'After Kanwar Yatra, posters of miscreants will be put up', CM Yogi warns of action
Talking to reporters in Meerut, he said, 'We have CCTV footage of those trying to defame the yatra by indulging in vandalism. Once the Kanwar Yatra concludes peacefully, we will put up posters of these miscreants and take strict action against them.'
CM Yogi's remarks come amid a spate of incidents captured on social media where some 'Kanwariyas' were seen engaging in vandalism -- damaging vehicles, attacking individuals, and creating public nuisance.
The Chief Minister accused certain elements of trying to malign the religious pilgrimage both online and offline using false narratives. He urged every Kanwar Sangh and devotee to take responsibility for the sanctity of the Yatra, saying, 'Those who are trying to defame the Kanwar Yatra under the guise of devotees must be identified and kept away. It is our duty not to let them infiltrate this sacred journey.'
Highlighting the significance of Lord Shiva and the peaceful essence of the pilgrimage, CM Yogi reminded devotees of their duty to respect others and maintain cleanliness. 'The administration has made all necessary arrangements, but it is also the responsibility of every pilgrim to ensure that no one is troubled, and no place is dirtied during the yatra,' he said, while appealing to Kanwariyas to avoid throwing litter on roads.
'If anyone attempts to take the law into their own hands or desecrate the yatra, the police must be informed immediately. The administration is on high alert,' he added.
The Chief Minister also recalled how the Kanwar Yatra was neglected before 2017 under previous governments. 'Today, you have a government that respects your faith. Let's work together to ensure this sacred event remains peaceful and respected,' he said.

Kanwariya killed, 2 hurt after speeding truck hits bike
Kanpur: A Kanwariya was killed and two others sustained injuries when they were hit by a speeding truck in the Araul area of the city on Sunday night. Agitated over the incident, locals and other Kanwariyas blocked the GT Road National Highway, demanding action against the accused driver. The protest was lifted after police assured prompt action. The accident took place near the Kanpur-Kannauj border on the Kanpur-Aligarh highway when a truck hit a bike on which three Kanwariyas were riding and carrying holy water from Khereshwar Ghat in Ganga in Shivrajpur. Three pilgrims were injured in the accident. The police sent two of the injured to Kannauj hospital and one to Bilhaur Community Health Centre. After examining them in Kannauj, the doctors declared one of the pilgrims dead. Vipin Kumar, 28, a resident of Bhulbhuliyapur Prempur in the Chhibramau area of Kannauj, along with Pradeep Kumar, 30, and Vinay Kumar alias Nanhu, went to collect water from the Khereshwar Ghat in Shivrajpur on Sunday night. The police, upon arriving at the scene, sent the injured Vipin and Pradeep to Kannauj district hospital and Vinay to Bilhaur CHC by ambulance. The Kannauj doctors later declared Vipin dead. Meanwhile, after initial treatment in Bilhaur, the doctors referred Vinay to Kanpur. The family members who reached the district hospital were devastated by the pilgrim's death. The police sent the body for a post-mortem examination. ACP Amarnath Yadav said that the agitated Kanwariyas were pacified following assurance of prompt action into the case, while the truck involved in the accident has been impounded and efforts are underway to locate the driver. "A case has been registered and action will be taken based on the complaint," the ACP said.

In his address, Adityanath emphasised Saharanpur's deep spiritual roots, identifying it as the sacred land of Maa Shakumbhari and Mata Bala Tripura Sundari. He announced that the construction of Maa Shakumbhari University has been completed and its official inauguration will take place shortly. He further shared plans for the Maa Shakumbhari Corridor and an elevated road to improve all-weather access to the pilgrimage site. The CM said his government is committed to ensuring a balance between rapid development and the preservation of cultural heritage. Criticising previous regimes, he alleged that they indulged in caste-based politics and appeasement, dividing society along caste lines while limiting the benefits of government schemes to a single influential family. He said the actions of one family often brought disrepute to entire community. In contrast, Adityanath asserted that the current administration has reconnected Saharanpur with its historical identity and restored a sense of pride among its people. The chief minister announced that under the Smart City Mission, all municipal bodies at district headquarters across the state will be developed as smart cities. Highlighting the government's focus on youth development, he said a sports college is currently under construction in Saharanpur, while a sports university is being established in Meerut. Emphasizing the importance of sports in nurturing young talent, he remarked: 'Our youth will truly bloom only when they play,' adding that sports colleges will be set up in every division of the state. Highlighting the improved infrastructure in the region, he said the travel time between Saharanpur and Delhi has now been reduced to just three hours, thanks to enhanced connectivity. He noted that earlier, people had to travel to Lucknow to seek development, but now, he said: 'We are bringing development to you.' Adityanath praised the wood carving and furniture industry of Saharanpur, saying that with proper support from earlier governments, it could have achieved a global reputation surpassing even Italian furniture. Emphasizing the need to promote indigenous industries, he urged citizens to adopt Swadeshi products, asserting that doing so would empower local artisans and contribute to strengthening the economy. The CM announced that women will be able to travel free of cost on buses on August 8, 9 and 10 during Raksha Bandhan celebrations. He also emphasized the importance of cleanliness during the festive period, urging citizens to take responsibility for maintaining hygiene. Additionally, he called upon people to organize Tiranga Yatras and collectively sing the National Anthem on August 15, in honour of Independence Day. The CM further asserted that under the current government, India is achieving new heights of development while honouring its ancient traditions. Citing Malegaon blast case verdict, Yogi accuses opposition of ‘shielding terrorists'
1 2 Lucknow: Accusing opposition parties of "implicating innocent Hindus" while shielding actual terrorists in reference to the recent clean chit to the accused of the Malegaon Blast, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Monday alleged that Congress and Samajwadi Party repeatedly conspired against nationalists and were, in the Malegaon case, questioning the credibility of the country's constitutional institutions. "Will Congress ever apologise to the nation for its misdeeds?" the CM asked while addressing a public meeting in Meerut. He further said that the politics of Congress and SP was long centred on casteism, communal riots, and appeasement of mafia. Calling their approach to terrorism "soft", the CM demanded a public apology from Congress, stating that its politics rooted in casteism, riots, and mafia appeasement deeply harmed the nation. The CM was in Meerut to inaugurate and lay the foundation stone for development projects and participated in the bhoomi pujan of a Rs 2,517 crore Integrated Township project, spread across 295 hectares. The CM also provided financial assistance to young entrepreneurs, self-help groups, and housing scheme beneficiaries. Dedicating the township project to former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee, the CM announced that its name would be 'Atal Shatabdi'. Located near the Rapid Rail corridor, this project aims to offer affordable and sustainable housing to residents of the National Capital Region. "The township will reshape Meerut's urban landscape with integrated residential, industrial, and commercial facilities, along with schools, technical institutes, and medical colleges. The project is expected to generate employment for lakhs and establish Meerut as a new hub of development," he said. Elaborating on the development in Meerut in recent years, the CM said that earlier known for its 'Chor Bazar' areas like Sotiganj, it was now gaining international recognition for its sports goods industry, thanks to initiatives like Rapid Rail, the 12-lane expressway, and the One District One Product (ODOP) scheme. The country's first sports university, named after Major Dhyan Chand, is coming up in Meerut, he said, while the country's longest expressway connecting Meerut to Prayagraj will be completed by the end of the year, reducing travel time to Lucknow to just six hours. He also announced the commencement of survey work for the Meerut–Haridwar expressway and the integration of divisional offices under one roof as key developmental initiatives and announced new development projects as well, including the reconstruction of the Inner Ring Road and a new Circuit House. He urged people to purchase indigenous products over foreign goods to stop national wealth "from flowing into anti-national activities". The CM also announced that on the occasion of Rakshabandhan, women would be able to travel for free in state transport buses from Aug 8 to 10. He credited the govt's zero-tolerance policy for ridding Meerut of riots and crime and putting it on the path of development. "Eight years ago, Meerut was burning in the flames of communal violence. Today, it is surging ahead with infrastructure like the Rapid Rail and Expressways," he said. During the event, the Chief Minister distributed loans amounting to Rs 29 crore to 675 entrepreneurs under the Mukhyamantri Yuva Udyam Vikas Abhiyan. Financial assistance of Rs 64 crore was also extended to 881 self-help groups. Keys to homes were handed over to beneficiaries of the Mukhyamantri Awas Yojana, and farmers excelling in their field were honoured with citation certificates.
