PM Modi makes big statement on Online Gaming Bill, says new law to make India...
PM Modi- File image New Delhi: The Online Gaming Bill highlights our commitment towards making India a hub for gaming, innovation and creativity, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said on Thursday. The Promotion and Regulation of Online Gaming Bill, 2025, passed by the Parliament, takes a balanced approach — promoting what's good, prohibiting what's harmful for the middle-class and youth. 'It will encourage e-sports and online social games. At the same time, it will save our society from the harmful effects of online money games,' said PM Modi in a post on X social media platform. There are three segments of online games — e-Sports (training-based, often played between teams); Online Social Games (fun, educational, community-based), and Online Money Games (involve financial stakes, addictive, and harmful. Just like cricket or football, e-Sports require strategy, reflexes, and teamwork. 'The Bill gives legal recognition to e-Sports. The government will launch schemes and programmes to promote them,' according to Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw. Online social games like Angry Birds, card games and casual brain games are recognised as a safe way to interact and learn. The government will support game makers and creators – part of India's creator economy and software growth, said Vaishnaw. 'Online Money Games are prohibited. Youth and children addicted, families ruined. Massive fraud, credit card debt, even suicides. Money laundering and terror financing concerns. Misleading celeb ads giving false legitimacy,' the minister highlighted. He further stated that crores of families have been destroyed by online money games, and middle-class savings have been wiped out. Add as a Preferred Source 'There are thousands of complaints and grievances from across the country. The government chooses the safety of families over any other interests. When it comes to choosing between society's welfare and government revenue, PM Narendra Modi has always chosen middle-class families,' Vaishnaw said.

Ajay Singh re-elected as BFI president
CHENNAI: After several legal issues and power tussle within the federation, the long-awaited Boxing Federations of India (BFI) elections was finally conducted in Gurugram on Thursday. Incumbent Ajay Singh's reign will continue for a third consecutive term after a comprehensive victory over Jas Lal Pradhan, who was rivalling Singh for the president's post on the day. Singh, who is also the managing director of SpiceJet Airlines, garnered as many as 40 votes while Jas Lal fetched 26 votes. Pamod Kumar of Uttar Pradesh is set to take over the post of secretary general. Tamil Nadu's Pon Baskaran was elected as treasurer. Returning Officer Rajesh Tandon and BFI Interim Committee head Fairuz Mohammed of Singapore, representing World Boxing (WB) as its observer, were among those who present during the elections, that had face several hurdles in the past six months or so. However, WB president Boris van der Vorst and WB secretary general Mike McAtee, who were originally set to be the observers, did not attend the elections. Moreover, it is learnt that there were no observers from the sports ministry and the Indian Olympic Association (IOA) to oversee the polls. Speaking on the occasion, Singh said, "This victory is a reaffirmation of the trust and faith my colleagues from across the country have placed in me. It is not just a mandate, but a recognition of the relentless work we have done together to take Indian boxing forward. I would like to thank Mr. Fairuz Mohamed, Chairperson, BFI Interim Committee and Observer, World Boxing, for conducting a free and fair election. I also extend my heartfelt congratulations to all the newly-elected office bearers. With the World Championship and World Cup ahead, our singular focus will be on enabling our boxers to deliver their best, bring home medals, and make India proud." Despite the day's outcome, the results remain subject to the final ruling of an ongoing case in the Delhi High Court, where several state units have challenged the constitutional amendments introduced by the Interim Committee that had been looking after the BFI's daily affairs. That was done without the approval of the general body. With the elections out of the way, the focus will hopefully shift on the boxers, who are currently gearing up for the all-important World Championships in Liverpool. Olympians Nikhat Zareen, Lovlina Borgohain are some of the big names who'll be vying for medals during the said championships, which is scheduled to be held early next month.

PM to review Jodhpur, Pali, Marwar smart industrial township on Aug 27
Jaipur: Prime Minister Narendra Modi will review the Jodhpur, Pali, Marwar Industrial Area (JPMIA), one of the 12 smart industrial townships announced in the Union Budget 2024-25, on Aug 27. Tired of too many ads? go ad free now The township is expected to attract investments of approximately Rs 19,000 crore across sectors including solar component manufacturing, handicrafts, furniture, textiles, and heavy engineering goods. Sources said chief secretary Sudhansh Pant will attend the meeting to update on the developments within the township, which spans 3,600 hectares. RIICO, the implementing agency, has already acquired over 641 hectares of land, with the acquisition of an additional 1,086 hectares in the final stages. Recently, RIICO issued tenders worth Rs 465 crore for various civil works pertaining to the township's development. "Tenders for another Rs 200 crore will be floated in two months," an official said. The project's development is estimated at Rs 922 crore, with the Union govt sanctioning Rs 322 crore and approving a soft loan of Rs 105 crore. JPMIA is situated within the influence area of the Delhi-Mumbai Industrial Corridor and is 30 km from Jodhpur and 60 km from Marwar railway junction, along the dedicated freight corridor (DFC) extending from Dadri near Delhi to Jawaharlal Nehru Port Trust (JNPT) in Mumbai. "Today, goods from Delhi to JNPT take over four days by road. But the DFC reduces it to 24 hours. The industrial units in JPMIA will benefit from DFC as not only will goods reach faster, but the freight charges will be 40% less compared to road transportation," said RIICO MD Shivangi Swarnkar. Plans include developing a multi-modal hub near the industrial township over 280 hectares, providing access to road and rail connectivity. Tired of too many ads? go ad free now Of the 3,604 hectares required for the projects, RIICO needs to acquire an additional 2,000 hectares. However, it currently holds 600 hectares of govt land, facilitating easier transfer. The Union govt announced the projects in the 2024-25 Budget. Other projects nationwide include Khurpia in Uttarakhand, Rajpura-Patiala in Punjab, Dighi in Maharashtra, Palakkad in Kerala, Agra and Prayagraj in UP, Gaya in Bihar, Zaheerabad in Telangana, Orvakal, and Kopparthy in Andhra Pradesh.
