The 20-year-old has signed a five-year contract after the clubs agreed a fee understood to be in the region of £19.5million.
Talbi arrived on Wearside on Tuesday and has completed a medical to join fellow new additions Enzo Le Fee, Habib Diarra and Noah Sadiki as Regis Le Bris prepares for life back in the top flight.
He said: 'I'm really excited to be here and grateful for the opportunity to play for this club.
'I made the decision because it's a great project with a talented, exciting team full of young players – and that really motivated me.
Welcome to Sunderland AFC, Chemsdine Talbi! ❤️🇲🇦
— Sunderland AFC (@SunderlandAFC) July 9, 2025
'The Premier League is the biggest and best league in the world, so I'm looking forward to getting started. I know the fans will get behind me from the start, and I can't wait to see them at the stadium.'
Talbi made 38 appearances for Brugge last season, 11 of them in the Champions League, as the club finished second by a point behind Royale Union Saint-Gilloise – Sadiki's former side – in the Jupiler League.
Two of his seven goals for the campaign came in a 3-1 play-off victory at Atalanta in Europe on the way to a 6-1 aggregate defeat by Aston Villa in the last 16.
Sporting director Kristjaan Speakman added: 'Our momentum and story are powerful, and I think players of Chemsdine's calibre, who are in high demand, are excited by the prospect of playing for Sunderland AFC.
'It's a testament to our recent past and immediate future that he feels this we are the right club for his next step.'

Premier League players make decision on anti-racism gesture of taking the knee

Premier League players have decided they'll perform the anti-racism gesture of taking the knee twice during Black History Month this season. The Lionesses scrapped the gesture during Euro 2025 this summer after claiming that it had lost its impact – with England star Jess Carter facing online racist abuse during the women's football tournament in Switzerland. Taking the knee became a popular anti-racism gesture in England five years ago – inspired by former NFL quarterback Colin Kaepernick – who started performing it in 2016 in protest of racial inequality and police brutality in the USA. The gesture became more widely used in 2020 after the murder of George Floyd, an unarmed black man, by a police officer in the USA and the Black Lives Matter (BLM) movement which followed. Taking the knee has largely split opinion among football fans in England – with some supporters applauding the gesture when it has been been performed ahead of kick-off in matches – and others deciding to boo, because of some calls within the BLM movement to defund the police. In The Mixer: Exclusive analysis, FPL tips and transfer talk sent straight to your inbox every week – click here and sign up before Friday to make sure you don't miss the first edition. The gesture isn't as widely used as it was five years ago – but is still sometimes seen in the top-flight of English football – and players have now made a fresh decision on taking the knee ahead of the 2025-26 season. Following a meeting of Premier League club captains on Thursday, it has been decided that players will take the knee twice this term, with the gesture set to be performed in October to mark Black History Month. Kick It Out says it received record-high reports of discrimination during the 2024-25 season. The number of racist incidents in the professional game increased from 223 to 245. There were 621 reports of online abuse submitted – a 5 per cent rise on last year – with 268 of those related to racism. England's men's team stopped performing the gesture following the last World Cup in 2022 – but their female counterparts continued with it until making a fresh decision during the Euro 2025 tournament after Carter faced online racist abuse. In a collective statement the Lionesses said: 'Representing our country is the greatest honour. It is not right that while we are doing that, some of us are treated differently simply because of the colour of our skin. 'Until now, we have chosen to take the knee before matches. It is clear we and football need to find another way to tackle racism. We have agreed as a squad to remain standing before kick‑off [in the semi-final against Italy].' To view this video please enable JavaScript, and consider upgrading to a web browser that supports HTML5 video England star Lucy Bronze added: 'We feel as a collective, is the message as strong as it used to be? Is the message really hitting hard? 'Because, to us, it feels like it's not, if these things are still happening to our players in the biggest tournaments of their lives. 'It's about putting another statement out there to say it's something that still is a problem, it's something that still needs to be put right. More needs to be done in football, more needs to be done in society. What that is right now as an individual, I don't exactly know. 'But it's something that us collectively as a team and as a federation want to work towards, we want to make changes. This is a small step trying to create another change. 'We know the people higher up are the ones who can ultimately put in things to make change. But I think we know we're never helpless as players and our voices are loud enough to be heard by people around the world, whether that is social media platforms or federations like UEFA and FIFA. 'I think that's something we're very proud of as a Lionesses team, that we've created this voice and a platform and we can reach the highest of heights. 'We're willing to use that platform and that voice to make differences. The sentiment of taking a knee and then standing, as small as that might seem to some people, I think noise will be reached around the world.' ITV football pundit Ian Wright said: 'I think the decision to take the knee should always have been a personal thing. 'If you want to take the knee, take it. It was almost forced on people. If I was playing now and with everything the knee represents – if you go back to Colin Kaepernick and injustice and inequality and everything that goes with it – I would still take the knee. Even if I had to do it on my own.' Kick It Out, a UK-based anti-discrimination charity, said in a statement: 'We support players in whatever actions they choose to take to signify their support in the fight against racism, but the focus should be on the reason behind those actions rather than the actions themselves. 'Social media companies have failed to prevent exposure to this toxicity, and football must continue to use its collective power to hold them to account. We have been working with the government and the regulator, but we know that more urgency is needed from everyone involved.' Barry Ferguson reveals the Rangers mole has been leaking team news for months

Russell Martin's team for the Champions League clash with Plzen on Tuesday night was leaked to the world but legend has seen it all before Barry Ferguson has warned Rangers boss Russell Martin there's a mole inside the club's HQ who has been leaking out big game line-ups for months. ‌ In a bombshell exclusive interview on tonight's Hotline Live former interim boss Ferguson reveals how he tried to smoke out the guilty party after his very first team selection went viral – hours before shaking up his starting XI for a midweek trip to Kilmarnock. ‌ It's understood the internal treachery continued throughout his three months in charge and it reared its head again on Tuesday afternoon when rumours swirled around the internet that Martin had swung the axe on skipper James Tavernier and midfield linchpin Nico Raskin. ‌ Both players were left on the bench for the first leg of that night's crucial Champions League qualifier against Viktoria Plzen as Martin rang the changes following a miserable opening day draw at Motherwell. And Ferguson suffered flash-backs from his own stint at the helm from the moment he saw the team news begin to break hours before kick off on Tuesday. Speaking to our agenda setting online show he said: 'Aye, quite early on on Tuesday like probably half of Scotland did! The leaked team news. I'm sure that's something we'll go into. ‌ 'It's disappointing. You hear rumours, you know what it's like. But the team selection that was flying about with all my mates - and obviously I then get the messages through - was spot on. 'It's baffling why or how these things get out. It's not just Rangers by the way. I speak to other managers and other supporters of other clubs and it's the same thing. ‌ 'But that's the disappointing thing. I don't know how it gets out or why it gets out. 'I honestly don't understand why somebody would feel the need to leak something before a massive game.' Ferguson goes on to reveal how his own preparations for his first game in charge at Rugby Park were undermined when rival boss Derek McInnes discovered the new man had made a key switch to tactics and formation, before the Rangers team bus had even made it down the M77. ‌ Ferguson said: 'I was and it was disappointing. Obviously I got a message from a few of my mates, again, saying, 'Is this your team?'. I never replied to them obviously. But it was spot on. Again, I was just baffled and disappointed as to why these things tend to get out. 'I was going different that game. It was my first game in charge and I wanted to mix it up a wee bit. 'I went with two up top - I went with Hamza and Cyriel - because previously Rangers were predominantly a 4-3-3 team, or mostly under Philippe Clement. ‌ 'So yes, it was disappointing but you can't let things like that affect you. You need to park it and just get on with it. 'Thankfully we got the result that night and thankfully, on Tuesday night, Rangers steamrollered the Czechs.' ‌ Ferguson and his backroom team attempted to identify the culprit but in his column for Record Sport he describes the operation as 'like looking for a needle in a haystack'. And on Hotline Live he added: 'I did but listen, where do you start? It was one of those ones where I thought to myself, 'Do you know what, I've got more important things to concern myself with'. 'That's the way I looked at it and, as I say, it's not just at Rangers it's at loads of clubs. During my time as manager and even previously I'd speak to managers and they were in the same boat. 'But I just don't understand why and how it appears to get out.'

Douglas Luiz 'welcomed back' by Juventus despite his 'mistake' - but rumours of a Premier League return for the former Aston Villa star continue

Douglas Luiz has been 'welcomed back' into the Juventus squad despite being reprimanded over his failure to report promptly for pre-season training – but speculation over a return to the Premier League continues to swirl. Juventus director François Modesto revealed that the Brazilian midfielder, who endured a difficult first season in Turin, had been brought back into the fold after acknowledging he made a mistake. 'He was welcomed back,' Modesto told Tuttosport. 'He knows he made a mistake, we made sure he understood that. We called him in and made him realise what Juventus means. Douglas is very sorry, but this is in the past now and he is back in the group.' Luiz, 27, joined Juve last summer from Aston Villa in a £42million move but started just three Serie A games in a frustrating debut campaign. He featured only once during the club's Club World Cup run – a late substitute appearance in a 4-0 win over Al Ain – and has struggled to convince new manager Igor Tudor. The former Manchester City man was also criticised last month for failing to report for the first day of pre-season training – a decision that did not go unnoticed in Turin and is expected to have disciplinary consequences. However, Modesto's latest comments suggest the club are now focused on reintegration. Even so, Luiz's future remains uncertain. Juventus are reportedly open to letting him leave this summer, but only on a permanent basis. Nottingham Forest and Everton are among the clubs interested in signing the 18-cap Brazil international, although both have been exploring loan deals with options to buy – a formula Juve are said to be reluctant to accept. Luiz is currently valued at around £26m and remains a player admired in England after five strong years at Aston Villa, where he earned a reputation as one of the Premier League's most complete midfielders. The Brazilian has not hidden his frustration over how things have played out in Italy. Back in April, he responded to online criticism by questioning why he hadn't been given a proper run in the team. 'Now I want you to answer me: why hasn't a signing like mine played two consecutive games with this shirt?' he wrote on Instagram. 'I had just had one of the best seasons of my career, one of the best midfielders in the Premier League.' Despite reaffirming his commitment to the club, Luiz's off-field life has also been under the spotlight. He reportedly split from girlfriend and fellow Juventus player Alisha Lehmann in May, with reports in Italy suggesting they had differing views on their futures in Turin. While Lehmann is expected to stay, Luiz may yet move on.
