‘Disgusted' Disney World fans fume that execs are ‘wiping out' park's original spirit as Rivers of America attraction closes down: ‘Canceling my trip'
They're sad about the happiest place on Earth.
Disney World fans are fuming after the theme park announced the closure of three of its most iconic attractions: Rivers of America, Tom Sawyer Island and the Liberty Square Riverboat.
The beloved destinations are set to shutter on July 7 to make way for Piston Peak National Park— a new attraction based on the Disney and Pixar 'Cars' universe.

'Imagine an awe-inspiring wilderness filled with towering trees, snowcapped mountains, breathtaking waterfalls, roaring rivers and impressive geysers,' the Disney Parks Blog enthused in a post promoting Piston Peak.
'While fictional, Piston Peak is inspired by the Rocky Mountain area and the history and iconic sights of the American Frontier and its national parks.'
However, many Disney World visitors are dismayed that the new park will be constructed ot the expense of the other three attractions — all of which have been open to the public for decades.
'Canceling my trip in October and sadly, will never visit that park again,' one mourned.
'I am heartbroken at the loss of Tom Sawyer Island,' a Disney detractor declared on X. 'This is the WORST decision ever.'
'Walt's Rivers of America transports you to something ideal in American values of exploration, adventure, history, and scenery. A true park within a park,' an additional fan fawned. 'This is a HUGE mistake from Disney. Cartoon Cars will never last the test of time.'

'More wiping out of the Walt Disney era,' another spluttered. 'I'm disgusted with current leadership of Disney Corp. I'm done with them. Still love classic Disney, but I've lost all interest in anything about current 'Disney' (parks , movies, streaming). They are not part of my world anymore.'
However, other Disney lovers were far more upbeat about the upcoming changes, saying plans for Piston Peak appeared promising.
'I showed this to my 10-year-old and he SQUEALED with joy and shouted 'PISTON PEAK?!' I'm thrilled that new generations are getting spaces in the parks that speak to them. Almost forgot this is the whole point,' one Disney defender posted on X in light of the news.
'Thanks for your insight,' one reader responded. 'I'm so tired of the negativity around this upgrade of the space.
'I like that they're incorporating the river & adding new water features to keep the same vibe,' another wrote on Facebook DW News Today shared the news.

Around every turn, you'll find colorful decor, an abundance of entertainment, special foods, and other magical details throughout the parks. The celebration runs from May 2025 to summer 2026, leaving a pretty big range of time to visit and enjoy the offerings. However, there is one specific window of time that you may want to consider as you're deciding when to visit, especially if you're a big Disneyland history buff! There is a set of new 70th anniversary additions that are opening slightly later this summer, including a new attraction! There is a small window of time in 2025 when you can visit and experience new additions with the full 70th anniversary entertainment, decor, etc., before the seasonal celebrations begin. We'll break down everything you need to know… READ MORE – On Disneyland's actual anniversary date of July 17, 2025, there will be three offerings debuting at Disneyland Park. The most major of these will be a new show featuring the first-ever Walt Disney animatronic called "Walt Disney – A Magical Life' debuting at the Main Street Opera House. The show will tell the story of Walt Disney's life through remastered footage and audio recordings, and at the end, we will see the Audio-Animatronics figure of Walt Disney in his office. Mickey Visit founder Gavin recently visited Imagineering to learn more about this Audio-Animatronic Walt Disney figure and why they are choosing to create it now. Disney says that this will be their 'most lifelike audio-animatronic ever.' This will be a super exciting new addition and a good reason to plan your trip after this date, so you can enjoy this and the rest of the 70th anniversary offerings before the seasonal celebrations begin (see more on this below, including the specific window!) Also debuting on July 17 will be a new gallery experience in the Main Street Opera House, called "Evolution of a Dream," which will feature images, art, and artifacts that show Disneyland before, during, and after Walt's dream became a reality. There will be another special exhibit in the lobby highlighting Audio-Animatronics technology, including Walt's inspiration and how the technology has evolved over time. There will be certain items on loan from The Walt Disney Family Museum, including original items from Walt Disney's private apartment, that have never been publicly exhibited before at Disneyland Park. And last but certainly not least, there will be a third verse added to 'it's a small world' in honor of Disney Legend Richard Sherman on July 17. This beautiful new verse and the debut of the Walt Disney Audio-Animatronics figure are doubtlessly going to have quite an emotional impact on Disneyland fans. These are all very fitting additions for Disneyland's actual 70th anniversary date. If you want to visit with the full 70th anniversary atmosphere and offerings before the seasonal celebrations kick off at Disneyland, then you'll technically want to visit between July 17 and August 21 this year. We say 'technically' because you'll want to actually visit a few days sooner than August 21 if you want to experience all of the 70th anniversary decor in its full glory, as this is when they'll start putting the Halloween decor up in preparation for the celebration's start date on the 22nd. The 70th anniversary decor will return in full force after the seasonal celebrations end, but this won't be until the holiday celebration ends in January 2026. When the seasonal celebrations kick off, we are assuming that the majority of the 70th anniversary decor will be taken down and replaced by Halloween decor. We will likely see some of the 70th anniversary decor remain in places like the castle, esplanade sculpture, etc. For both celebrations, certain entertainment offerings will temporarily pause for seasonal entertainment. For example, Paint the Night will continue throughout the year, but Wondrous Journeys will need to pause for the Halloween and Christmas nighttime spectaculars. Meanwhile, the Disneyland 70th foods and other smaller offerings like the MagicBand+ interaction points and Key to Disneyland scavenger hunt will likely be unaffected by the seasonal celebrations. Andrew Barth Feldman's Muppet*Vision 3D tribute is absolutely wonderful Since nothing lasts forever and the cruel specter of time claims all things sacred, Disney's Hollywood Studio will shut the doors to Muppet*Vision 3D after Saturday. After more than 30 years of "state-of-the-art" 3D effects and saluting all nations (but mostly America), Muppets maestro Jim Henson's last true masterwork will eventually be replaced with a Monsters, Inc. section of the park and plays its last show this weekend. While the attraction never got the consistent attention of, say, a roller coaster or a landmark dark ride, it's still one of the best experiences Disney Parks ever crafted. It's a testament to Henson's genius that it never lost its zeal in the decades since its opening, and there really wasn't ever anything quite like it to watch in a theater. Last year, I wrote that Muppet*Vision 3D is "a timeless piece of Disney history that should stand for as long as the theme park surrounding it stands, and closing it would feel completely antithetical to the way Disney treats its other classic attractions, with deep reverence and keen understanding of how awful it would be to snuff out that corner of irreplaceable Disney magic forever." Well, Disney Parks clearly didn't read that or, y'know, care, because the attraction is headed to the big theme park in the sky after Saturday's final shows. To help all of us cope with such a colossal loss, actor Andrew Barth Feldman crafted an absolutely brilliant tribute to the Muppets attraction that we know Kermit and the gang would be proud to watch. Seriously, this is just wonderful. Feldman teaming up with Defunctland's Kevin Perjurer to send off Muppet*Vision 3D with a hysterical bang is just the best way any of this could go We're going to miss Henson's great attraction like all get out, but we will fire this up whenever we need a smile... and the YouTube bootleg footage of the attraction itself, which you can watch below as many times as you'd like. RIP Muppet*Vision 3D. We will miss you, your cannon fire, your cranky old men in the balcony, your penguin symphony and your floating cream pies. Sweetums forever.

Coco Gauff gets French Open moment with Spike Lee hug after giving him ‘something to cheer for' after Knicks loss
No Knicks in the NBA Finals meant Spike Lee flew to Paris for a different American sports victory. The Academy Award-winning American filmmaker was in attendance for Coco Gauff's first Roland Garros title on Saturday morning, witnessing the 21-year-old take down world No. 1 Aryna Sabalenka 6-7 (5), 6-2, 6-4. Dressed in all white with a Yankees hat and sunglasses, Lee, with the occasional seat twitching during the competitive, two-hour and 38-minute match, stood up and cheered on Gauff to her second Grand Slam win. Gauff, 21, eventually fell to the ground as tears rolled down her face in victory, and before going up to her family and coaches' box to greet them, she stopped to see Lee. 'That was the first time I really met him up close,' she said. 'I've seen him at my matches at the U.S. Open, and when I saw him on the court today, I saw him when I was warming up. They panned the camera to him in the gym when I was warming up and I was like, 'Oh my gosh, Spike Lee is here.' And then I kinda felt bad because I usually put my towel in that spot, which is why I feel like he sat there. But because you know the lower-ranked player gets the other box, I put my towel in the other box.' With the victory, Gauff became the first American woman in a decade to win the French Open, since Serena Williams did so in 2015. She is also the youngest American to win the women's singles title since 2002, when Williams — at 20 years old — won the first of her three career titles in Paris.
