Report: Notre Dame to unofficially host 5-star Penn State commit in hopes of a flip

USA Today2 days ago
The recruiting battles between Notre Dame and Penn State continue, and this time it's the Irish attempting to flip a 2027 Nittany Lions commit.
Kemon Spell made his verbal to PSU in August of 2024, but according to a report by 247Sports Tom Loy, the 5-foot, 9-inch and 205-pound star running back will make an unofficial trip to South Bend when they host Texas A&M on Sept. 13th. That's not the only visit the country's No. 9 overall prospect according the 247Sports Composite will visit, as trips to see Penn State, Florida State and Alabama will happen during the season as well.
The report also states that Spell will try and make it out to a game against Ohio State, all of which means that he most likely could be heading towards flipping to another school. It will be interesting to see how this all plays out, but the Irish would love to have another 5-star prospect entering its program.
At the current moment, Notre Dame has three commits in the 2027 class, highlighted by quarterback Teddy Jarrard. We are sure that he'd love to see Spell in the backfield with him in South Bend.

Texas A&M lands commitment from the Lone Star Conference All-Defensive shortstop

After a rough 2025 MLB Draft, the Texas A&M staff had to return to the transfer portal to address depth needs in the infield. Coach Earley found a diamond in the rough within the Texas A&M University System. On Wednesday night, it was announced that West Texas A&M shortstop Elijah Batista will spend his final collegiate season in Aggieland. Batista played two years at junior college Western Texas College, where he batted .304 with 42 RBIs and 14 stolen bases in his final season before signing with the Buffs. He's an intriguing defensive prospect who earned Lone Star Conference All-Defensive honors in 2024 with a .951 fielding percentage, though that dipped to a concerning .938. With Maddox Latta opting to sign a pro deal, the Aggies needed to add talent at shortstop. With the help of Cliff Pennington, the hope is to coach up several players and let the best talent emerge. While Batista's defensive metrics slipped, his bat showed improvement. He posted a 2025 slash line of .293/.394/.494 with 40 RBIs and seven home runs. Batista is making a significant leap to Division I baseball in what many consider the toughest conference in the nation. If the staff can help him return to his 2024 form while bringing him up to speed, the sky's the limit. Texas A&M transfer Chris Hacopian dominates Cape League with Player of the Week nod

Summer league baseball has treated Texas A&M players well across their respective leagues. The Cape Cod Baseball League recently recognized an Aggie transfer as its Player of the Week. On July 27, third baseman Chris Hacopian was named the Cape Cod Baseball League Franklin Sports Player of the Week. He dominated against high-level competition, leading the league with nine hits and tying for the lead in total bases with 12. He slashed .500/.526/.667/1.193, racking up three RBIs and a stolen base with the Y-D Red Sox. Hacopian has been a standout all summer, ranking in the top 10 for hits (32), doubles (6), and triples (1). He also placed in the top 20 for RBIs (16), batting average (.274), slugging percentage (.393), and OPS (.739). These numbers bode well for Aggie fans eager to see another reliable bat in the 2026 lineup. Check out the official announcement from the Cape League's X account below. Shedeur Sanders' Madden 26 rookie rating revealed

Madden ratings for Shedeur Sanders and Dillon Gabriel are out 🫣🫣🫣🫣Shedeur - 67Gabriel - 66 EA Sports released its Madden 26 ratings on Wednesday, and while Travis Hunter was the top-rated rookie, where did his former Colorado football teammate and Cleveland Browns rookie Shedeur Sanders land? Sanders experienced an unprecedented draft slide and was not selected by the Browns until the fifth round, but he still ranks as Madden 26's No. 4 rookie quarterback. Sanders holds an overall rating of 67, which is higher than his Browns teammate Dillon Gabriel (66 OVR). The former Colorado star also owns a 78 speed rating, 65 strength, 81 agility, 79 change of direction, 94 injury and 58 awareness. It is mildly surprising to see Tyler Shough ranked ahead of Sanders, but with Shough's speed rating sitting at 84, the difference likely comes from that. Sanders will have a chance to improve his rating throughout the season, and so far during training camp, he has looked the part. Follow Charlie Strella on X, Threads and Instagram.
