‘Suspicious' fire guts car repairs shop
The fire broke out at a factory on Glenville Drive in Melton about 2.50am.
No one was inside the premises at the time of the incident.
The business is Redline auto electrics and airconditioning. Its Facebook page with more than 600 followers shows custom jobs modifying often niche and retro cars.
Police said the fire caused extensive damage to the building.
A crime scene has been established, and the investigation is ongoing.
Police are urging anyone who witnessed the incident, has CCTV or dashcam footage, or has information to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or submit a confidential report online at www.crimestoppersvic.com.au.
Redline auto electrics and airconditioning did not respond to NewsWire's request for comment.

6 severed heads found by drivers on road in Mexico; message about revenge reportedly left at scene
Authorities found six severed heads along a road in a part of central Mexico where such extreme violence is rare, prosecutors said on Tuesday. The remains were first reported by drivers using a road that links the states of Puebla and Tlaxcala, the prosecutors said. Another head and other human remains were found in the western city of Colima, news outlets said Tuesday. The heads found in Tlaxcala were those of men, the prosecutor's office said as it announced an investigation into the crime. Local media said that at the site of grisly find there was a pamphlet blaming the violence on a settling of scores between gangs that rob fuel. Messages are often left on victims' bodies by cartels seeking to threaten their rivals or punish behavior they claim violates their rules. Both Puebla and Tlaxcala are to home to gangs that deal in drugs and fuel. But these states are new to this kind of extreme violence more common in other parts of Mexico, which is plagued by drug-related brutality. However in recent months bodies have been found in areas near the border between the two states. Extreme violence -- such as decapitation -- is more common in northern states and along the Pacific coast. Drug cartels operate in both. On June 30, authorities found 20 bodies along a road in northwest Sinaloa state, five of them headless. In April 2024, authorities in Mexico found seven bodies with five of them decapitated and another completely dismembered — with a message on each corpse — in a car left in the middle of traffic on a main expressway. In April 2022, the severed heads of six men were reportedly discovered on top of a Volkswagen abandoned on a busy boulevard in southern Mexico. According to local authorities, a warning sign was reportedly strung from two trees was also found at the gruesome scene. The month before that, six heads and other body parts were found on the roof of a car on the main street of Chilapa in the southern state of Guerrero. Around 480,000 people have died in drug-related violence around Mexico since 2006, when the government deployed federal troops to take on the country's powerful drug cartels. Another 130,000 are missing. Last week, Mexico sent 26 high-ranking cartel figures to the United States in the latest major deal with the Trump administration as American authorities ratchet up pressure on criminal networks smuggling drugs across the border. Earlier this month, Mr. Trump directed the military to target drug cartels in Latin America, a source familiar with the matter confirmed to CBS News. It's not clear if or when the military could take action. Mexico's President Claudia Sheinbaum responded by saying there would be "no invasion of Mexico."

Australia Post's cash-splash for EV delivery trial
Next time Australia Post turns up with your mail, you might notice a major change in the appearance of the delivery van. The government enterprise has announced the purchase of 36 electric vehicles from European luxury car manufacturer Mercedes-Benz, and each will be painted in familiar red tones, but with the addition of a graphic showing an electric plug and a sign that reads "I'm Electric". The purchase represents the largest trial of electric vans at this scale by the company, and is part of a plan to reach net zero emissions by 2050. With the popularity of online shopping continuing to grow, the company says it's important to become more sustainable. To help meet this target, each EV will be powered by charging stations owned by Australia Post that are run on renewable energy, which will be delivered via a mix of onsite solar panels, purchases of electricity, and the voluntary surrender of Renewable Energy Certificates. How much do the EV vans cost? eVito vans retail for close to $100,000 each, meaning a purchase like this would cost a consumer well over $3 million. But how much Australia Post's purchase actually cost the taxpayer is unknown, as it has declined to disclose the amount, maintaining that the information is "commercial in confidence". The vans were purchased outright from Mercedes-Benz and are now owned by Australia Post. The company did not disclose whether insuring these vehicles would cost more, and would only advise that it would be done under 'existing fleet management agreements'. 'The investment in electric vans is part of a broader package of sustainability initiatives supporting a reduction in our emissions as we target Net Zero,' its chief sustainability officer Richard Pittard said via email. In August last year, Australia Post announced it was deploying 175 electric motorbikes across its fleet and said they would be more agile than the three-wheel electric delivery vehicles it was already operating. Elon Musk may be banking on his UK energy plan to boost Tesla's fortunes
Tesla's (TSLA) recent announcement that the company had applied to the regulator Ofgem revealed how keen Elon Musk is to shake up the UK energy market. The EV maker's bid to power UK homes and businesses is not a complete surprise, given that the company has been active in the energy space for a while, albeit in Texas and Australia. Its dedicated division, Tesla Energy, launched in 2006 and has developed battery and solar energy products, among others, with varying degrees of success. Tesla's Megapack and Powerwall energy storage systems are among the more notable products but revenues in the energy division have fallen year-on-year, company filings show. Tesla did not respond to a request for comment from Yahoo Finance UK. Problems have piled up for the EV maker over the past year, from slumping vehicle sales to a fall in operating income. Musk's work for Donald Trump's administration, specifically the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) team, led to a bitter fallout with the US president and speculation that Tesla investors were unhappy with his foray into politics. Seeking to reassure investors that Tesla (TSLA) was his priority, Musk said in a second-quarter conference call that there were a "few rough quarters ahead" but the long-term outcome for the company was "very high". One potential bright spot is the $16.5bn (£12.3bn) chip deal that Musk said Tesla (TSLA) had signed with Samsung ( Tesla's UK energy plan may be less high-profile than some of Musk's other ventures, illustrated in the chart below, but if it manages to solve distribution problems within a constrained network, the move could prove a winning strategy. Scott Flavell, head of energy for global consultancy firm Sia, told Yahoo Finance UK: "Tesla's planned UK energy market entry, via Tesla Energy Ventures, is less about selling household Powerwalls and more about cementing a position in large-scale energy storage and grid flexibility. "Already a global leader in utility-scale batteries, Tesla sees an opportunity in the UK's constrained energy network, where bottlenecks in transmission are slowing the delivery of renewable generation to demand centres." Flavell added: "By combining its Megapack infrastructure with targeted renewable generation, such as large-scale solar in less-constrained areas, Tesla can store surplus energy during low-demand periods and release it when the market pays a premium. The retail electricity offer, while grabbing headlines, serves as a customer acquisition layer and a source of aggregated flexibility to feed into this bigger play." There are no guarantees that Ofgem will approve the application but if the plan does succeed, Tesla could gain the power-up it needs by becoming a big player in the UK energy market.
