Report: Notre Dame to unofficially host 5-star Penn State commit in hopes of a flip
The recruiting battles between Notre Dame and Penn State continue, and this time it's the Irish attempting to flip a 2027 Nittany Lions commit. Kemon Spell made his verbal to PSU in August of 2024, but according to a report by 247Sports Tom Loy, the 5-foot, 9-inch and 205-pound star running back will make an unofficial trip to South Bend when they host Texas A&M on Sept. 13th. That's not the only visit the country's No. 9 overall prospect according the 247Sports Composite will visit, as trips to see Penn State, Florida State and Alabama will happen during the season as well. The report also states that Spell will try and make it out to a game against Ohio State, all of which means that he most likely could be heading towards flipping to another school. It will be interesting to see how this all plays out, but the Irish would love to have another 5-star prospect entering its program. At the current moment, Notre Dame has three commits in the 2027 class, highlighted by quarterback Teddy Jarrard. We are sure that he'd love to see Spell in the backfield with him in South Bend. Penn State 5-star RB commit seemingly unswayed by UCLA visit Penn State seemingly received some good news on the recruiting front on Tuesday. Kemon Spell, a 5-star running back and the top-ranked player at his position in the class of 2027 according to the 247Sports composite rankings, was the first to commit to Penn State's 2027 class. As Pennsylvania's top prospect, Spell's recruitment has drawn attention from other programs, keeping fans eager for updates. Despite being committed to the Nittany Lions, Spell visited UCLA over the weekend. According to Rivals reporter Tracy McDannald, Spell came away impressed, saying 'it just took two days for them to get my heart." Despite speculation that the Bruins could flip his commitment, Spell made two posts on X on Tuesday seemingly confirming his pledge to Penn State. In response to a pair of Nittany Lion fan accounts claiming Spell will remain a Nittany Lion, he replied with the team's signature "We Are" slogan. There was previously speculation Spell would follow Ja'Juan Seider to Notre Dame after the running backs coach was hired away in February, but Spell ended those rumors when he claimed to be shutting down his commitment in an interview with Happy Valley United on March 29. Spell, a McKeesport, Pennsylvania, native, was in Happy Valley recently, attending Nittany Lions Camp to open the month. Though he's shown interest in other programs, Penn State still holds a commitment from one of the top players in the cycle.
