An insider's guide to food and fun in Atlantic City this summer

New York Post11-06-2025
Nobody will mistake two nights in Atlantic City for a week in Las Vegas. But if you live in New York, have a gambling jones to satisfy, want to party on the beach, take in a show or two and would rather drive for a couple hours than fly for just under six, AC is a good bet.
And the entertainment is decent enough to build a weekend around. Highlights on the summer calendar include Tina Fey and Amy Poehler at Ocean Casino Resort on June 21, David Lee Roth at the Hard Rock Hotel & Casino on Aug. 8, and Black Keys at the Borgata Hotel Casino & Spa on Aug. 9.
More regularly, every Wednesday through Sunday, you can check out a bawdy variety show called 'the Hook' at Caesars Atlantic City Resort. There are jugglers who strip down to their jockstraps, a woman who does freaky things inside a balloon and an emcee who never seems to run out of smutty jokes. It's old-fashioned casino entertainment with good taste gone to hell — and the crowd loves it.
5 Take in dazzling bawdy variety shows like 'the Hook' at Caesars Atlantic City Resort.

A recent trip down to the Garden State's gambling hub begins with checking into the appropriately named Ocean, where floor-to-ceiling windows look out on the Atlantic. It's something that Vegas, even at its most derivative, cannot replicate.
Other good options for lodging: Borgata, which is as Vegas-y as Atlantic City gets, the Hard Rock if you want to recall your inner Eddie Van Halen and the Nobu Hotel, which occupies floors 42 to 44 of Caesars and aims to do for Jersey Shore overnighting what the sushi master did for raw fish.
First thing in the morning, a leg-stretching stroll down the boardwalk — passing the giant observation wheel, at the old Steel Pier where horses once dove into the water, and more taffy stands than you can count — followed by a quick sit-down at a blackjack table are called for. It's worth noting that during the early hours, limits tend to be the lowest of the day.
That said, as the minimum bets rise, it's time for brunch. Destination: Cardinal, which is the reigning non-casino gem of Atlantic City. Shimmering lights illuminate the bar and décor inside is farmhouse cool, Williamsburg styler.
Fittingly, paintings of cardinals abound. Tasty offerings — which can be eaten outside, accompanied by live acoustic music — include Korean duck wings, house-made veggie burgers and a New England Benedict with smoked salmon.
For something more along the lines of elevated bar food, Tennessee Avenue Beer Hall spins up burgers, pizza and kimchi fried chicken sandwiches. Taps line the length of one wall — Big Sal's IPA is named for the managing partner — and games of cornhole get competitive juices flowing in the yard.
For cheesesteaks, a local delicacy, White House Subs is king.
5 Ocean features big-name DJs.

Upcoming at Ocean are two offerings from celebrity restaurateur Stephen Starr. Chez Frites will be a bistro-style eatery where Paris-worthy steak frites promises to rule as a specialty. Next door, breakfast and lunch views are likely to get elevated in every sense of the word at Sunny's, which will serve comfort-food with a shimmering 11-story-high view of the Atlantic Ocean.
5 Not to mention rooms with stellar views.

When the sun is shining, HQ2 Beachclub at Ocean has big name DJs on the roster. This summer, revelers will wade into the pool to the sounds of Tiësto and Steve Aoki. On cloudy or cold afternoons, the MGM Tower at Borgata's 21-and-up indoor pool is the place to be.
And there are always rides via tram on the freshly launched Boardwalk Tours, helmed by local legend Mike 'AC Mike' Lopez.
While slowly motoring down the Boardwalk — trams top out at 5 miles per hour — he'll loop you in on the latest AC dish plus the true history of Nucky Johnson (fictionalized by Steve Buscemi, as Nucky Thompson in 'Boardwalk Empire') as well as local nightlife rogue Paul 'Skinny' D'Amato.
5 No one can pamper quite like the Hard Rock Hotel & Casino Atlantic City.
Hard Rock Hotel & Casino Atlantic City
If you're a guy in need of grooming, have Mike's side kick and top-notch driver Freddy Isaac drop you off at newly opened Hammer and Nails (the classic face treatment there will erase worry lines that might have popped during a bad run at the tables). Ladies (and men for that matter) can hit up Rock Spa and Salon at the Hard Rock for topnotch pampering.
Either way, be sure to ask Freddy for a White House tip: His favorite sub, which involves a cheeseburger, mayonnaise and hot peppers.
Non casino dinners are well handled by the Italian red sauce spot Angelo's and the Vietnamese mainstay Little Saigon. Staying in house tonight, we're enjoying perfectly medium-rare ribeye at Ocean Steak. The wine selection takes up an entire side of the restaurant, the double smoked bacon appetizer is a crowd pleaser and remember to order Jersey creamed corn on the side.
This haven of hearty fare also happens to be conveniently close to Fanatics Sportsbook, the Michael Rubin brainchild that opened last September and ranks among the best place in town for watching games. Giant high-def monitors cover the walls, an enthusiastic crowd piles in and betting opportunities abound. Bottle service is available upstairs (though it's no charge down below).
5 This boardwalk empire is loaded with top casinos like Borgata.
Borgata Hotel Casino & Spa
As the hour nears midnight, it's time for a binge of casino gambling at Borgata.
In the casino's brand new high-limit, baccarat-dominant, gaming quarters, the action is heavy and the energy level is pumped.
Gamblers shout 'Monkey! Monkey!' when calling for 10-value cards while high-rollers discreetly do their thing in private gambling dens. We ante up for a bit of baccarat — playing Banker results in a lower house edge — before heading over to pai gow poker. A woman at the table, with a tiny plastic duck on top of her chips, seems unable to lose.
Unfortunately, not possessing the duck or the luck, there is only one reasonable option: slip out the back of the baccarat room and into Noodles, the attached Asian food restaurant. Yes, a giant dinner was eaten mere hours ago. But the soup dumplings and Asian barbecue beckon. They are worth making room for.
With dinner number-two digesting, and gambling spirits buoyed, it's either off to one of AC's happening nightclubs — including Premiere in the Borgata, HQ2 in Ocean and Pool After Dark at Harrah's Resort – or else poker at the Borgata's well-appointed card room.
In the spirit of AC being a gambling town, a decision is made with the flip of a coin. Poker wins. So, it's shuffle-up-and-deal until breakfast, when it's time to chow down once more and start all over again.

Your Horoscope for Chiron Retrograde in Aries

Chiron, the comet associated with wisdom, is going retrograde in Aries on July 30th, 2025 at 10:42 a.m. ET until January 2, 2026 at 9:38 a.m. ET. If you aren't one of the headstrong and independent fire goddesses—aka an Aries, Leo, or Sagittarius—then you might not be so dramatically affected by this transit. Just on the basis of who the Fire signs are and what they represent will loudly resonate with the themes of Chiron in Aries. Simply put, this retrograde is all about reflecting over how you've taken initiative, reassessing your bets, and calculating risks. If you are interested in healing your (hyper) independence streak regardless of your Zodiac sign, this is an asteroid you're going to want to give close attention to. Chiron represents a wound that we may carry with us for our entire life. If you are willing and open to recovering from the ache that Chiron on your birth chart represents then you can turn what was your worst experience(s) into your greatest strength. Take someone with Chiron in Aries—this placement is all about wounds related to self-worth, identity, and the struggle to assert one's independence. Picture someone who grew up feeling like she constantly had to prove herself, who struggled with speaking up, or felt invisible in group settings. Maybe she was the girl who was told to 'be quiet' or was made to feel as though she should follow the leader instead of blazing her own trail, ultimately creating a deep wound around her right to take up space and be original. For someone with this placement, the journey often involves learning to transform that wound into unapologetic strength. People born during Chiron in Aries might become natural advocates for others who feel voiceless, or they could develop an uncanny ability to help people find their confidence. For example, Tina Fey, Taraji P. Henson, and Kerry Washington all share Chiron in Aries and are notable for moving tides and breaking ground within their career despite initial hardships or opposition based on their social identities. The very thing that once made them feel powerless—their unique perspectives and sensitivity to being dismissed or overlooked—becomes their superpower in recognizing and uplifting others who feel the same way. Of course, it's not every day that someone becomes an international icon, and I'm going to advise against trying to use astrology to figure out how to do so. Instead, I encourage you to study what Chiron in your chart means so that you can learn about others with that placement. Collectively though, this transit of Chiron in Aries tells a story about wounds relating to self, independence, and courage. When Chiron goes retrograde in Aries, it's time to turn inward and examine those deep-seated wounds around your sense of self. This isn't about being selfish—it's about honest self-reflection. You might find yourself revisiting moments when you felt your independence was threatened, when you were made to feel small, or when your courage failed you. For Fire signs especially, this retrograde period can feel particularly intense. Aries might find themselves questioning their natural leadership abilities, wondering if their assertiveness is actually just aggression. Leos may struggle with whether their need for recognition stems from genuine confidence or a wounded ego. Sagittarians might feel torn between their desire for freedom and their fear of being truly alone. Alternatively, if you have an independent streak this transit may be a time for you to reflect on how your self sufficiency might get in the way of self development. Sometimes we develop 'self made' mentalities because we're in a hustle to overcome survival. The will towards self improvement is understandable, but never let a badge of being 'community made' deter you from your next glow up. Perhaps the way in which you're required to take initiative during this transit is by letting people help you along your journey—no magnificent empire ways built in isolation. Because here's the thing about Chiron—the goal isn't to 'fix' yourself or eliminate the wound entirely. Instead, it's about learning to work with your wound, to understand how it shapes you, and ultimately, to use it as a source of wisdom and strength. s During this retrograde, pay attention to patterns in your relationships and career. Do you find yourself either completely dependent on others or stubbornly refusing help even when you need it? Both extremes point to the same Chiron in Aries wound—difficulty with healthy independence. Start small. Practice asserting yourself in low-stakes situations. If you're someone who always defers to others, try choosing the restaurant for once. If you're someone who never asks for help, try accepting a friend's offer to drive you to the airport. Notice the discomfort that comes up, and sit with it. That discomfort is your wound talking—and the first step toward healing is listening to what it has to say. Remember, your independence isn't about proving you don't need anyone. True independence is knowing you're complete on your own while still being able to connect authentically with others. It's the difference between isolating yourself out of fear and choosing solitude because it nourishes you. As this retrograde period unfolds over the coming months, you might discover that your struggles with independence have actually made you incredibly good at helping others find their own strength. People with Chiron in Aries often become natural mentors and coaches, not because they have it all figured out, but because they understand the journey from feeling powerless to feeling empowered. Instead of staying still or accepting the status quo, they live out their truth and become inventors of new careers and positions. As a collective, when we allow ourselves the ability to socially and spiritually develop we can naturally push for a world in which we want to live in. Whereas our past might lead us to feel stuck in a rigid and ill-fit position, our present reveals a more unpredictable and optimistic story. You don't need to be a perfect person to make a difference, nor do you need to have all the answers to be the change you want in the world. In life, our wounds don't just disappear—they have the potential to become our superpowers. Which is pretty much the Aries vibe you think of it: transforming pain into power, not despite your independence streak, but because of it. During this transit your focus has to be on yourself, Aries. Now may be a time where you may feel most comfortable throwing yourself into work or your fitness life, just be careful about over relying on what feels familiar or expected of you. Self reflection on who you are at your core and accepting that all you really have influence over is yourself may help you in regard to feeling more at peace with your life in general. Your personal growth is coming in the form of spiritual development and releasing the reins of control. You might feel as though it is tough to get in touch with your spiritual center, so much so you might not consider yourself a spiritual person. During this transit you're being welcomed into dreaming out loud, however your opposition is your willingness to trust your inner guide. Can you imagine success without practical proof that it exists? A headstrong approach to developing social relationships can make you someone who is both admired and received with disdain, Gemini. During this transit you're being blessed with the hard work of determining who you want in your dream team. Community and social relationships may not have always come easy to you, and Chiron retrograde in Aries is a great time to self reflect and consider where you've gone wrong so that you can turn right! There is very little success created without a willingness to take risks, and many of those risks may have left you feeling as though you've had to be more self reliant than normal. During this transit the wound that you are being called to turn your attention towards is how you could stand to let others support you through your career. As you are getting to new heights just know that you aren't on the journey alone, instead you'll find more success by appreciating how you're a part of a united effort. You're being presented with the amazing opportunity to reconsider how you expand your horizons. While you might feel a little stuck at this time, I urge you to recognize how you might be a contributor to your own indecision. With Saturn and Neptune also retrograde in the sign of Aries, you may feel yourself being unable to move forward because an idea hasn't met your expectations. Being able to release your singular version and considering how maybe how you think things should be is getting in the way of what you could do! What people may not fully understand about you is the weight in which you've had to carry in order to transform. Virgo, despite being an Earth sign, you are all-too-familiar with what feeling the world shifting and breaking at your feet feels like. You've grown the sense to recognize that each necessary change comes with a load of responsibility. Having learned to be someone who is independent came as a natural part of your growth, but gosh that doesn't mean it was easy! Enjoy this transit as a time to reflect on how you've grown: the sacrifices, the lonely moments, and the triumph. Oh Libra, the Chiron retrograde in Aries transit might be giving you mixed feelings. For you this transit brings up your need for tightly knit and reliable partnerships, despite your inclination to attract close relationships with people who lean towards independent streaks. Don't let past experiences with friends lead you to believe you can't tap into your social resources, Libra! Just because your friends and you are all running in different lanes doesn't mean you aren't all part of the same team—focus on appreciating and securing good relationships. Honestly Scorpio, I'm kind of in love with this transit for you. Despite not being a Fire sign, traditionally speaking, you share a planetary ruler with Aries which may make it easier for you to navigate through this transit. While Aries charges, you Scorpio, find you strength in strategic partnerships and intentional positioning. Continue developing your health care practices, exercise routines, and how you provide service to others. This transit can provide you with a deeper awareness of how consistent effort yields energizing results. What a beautiful time to develop how you participate in sacred play. Many of you may find that you're taking a break from certain activities or hobbies you formerly loved indulging in. Whether or not you choose to partake in them again is entirely up to you. What I can advise you based on Chiron retrograde in Aries is to consider how flirtations and 'fun' may have wounded your childhood expectations of yourself. Sometimes we hold values and beliefs from childhood in the back of our minds, even if they might not be appropriate for the adults we've grown into being. Oh Capricorn, with Saturn and Neptune in Aries and Chiron retrograde in Aries, you may have to undergo grief work before you can reap external rewards. This transit is lighting up the family and home sector of your birth chart, which may translate into needing to revisit past wounds regarding your home and family life. Is it possible that you're allowing a myth to continue to inform your lore and validity? Sometimes you have to see life more objectively than grandly in order to fully appreciate yourself. Is it possible that the story you tell yourself and others is spoken from the voice of someone who never needed to be so self reliant? At the beginning of Chiron retrograde in Aries, Mercury retrograde is occurring within the Fire sign Leo. Those transits poetically reflect how you strength during Chiron retrograde in Aries can be found in reflecting on and reclaiming your story. Sometimes we tell stories of survival, instead of fully healing for them. Take this time to think about how you've had to 'do' without adequate support, so that you can 'be' someone who better knows how to receive what you need moving forward. As someone who genuinely respects your independence and freedom to be a self starter, this transit may feel as though it is pushing you to work past current limitations. You may find that sometimes you desire to remain alone is a form of hypervilegence—have you allowed yourself to trust other people to give care to you Aries? Naturally, you are the decider of who actually meets your expectations based on your values. Enjoy this transit, as it is the perfect time to reflect on developing a healthy relationship with self reliance and leadership.

Toxic mother-in-law shocks livid bride by wearing inappropriate dress to wedding

Oh no, she didn't. When you marry someone — unfortunately, you also marry their family. Dealing with a monster of a mother-in-law after you say your 'I do's' is one thing, but having to put up with their shenanigans on the day of your wedding is another kind of evil. Advertisement That's exactly what happened to one bride whose mother-in-law wore an almost identical dress to her wedding gown. The livid bride took to the r/weddingshaming subreddit on Reddit to share her frustrating story. Underneath a blurred picture of the bride, groom and his mother in her matching dress, the original poster wrote: 'She cried LOUDLY the night before our destination wedding about how disappointed she was that her son chose me 'out of all his options.' Then proceeded to not sign the guest book or gift us anything, even a card.' Advertisement This mother-in-law had some nerve to wear an almost identical dress to the bride. Reddit / weddingshaming Sadly, this is not the first — and definitely won't be the last mother of the groom to be toxic and miserable for a bride to deal with. And based on the many responses in the post's thread, this bride is not alone. 'This happened to my BFF. It was a small wedding, too. They were not tears of joy. I remember her, in full traditional Korean hanbok, bright pink and blue, looking like the world was ending. All through dinner she was wiping her tears with her napkin. Her entire family ignored it.' Advertisement 'My grandma was apparently wandering around my parents wedding telling everyone that 'today is worse than the day the barn burned down.'' ''Didn't sign the guest book or send a gift' but she still showed up to make sure her triflin a– was in all the pictures in white no less.' Many women solidarity in sharing their unhinged mother-in-law stories. satura_ – As the saying goes, misery loves company. One woman posted a TikTok video asking others to share their unhinged mother-in-law stories — and the responses were wild. Advertisement 'Judges me for being a SAHM [stay at home mom] and 'using her son for money,'' one commenter shared. 'My MIL sits in my apartment parking lot and watches us through the windows,' another person revealed. 'She called me a murderer 3 hours after I gave birth to my stillborn daughter,' a shocking comment read.
