AREC, ARCHIDEX Position Malaysia At Forefront Of ASEAN Real Estate
Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof said the events — held simultaneously at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre (KLCC) and Malaysia International Trade and Exhibition Centre (MITEC) — place Malaysia at the heart of regional collaboration, while showcasing ASEAN's urban development priorities to the world.
He said AREC drives high-level policy dialogue and strategic insights from housing ministers, city leaders and developers, while ARCHIDEX complements it as Asia's leading exhibition, showcasing cutting-edge products, materials and solutions for architecture and the built environment.
'ARCHIDEX attracts over 56,000 visitors from over 110 countries, providing AREC with an influential international platform to elevate ASEAN's real estate and housing agenda to a global audience.
'Ultimately, our goal is to support the development and publication of practical, actionable and impactful strategies that reflect the unique social, economic and environmental context of ASEAN's housing landscape,' he said in his opening speech here today.
Fadillah, who is also the Minister of Energy Transition and Water Transformation, urged industry players and stakeholders to seize the opportunity during the four-day event to showcase new and emerging real estate innovations, and to foster collaboration among industry players.
He said both events serve as a collaborative platform to address challenges in the housing and real estate industry, with the aim of building a resilient, inclusive and forward-looking sector.
'We believe in innovation, not as a luxury, but as a necessity for resilience and progress. From advancing green buildings and climate-adaptive design to deploying digital land systems and prop-tech (property technology) solutions, innovation must be the engine that powers our housing policies and urban strategies.
'It is how we make our cities smarter, our developments more efficient and our communities more liveable. I therefore call upon all ASEAN member states, our industry partners and international organisations to keep this momentum alive through working groups, joint research, investment facilitation and annual progress reviews,' he said.

Turun Anwar rally shows opposition lacks ideas, says Kamil Munim
KUALA LUMPUR: The upcoming 'Turun Anwar' rally reflects Perikatan Nasional's (PN) failure to present viable policy alternatives amid claims of economic mismanagement, according to Muhammad Kamil Abdul Munim, political secretary to the finance minister. He dismissed opposition criticisms as baseless, citing improving economic indicators. 'Growth, inflation, unemployment rates, investment volumes are being demonised because of hatred and greed,' Kamil stated in a post on X. He argued that PN's focus on protests rather than policy proposals highlights their political shortcomings. Kamil noted that while the government works on national development, the opposition has yet to propose a credible prime ministerial candidate. 'This is clear evidence of how they have failed to argue and propose alternatives to the various good policies that we have translated,' he said. Despite the criticism, Kamil affirmed the government's commitment to peaceful assembly, stating that Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim has ensured no intimidation by authorities. However, he questioned the rally's purpose, saying, 'Demonstrating just to hate Anwar Ibrahim physically shows how weak, shallow and inept their politics are.' - Bernama

Construction of second batch of LMS vessels on schedule, says Defence Minister
Defence Minister Datuk Seri Mohamed Khaled (centre) at the Istanbul Shipyard to survey the construction of the second batch of three Littoral Mission Ships (LMS) by Turkish defence firm Savunma Teknolojileri Muhendislik (STM). - Photo: Bernama ISTANBUL: The construction of the second batch of three Littoral Mission Ships (LMS) by Turkish defence firm Savunma Teknolojileri Muhendislik (STM) at the Istanbul Shipyard is proceeding according to schedule, says Datuk Seri Mohamed Khaled Nordin. The Defence Minister said the first LMS is expected to be launched next April, followed by the second in June 2026 and the third in August 2026. "The construction of the second batch of LMS marks the first procurement following the signing of the government-to-government (G2G) memorandum of understanding (MOU) for defence acquisitions during my official maiden visit to Turkiye in June last year. "The progress of this construction is definitely important because it serves as the benchmark for the new procurement approach by the government," he told reporters after surveying the ship construction at the Istanbul Shipyard here on Thursday (July 24). He was accompanied by Royal Malaysian Navy (RMN) chief Admiral Tan Sri Zulhelmy Ithnain and a delegation from the Defence Ministry. He said that after the vessels are launched into the water, they will enter a critical phase involving integrating various systems to be used on board, before Malaysia takes full delivery of the three ships by the end of 2027. He added that the procurement of the three LMS vessels will be followed by an Industrial Collaboration Programme (ICP), which has the potential to significantly impact the local defence industry, including through technology transfer that will be finalised by the end of this year. He said that Turkiye, before becoming a producer of defence products, also underwent a process of technology transfer from other countries before successfully developing its defence industry. "Malaysia has the same aspiration. Hopefully, the good bilateral relations and strategic collaboration between Malaysia and Turkiye can help propel the local defence industry, and at the same time, strengthen national sovereignty," he said. The second batch of LMS vessels for the Navy is based on the Ada-class corvette design developed by STM, which is equipped for multiple roles. Each of the ships will also be armed with ATMACA surface-to-surface missiles and air defence systems. Earlier, Mohamed Khaled attended the International Defence Industry Fair (IDEF) 2025, which is one of the world's prestigious defence exhibitions, organised by Turkiye's Ministry of National Defence (MOND) at the Istanbul Expo Centre. - Bernama

More Rahmah sales planned
PUTRAJAYA: Higher discounts for items sold at Rahmah sales (PJRM) are among the improvements being planned for the popular government-sponsored event, says Datuk Armizan Mohd Ali (pic). The Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs Minister said such sales will be held more frequently and expanded to more locations, while stocks of items will be increased. Armizan also said more retailers will be brought in as strategic partners, following the Prime Minister's announcement on Wednesday that the initiative will get RM300mil in additional funds. 'We are targeting 20,000 PJRM nationwide this year, covering all 222 parliamentary constituencies, 600 state constituencies and 40 zones in the Federal Territories. 'As of July 22, a total of 12,441 PJRM have been implemented nationwide,' he told reporters after inspecting a Rahmah sales event at the ministry yesterday, Bernama reported. Elaborating on the ministry's plans, Armizan said it will raise the minimum number of stock-keeping units per location to 30 from 20, based on local demand and seasonal needs, such as festive periods. He said more strategic retail partners will be engaged through Mobile, On-Premises and Off-Premises formats, and the sales schedules will be updated on the ministry's website. The ministry is also looking into increasing the quantum of discounts on items sold at these events to more than the current 10 to 30%. Armizan said the ministry will submit a report on this year's PJRM to the Finance Ministry in December to assess the programme's performance and impact on the public. He also thanked Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim for the people-centric initiatives, which were announced on Wednesday. Anwar announced that the PJRM allocation would be doubled to RM600mil this year to increase its frequency, expand coverage across all 600 state constituencies and offer a wider range of goods.
