Florida restaurant employee arrested after customer shot to death over food order
People at a popular tourist spot in Osceola County were running for their lives Wednesday night after deputies say a Checkers employee shot and killed a customer over a fast-food order.
The restaurant remained closed on Thursday as crime scene tape blocked off the drive-through. Osceola County deputies arrested Elijah Mackey, 23, on Thursday in connection with the shooting.
'There were a whole bunch of cops here, like, it was scary,' said Jarisa Lindsey.

'It's just crazy. It's not that serious. It shouldn't be that serious where you get into an argument, then end up taking someone's life,' said customer Kelvin Lindsey. He ate dinner at the restaurant Wednesday and drove by later to see the crime scene.
'From every entrance there was more cops, and I'm sitting here like why they are here, what are they doing. Then when we got to this area this was a concentrated area where a lot of officers were at,' he said.
Osceola County deputies say an argument broke out between Mackey, an employee at Checkers, and a customer over a food order. That confrontation escalated to gunfire.
People working next to the Checkers say they heard gunshots, and everyone started running. They shut everything down for the night.
Mackey was taken into custody Thursday and faces a first-degree murder charge.
'People gotta change. Learn how to control your emotions. It's not that serious. A lot of things get escalated to that point because of misunderstandings,' said Lindsey.
Authorities identified the victim as Wesley Robertson.

Good Samaritan thwarts Georgia carjackings, holds suspect at gunpoint until police arrive
Police are investigating two attempted car jackings that happened Monday night in Marietta. Police say the first attempted carjacking happened at a gas station on Franklin Gateway SE. They say the second attempted carjacking happened at a nearby intersection. Officers said they arrived to 66-year-old Gary Edwards holding 32-year-old Rico Riley at gunpoint. 'We had what potentially could have been a tragic situation. We had an individual lurking next to a vehicle at a gas station the driver had gone inside the business,' said Chuck McPhilamy, Marietta Police Department Public Information Officer. 'He was waiting for her to exit as she attempted to get back into her car the fight began. Roughly a minute that they were in a severe struggle trying to get control of the keys and that vehicle. 'At one point she is in the vehicle he pulls her out then she gets in the vehicle he pulls her out this is a struggle.' >>> STREAM ACTION NEWS JAX LIVE <<< Police said the struggle between the victim and suspect probably went on for roughly one minute. 'We walked out of the restaurant. Heard a lady screaming across the street. We could see a car next to the gas station with its door open with this guy the suspect on top of the lady she was still screaming,' Edwards said. Edwards can be seen in a picture taken from security camera video, running to the gas station to jump in and help the victim. 'Knocked the suspect down and he got up at that point a little scuffle with me and then he started running,' he said. 'That suspect now leaves and runs out into traffic and attempts a second carjacking. that same good Samaritan runs out into traffic,' McPhilamy said. Police said a mother and her toddler were inside their car at an intersection when Riley tried to steal it. Edwards said his wife was nearby as he went after the suspect. 'I realized he's unarmed; I had no idea what he's walking into,' Anna Edwards said. 'We both have conceal carry permits and I had my gun in my purse. He had his in our other vehicle which we hadn't driven. I followed him across the road and pulled out my gun to give him something to defend himself should he need it. 'I got her gun at that point i took it into my own hands and made him get out of that vehicle and get on the ground,' Gary Edwards said. 'The suspect is behind bars and will face charges related to these crimes. the good Samaritan and that victim are ok because of their own choices. Certainly we applaud his efforts and are very grateful for the outcome we want to caution the public if you're not wired that way this may not have been the safest outcome for you,' McPhilamy said. Landscape supervisor turned hero: Man helps over 2 dozen people, pets escape apartment fire
They say not all heroes wear capes, and that is exactly the case with Cornelius Rainey. The people he helped save from a burning apartment complex in Hyde Park on Wednesday night agree. The Landscape supervisor was visiting his family at Riverbank Apartments on Wednesday, June 4, when he quickly realized something was wrong. 'I looked to the left and see fire, flames shooting out the building,' said Rainey. 'That's when I went and helped everyone out of their apartment.' >>> STREAM ACTION NEWS JAX LIVE <<< Around 4:45 pm Wednesday, JFRD responded to a fire at Riverbank apartments in Hyde Park. JFRD said the fire originated in a bedroom inside one of the apartments. The fire quickly spread to the attic, and as a result of that, JFRD told me they told JEA to cut the power off for the entire building. The state fire marshal is currently investigating the cause of the fire. Without hesitating, Rainey said he ran inside the burning building and began banging on residents' doors, telling them it was time to go. 'I was trying to kick people's doors in, burglary style, but it wasn't flying open,' said Rainey. 'And the doors that I didn't get opened, kicked in, it was people actually in those apartments, too.' [DOWNLOAD: Free Action News Jax app for alerts as news breaks] Rainey tells me he helped get 15 people and 3 dogs out of the burning building, including an elderly woman in a wheelchair. 'I was knocking on their door. It wouldn't open; I opened the door. She was sitting in the living room. Her husband was trying to get her out. And I just grabbed him. I said 'Move, man. I got her, I got her,' said Rainey. 'I grabbed her and rolled her out. And that's how she got out there.' I asked Rainey why he decided to run into that building. He said it was instinct. 'I just care about people. I was just helping everybody. I couldn't leave them in there. The building was shooting fire, like real big flames,' said Rainey. Rainey told me everyone he helped was extremely grateful to him, and he was just happy that everyone was safe. The Red Cross said it assisted a total of 34 individuals displaced by this fire. In addition, there are also other people displaced. Jackson was on her way back home from work on Wednesday when she got a call telling her apartment building was on fire and she needed to evacuate. 'When I walked up, I just see this black apartment complex,' said Jackson. 'I just moved in literally I haven't been here for not even a month yet. And everything I work hard for is ruined.' I spoke with Riverbank Apartment's Property Manager about what they are doing to help residents during this time. They told me everyone who was impacted by the fire can access their units, but they need to obtain an access pass through the city, which they have available if residents contact them.
