Incoming Husker Alexis Johnson wins second straight Gatorade Player of the Year award
An incoming Husker added another Gatorade Player of the Year award to their trophy case on Monday, ahead of the 2025-2026 season. Pitcher Alexis Jensen won the Nebraska Gatorade Player of the Year for the second consecutive year.
Jensen led Gretna High School to a perfect 38-0 season and a 2024 NSAA Class A State Championship. She struck out 234 batters and allowed only 10 walks all season to finish with a 0.29 ERA and a 20-0 record. In the batter's box, she racked up a batting average of .549 and earned 47 RBIs and 10 home runs.
This capped off a stellar high school career for Jensen. She now holds four program records at Gretna, with a career batting average of .445, 83 career wins, 959 strikeouts and a 1.30 ERA.
Jensen also became a member of the Nebraska All-State team in 2023 and 2024, along with being named a three-time Omaha World-Herald All-Nebraska selection and two-time captain. She is the fifth Husker to be two-time All-Nebraska captain joining Peaches James, Molly Hill, Ashley Hagemann and Jordyn Bahl.

UNC adds to 2026 football recruiting class with Massachusetts offensive lineman

UNC adds to 2026 football recruiting class with Massachusetts offensive lineman The UNC football team's 2026 recruiting class continues to improve. Football players want Bill Belichick to be their head coach – and the North Carolina Tar Heels provide a perfect example of that. Since hiring Belichick in December, UNC continues to land recruits week-after-week. North Carolina secured its quarterback of the future in Class of 2025 recruit Bryce Baker, landed a plethora of defensive talent in the transfer portal and watched its 2026 recruiting class begin to take shape. The Tar Heels already have three 4-stars in their 2026 class: in-state defensive linemen Trashawn Ruffin and Zavion Griffin-Haynes, plus another quarterback in Loganville, Ga.'s Travis Burgess. Due to UNC's early success on the 2026 recruiting class, it has one of the highest-ranked classes across college football. On Thursday afternoon, North Carolina added another commitment to its next recruiting class, landing Belmont (Mass.) offensive lineman Nick Fiumara. Belichick and the Tar Heels made a strong impression during Fiumara's recent visit, because he committed less than a week later, according to InsideCarolina's Don Callahan. According to Fiumara's 247Sports recruiting profile, he is Massachusetts' seventh-ranked player – and the 74th-ranked offensive tackle nationally. UNC loaded up on linemen during its current offseason: replacing its entire defensive line, plus a pair of starters on the offensive line. North Carolina returns Austin Blaske, Aidan Banfield and Treyvon Green, bringing some much-needed protection for who'll likely be the Tar Heels' third different Week 1 starter – in three years. As he prepares for his senior campaign, Fiumara hopes to lead Belmont Hill School into the playoffs again – for a third-straight season. At this time next summer, Fiumara will already be in Chapel Hill, ready to prove himself worthy of a starting spot in the trenches. Iowa women's basketball among elite 2026 recruit's final four schools

Iowa women's basketball among elite 2026 recruit's final four schools Iowa women's basketball got big recruiting news on Thursday. Five-star, class of 2026 wing McKenna Woliczko trimmed her top 10 schools down to a final four, including the Iowa Hawkeyes among that final four. Iowa joins Ohio State, South Carolina and USC among the final four choices for Woliczko. The 6-foot-2 wing from Archbishop Mitty High School in San Jose, California, has been on the Hawkeyes' radar for some time. Woliczko took an unofficial visit to Iowa last October. An elite recruit in the 2026 cycle, Woliczko is ranked as the No. 6 player nationally by ESPN, On3 and 247Sports. According to 247Sports, Woliczko is the country's No. 2 power forward and the No. 2 player from California. On3 rates Woliczko as the nation's top shooting guard and as the No. 2 player from California. According to On3's Talia Goodman, Woliczko has set official visits to South Carolina on June 30 and to Iowa on Aug. 28. "I have a really good relationship with all the coaches. I talk to them a lot and I just love them as people and I could see them coaching me. When I went on Iowa's campus in the fall, I really enjoyed the girls. I feel like all of them were very chill, but also they want to get better and play great basketball," Woliczko told Goodman of On3. "I also really loved the campus. It kind of had that smaller college town vibe and I really liked that. Obviously, they have a big fan base. I think that's really cool to have, with all those people supporting women's basketball. I thought that was super cool." Woliczko is currently working her way back from injury. The Cali product suffered a non-contact ACL injury just days into the new year on January 4. Woliczko averaged 20.2 points and 10.3 rebounds per game during her freshman season and then 22.0 points, 8.0 rebounds and 2.0 blocks per game with Archbishop Mitty during her sophomore campaign. Woliczko's original top 10 also featured Florida State, North Carolina, Notre Dame, Stanford, Texas and Vanderbilt. Big Ten Network football analysts pick B1G order of finish. Where is Ohio State?

Big Ten Network football analysts pick B1G order of finish. Where is Ohio State? It figures to be an unpredictable Big Ten football season. Ohio State won the College Football Playoff national championship last year but lost 14 guys to the NFL, so there's a to of talent to replace. Heck, despite winning the ultimate prize, the Buckeyes only finished in fourth place in the conference behind Oregon, Penn State, and Indiana. The Ducks won the League in their first season in the Big Ten, but they, too, have to replace some key pieces. Indiana figures to take a step back unless we get some more of that unexpected Curt Cignetti magic, and while Penn State probably has the most returning talent, the Nittany Lions have yet to show they can beat the top of the conference consistently. We haven't discussed Michigan yet, but it should be better than last season if it can continue to build off of a great finish. We'll take our stab at predicting how the teams will stack up in the conference in our own time, but two Big Ten football analysts got ahead of the game by doing so already. Former Michigan tight end and Columbus area native Jake Butt joined Adam Breneman to pick the order of finish in the Big Ten for the 2025 season, and there were indeed some differences. Here's how Butt saw things playing out with the top half of the League, with a nod to the good guys: Breneman differed not only on the champion of the league, but elsewhere as well. Here's how he sees the top nine shaking out: Penn State Ohio State Oregon Illinois USC Indiana Michigan Minnesota Iowa If this rings true -- even with the second-place finish predicted by Breneman -- you can go ahead and pencil Ohio State into the College Football Playoff again. However, buyer beware because, as we know, predictions like these are rarely correct, and there will be a slew of surprises and disappointments coming this fall.
