"Not far for Neeraj to cross 95 metres": Paralympic double gold medalist Sumit Antil
With world record holder Zelezny (98.48 m in 1996) by his side, Neeraj put an end to all talks around him crossing 90-m, touching 90.23 m during Doha Diamond League in May.
Speaking to ANI in an interview facilitated by Sun Pharma as a part of their #SecondBirthDate initiative, Sumit revealed his conversations with Neeraj and hailed him as the 'most consistent' athlete he has ever seen.
'Neeraj and I talk a lot. We talk regularly. When he touched the 90-meter mark, I told him that, finally, the biggest question in his life had been answered. Finally, Neeraj has achieved it. We had full faith in him,' he said.
'The athletes know that it is only a matter of days. It can happen any day. After so many times, 88, 89, and 90, it can happen any day. We knew that Neeraj has a lot of motivation from his journey. As an elder brother, we talk a lot. Mostly, we talk about sports. What are the next targets? What is the goal? We keep inspiring each other,' he added.
Sumit also said that Neeraj is blessed to have Jan, who he called as 'god of javelin throw' as his coach, who is an inspiration to all.
'As an athlete, it is not far for Neeraj to cross 95 meters. His technique is very good. I have been following him since 2017 when I joined Parasports and did a javelin throw as a game. I have seen positive changes in his run-up and other things,' he added.
Sumit hailed Neeraj's consistency, saying that once he touches 95 metres, he would not throw below 90 metres at all.
'I have never seen such a consistent athlete in javelin throw. His coach and Neeraj himself are the best. There are many athletes who have crossed 95 meters once but have not been consistent,' he concluded.
Chopra reclaimed his number one spot in men's javelin throw world rankings from Anderson Peters of Grenada following a string of brilliant performances on the international stage.
World Athletics updated the rankings earlier this week, increasing Neeraj's points to 1,445 compared to Peters' tally of 1,431, according to Olympics.com. Also, Pakistan's Olympic champion Arshad Nadeem sits at number four with 1,370 points to his name.
Neeraj lost his top spot to Peters back in September 2024, just shortly after the Paris Olympics, where he attained a silver medal with a throw of 89.45, and Peters took home the bronze.
The year 2025 has been incredible for Neeraj, as he kickstarted with a win at the Potch Invitational in Potchefstroom, South Africa, in April and followed it up with a very special second-place finish at Doha Diamond League, where he crossed the 90-metre mark for the first time ever with a throw of 90.23 m.
He also went on to secure a second spot in the Janusz Kusocinski Memorial in Poland later that month and resumed his winning ways with back-to-back titles at Paris Diamond League and Ostrava Golden Spike this month, with best efforts of 88.16 m and 85.29 m.
Neeraj Chopra Classic event at Bengaluru on July 5 will be his next outing. (ANI)

Amid outpour of sympathy for Shreyas Iyer, former India World Cup winner says team can win Asia Cup
The announcement of India's squad for the upcoming Asia Cup has led to some polarised reactions, as is usually the case whenever any team is announced for the country leading up to a tournament or series. Most of the criticism is centered around the fact that Shreyas Iyer hasn't been included despite scoring 604 runs at a strike rate of 175.07 in the 2025 Indian Premier League (IPL). However, there has also been a sense that the squad India have picked is briming with talent anyhow and former World Cup-winner Madan Lal has said that he feels they will win the Asia Cup. The former all-rounder, who was part of the team that won the 1983 World Cup, admitted that he is surprised by the ommission of Yashasvi Jaiswal but is happy that Shubman Gill has been selected. 'Sometimes you feel surprised that a player like Yashasvi Jaiswal is not in the team,' Lal told ANI. 'Gill is a good choice as he is performing well. In the coming time, it is possible that Gill will play in all three formats… The players who make the team win a match must not be left out. We have such a good team that we may win the Asia Cup.' Chief selector Ajit Agarkar said that Iyer is not at fault at all for missing the bus. 'It's unfortunate that Shreyas Iyer misses out. It's no fault of his, neither ours. He has to wait for his chance,' chief selector Ajit Agarkar said. 'We have got some serious options in T20 squad…sometimes not the easiest squad to pick but good headache to have,' he added. Along with the main squad of 15, the selectors also named 5 players as standbys but Iyer's name wasn't in that list as well. However, Agarkar said that this was not the final team for the upcoming T20 World Cup 2026. Iyer walloped over 600 runs for the first time in an IPL season in 2025, with his 175.07 strike rate ranking the best among all batters. He also clobbered 39 sixes as Punjab finished runners-up under his leadership. For India in 51 T20Is, the Mumbaikar has recorded 1104 runs, averaging 30.66.

Olympic champion Lin agrees to gender test for World Championships
Taiwanese Olympic champion boxer Lin Yu-ting will undergo compulsory gender testing ahead of the world championships in Liverpool next month, her coach told AFP on Thursday. Lin and Algerian boxer Imane Khelif were embroiled in a gender row at the 2024 Paris Olympics, where they both won gold medals in different weight classes. World Boxing said on Wednesday that women wanting to compete at the World Boxing Championships in Liverpool would have to undergo 'mandatory sex testing' under its new policy that took effect the same day. 'They announced that everyone must submit, so we will submit as well,' Lin's coach Tseng Tzu-chiang said. 'If you want to compete you have to follow the rules of the competition. Since we are participating, we will go by their rules.' Under the new policy, athletes over 18 who want to participate in a World Boxing-sanctioned competition need to take a PCR, or polymerase chain reaction genetic test, to determine their sex at birth. However, the International Olympic Committee (IOC) allowed them both to compete in Paris, saying they had been victims of 'a sudden and arbitrary decision by the IBA'. Both went on to triumph. Neither Khelif nor Lin are transgender women. Both were born and raised as women, which is how they are registered on their passports.
