Espoo, Finland – Nokia today announced that Cybernet, Pakistan's leading fiber broadband provider, has chosen Nokia's cutting-edge optical transport solution for its new long-haul Optical Fiber Cable (OFC) network.
Designed to deliver 1.2 terabits per second (Tbps) per wavelength, this next-generation infrastructure will power Cybernet's national backbone.
The network will connect over 25 cities in its initial phase and deliver more than 50 Tbps of long-haul capacity.
This deployment will support data center interconnect, enterprise and carrier networks, as well as Cybernet's flagship consumer broadband service, StormFiber.
Cybernet provides comprehensive connectivity solutions across Pakistan, serving enterprise, corporate, and residential customers, in addition to offering carrier and transit services to international telecom operators.
To support its growing data demands and build a terabit-scale infrastructure, Cybernet is deploying Nokia's 1830 GX platform, integrated with 1.2T ICE7 coherent optics.
The new network will expand capacity along resilient, diverse routes and enable a high-speed, low-latency terrestrial backbone that spans the entire country.
In addition to connecting cities and communities through Cybernet's digital highways, the new backbone will also support cross-border transit services for carriers and internet service providers in Central Asia.
By delivering scalable, high-capacity services at globally competitive rates, this initiative will ultimately accelerate Pakistan's digital transformation and foster regional connectivity.
'By enhancing our network with cutting-edge technology, we're able to keep pace with our customers' rapidly evolving connectivity needs and deliver a superior end-user experience.
Nokia is a trusted technology leader with the expertise and innovation to support our modernization goals.
The 1830 GX-based solution will form the foundation for high-capacity services connecting Pakistan—and the region—to the global digital economy,' said Maroof Ali Shahani, Chief Operating Officer of Cybernet.
'Deploying state-of-the-art optical solutions ensures networks are not just keeping pace with, but even staying ahead in the race to meet surging bandwidth demands.
As Cybernet prepares to modernize its network infrastructure, Nokia is proud to be helping transform Pakistan's connectivity landscape with a 1.2T backbone, seamlessly interconnecting data centers, powering government networks, and delivering direct-to-home services,' said James Watt, Senior Vice President and General Manager, Optical Networks at Nokia.

CRISPR Therapeutics (NasdaqGM:CRSP) Sees 16% Stock Price Surge Over Last Month
CRISPR Therapeutics experienced a 15.8% increase in its share price over the past month. While specific recent news on the company was not available to credit for this movement, it's worth noting that during this period, the broader market rose by 1.8%, and has seen a 13% increase over the past year. With market earnings projected to grow 14% annually, the strong performance of CRISPR's stock could be viewed alongside these generally positive trends and any recent but unspecified developments as contributing factors to its upward momentum in the market. Be aware that CRISPR Therapeutics is showing 1 weakness in our investment analysis. Trump's oil boom is here — pipelines are primed to profit. Discover the 22 US stocks riding the wave. Over the past year, CRISPR Therapeutics' shares experienced a total return of 27.67% decline. This longer-term performance contrasts with the U.S. market's return of 12.6% and the U.S. Biotechs industry return of 9% over the same period. Despite the recent 15.8% increase in CRISPR's stock price over the past month, the longer-term underperformance highlights ongoing challenges. The company's significant net losses and decreasing revenue signal potential hurdles to achieving forecasted revenue growth of 57.32% per year. Earnings forecasts remain bleak, as CRISPR is currently unprofitable and not expected to turn profitable within the next three years. This indicates that while the recent uptick in share price might be aligned with short-term market trends, the company's underlying financial health presents uncertainties. Analyst consensus estimates a fair value price target of US$81.67, which is over twice the current share price. This suggests that the stock is trading at a substantial discount, potentially implying room for future price appreciation if the company can improve its financial metrics. However, it also underscores the risks, given the current unprofitable status and forecasted challenges ahead. North Dakota man accused of threatening to kill Obama, breaking into historic trading post site
BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) — A North Dakota man is accused of threatening to kill former President Barack Obama, breaking into a National Park Service historic site and threatening other people. A federal grand jury indictment filed Wednesday levies felony charges of burglary, damage to property of the U.S., terrorizing, malicious mischief, threatening to kill a former U.S. president and three counts of threatening interstate communications against Ian Patrick Stewart of Williston. The indictment said Stewart 'did knowingly and willfully threaten to kill and inflict bodily harm upon' Obama between April 20 and May 13. The document doesn't detail the alleged threat. Stewart also is accused of threatening to injure three Williston residents in May. The court papers say Stewart entered Fort Union Trading Post National Historic Site on May 13 when it wasn't open to the public, caused a building to evacuate and threatened a Park Service employee and Williams County law enforcement. He was armed, according to the indictment. Several law enforcement agencies responded, and the historic site and the road to it were closed during the 'barricaded subject situation,' the Williams County Sheriff's Office previously said. Stewart is held at the Ward County Detention Center in Minot. He is scheduled to appear Monday in court. No attorney is listed for him in court records. The Associated Press left him a voicemail. Fort Union Trading Post National Historic Site is along the Missouri River at the Montana-North Dakota border. The site focuses on the history of the fur trade and the post that operated there for decades in the 19th century.

‘Disgusted' Disney World fans fume that execs are ‘wiping out' park's original spirit as Rivers of America attraction closes down: ‘Canceling my trip'
They're sad about the happiest place on Earth. Disney World fans are fuming after the theme park announced the closure of three of its most iconic attractions: Rivers of America, Tom Sawyer Island and the Liberty Square Riverboat. The beloved destinations are set to shutter on July 7 to make way for Piston Peak National Park— a new attraction based on the Disney and Pixar 'Cars' universe. 3 The riverboat Liberty Belle sailing on the Rivers of America passes Tom Sawyer Island at the Magic Kingdom in Walt Disney World. TNS 3 Disney World, which has been in operation since 1971, is pictured. AP 'Imagine an awe-inspiring wilderness filled with towering trees, snowcapped mountains, breathtaking waterfalls, roaring rivers and impressive geysers,' the Disney Parks Blog enthused in a post promoting Piston Peak. 'While fictional, Piston Peak is inspired by the Rocky Mountain area and the history and iconic sights of the American Frontier and its national parks.' However, many Disney World visitors are dismayed that the new park will be constructed ot the expense of the other three attractions — all of which have been open to the public for decades. 'Canceling my trip in October and sadly, will never visit that park again,' one mourned. 'I am heartbroken at the loss of Tom Sawyer Island,' a Disney detractor declared on X. 'This is the WORST decision ever.' 'Walt's Rivers of America transports you to something ideal in American values of exploration, adventure, history, and scenery. A true park within a park,' an additional fan fawned. 'This is a HUGE mistake from Disney. Cartoon Cars will never last the test of time.' 3 However, other Disney lovers were far more upbeat about the upcoming changes, saying plans for Piston Peak appeared promising. 'I'm disgusted with current leadership of Disney Corp. I'm done with them. Still love classic Disney, but I've lost all interest in anything about current 'Disney' (parks , movies, streaming). They are not part of my world anymore.' However, other Disney lovers were far more upbeat about the upcoming changes, saying plans for Piston Peak appeared promising. 'I showed this to my 10-year-old and he SQUEALED with joy and shouted 'PISTON PEAK?!' I'm thrilled that new generations are getting spaces in the parks that speak to them. Almost forgot this is the whole point,' one Disney defender posted on X in light of the news. 'Thanks for your insight,' one reader responded. 'I'm so tired of the negativity around this upgrade of the space. 'I like that they're incorporating the river & adding new water features to keep the same vibe,' another wrote on Facebook DW News Today shared the news.
