuti government rather than releasing the fund from its parent department, has decided to seek the beneficiary amount from different state departments against the total number of respective beneficiaries from that particular caste and community.
According to a senior government official, the state women and child development department initiated and launched the Ladli Bahin Scheme ahead of state assembly elections. It was decided that the required fund for this scheme will be taken from this same department only.
'But as the cost of this ambitious scheme is growing and that is putting a heavy burden on the state exchequer and women and child department alone cannot bear the total expenditure of this scheme. Therefore, it was strategically decided to divide the scheme beneficiaries on the line of cast and community. And, seek the fund from these respective departments and release these same category and caste women beneficiaries,' the official explained, requesting anonymity.
As per these bifurcations, the women and child development department -- the parent department of Ladli Bahin Scheme -- has started seeking funds from various departments for that particular caste and community beneficiaries.

Criticising the Mahayuti-led state government for 'merely giving an assurance' to the kin of a Pahalgam terror attack victim, NCP(SP) working president Supriya Sule on Friday urged the government to implement the assurance of job to Aswari Jagdale in Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC), daughter of victim Santosh Jagdale. 'We had demanded a job to Asawari citing that the sole earning member of the family Santosh Jagdale was killed. The chief minister had assured us of the job but has not implemented it till now,' said Sule. The NCP(SP) leader said, 'Asawari is highly qualified and will be given a government job in PMC. The state government should implement its assurance.' Sule, who held a discussion with PMC officers on civic issues, highlighted the fatal road accidents taking place on city roads including the one at Gangadham chowk. 'The PMC needs to act fast in resolving civic issues that are costing lives of citizens. The water pollution in Khadakwasla dam is another serious issue which the civic body will resolve fast,' she said, adding the road conditions in the city and water logging is causing inconvenience to citizens. The NCP (SP) working president said the delimitation process for PMC elections have started as per state government decision. 'We want it to be a transparent process which is based on a standard formula and not as per the imagination of any person,' she said. Sule said that the state government is planning to recover the property tax from residents of newly merged 32 villages despite assurance of no recovery ahead of Lok Sabha and state assembly elections. 'They seem to be least bothered about promises after the elections. The PMC has not yet provided any services in these areas, so why should they recover property tax?,' she added. The NCP(SP) leader said she was shocked by the closure of Sarasbaug by PMC on the alleged demand of a BJP MP to avoid the muslim community from celebrating Eid in the garden. 'I wasn't aware of this. It is shocking. If I was told earlier I would have got it opened. I will ensure it is not repeated next year,' she said. On the ongoing indefinite hunger strike by former legislator Bachu Kadu, Sule said that the NCP(SP) has extended support to Kadu as he is justified in seeking justice for farmers who are in distress. 'The Mahayuti has assured complete loan waiver to farmers but has not taken any decision so far. The farmers are suffering with their hard work going in vain due to heavy rain across the state,' she said, adding that the legislator has been asked to take care of his health.

Shiv Sena (UBT) blocks traffic in Sambhajinagar in last leg of ‘Kya Hua Tera Wada' agitation
Chhatrapti Sambhajinagar: Shiv Sena (UBT) faction organised a chakka jam protest during the final phase of its 'Kya Hua Tera Wada' agitation on Thursday. The Sena (UBT) workers demanded comprehensive loan waivers for farmers and called for the BJP-led Mahayuti govt to fulfil all pre-election commitments. The campaign, which commenced on June 6, sought to hold the govt accountable for promises made by BJP, Shiv Sena, and NCP before the elections. Ambadas Danve, the leader of the opposition in state legislative council, headed the demonstration at Baba Petrol Pump Chowk in the city. Demonstrators blocked major city access routes, including those from Ahilyanagar, the railway station, central bus stand, and Kranti Chowk, causing traffic disruptions for hours. The protest saw hundreds of Shiv Sainiks, office-bearers, and farmers participating. Police maintained strict security. Officers subsequently detained the protesters and transported them to Kranti Chowk police station. Following legal procedures, they were released with instructions to avoid future protests that might inconvenience the public.
