Senior Armed Forces officers among 10 remanded by MACC in smuggling probe
The others remanded were two online portal journalists, a company manager, an administrative assistant at the Malaysian Medical Association (MMA) and a foreign woman.
Four male suspects have been remanded for Aug 20.
Another two men and one woman will be remanded until Aug 18, while two men and an Indonesian woman will be detained until Aug 15.
The remand orders were issued by Magistrate Irza Zulaikha Rohanuddin after the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) filed the application at a Putrajaya Magistrate's Court on Thursday (Aug 14).

Sources said the arrests, involving suspects aged between 30 and 55 years old, were made in the Klang Valley during 'Ops Sohor' conducted by MACC's intelligence division with the cooperation of the police on Wednesday (Aug 13).
"The senior military intelligence officers are believed to have colluded with the syndicate, leaking operational details to help them avoid enforcement action.
"The smuggled items included drugs, cigarettes and other goods from neighbouring countries, with an estimated value of RM5mil each month,' the source said.
The investigation, carried out over the past 12 months, found that the syndicate allegedly paid between RM30,000 and RM50,000 to the military officers for each smuggling operation. The officers' involvement was described as extensive and complex.
During Wednesday's operation, MACC also seized more than RM63,000 in cash, several packets of suspected drugs, weighing and measuring equipment, alcohol, and a replica firearm.
MACC senior director of Intelligence Datuk Saiful Ezral Arifin when contacted, confirmed the arrests, saying the case is being investigated for corruption and money laundering activities.

KUALA LUMPUR: The Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) and the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) are tracking a TikTok user who falsely claimed to be a surgeon involved in the post-mortem of Zara Qairina Mahathir. Communications Minister Datuk Fahmi Fadzil stated that the individual falsely asserted his presence during the procedure on Aug 10. The Health Ministry confirmed the person was neither a specialist nor a staff member. Fahmi said the TikTok user spread misinformation during a live session, misleading the public. The TikTok user has since set his account to private, complicating investigations. Fahmi warned the public against believing unverified social media content. Spreading false information is punishable by fines of up to RM500,000. Zara Qairina was pronounced dead at Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Kota Kinabalu on July 17. Indonesian man kills wife three months into marriage for insulting his parents
PONOROGO: A man has been arrested for allegedly killing his wife just three months into their marriage after she reportedly insulted his parents, reports said. According to Indonesian news portal the case came to light after police received a report of a woman's body discovered in Goa Lowo Forest, Sampung district, on Tuesday. Authorities later identified the woman, which led to the arrest of her husband. Ponorogo police chief Andin Wisnu Sudibyo was quoted as saying that initial investigations suggested the suspect became enraged by remarks made by his wife. The couple had been in an unregistered marriage for about a year and a half before formalising their union three months ago. "On the day of the incident, the suspect picked up his wife and took her to the scene. During the journey, they argued, and the victim allegedly insulted his parents, triggering his anger. "The suspect then slammed the victim against a tree before strangling her with a Wi-Fi cable found at the scene, leaving the body half-naked, and later took her jacket and mobile phone," Andin said. He added that the suspect later concocted a story, claiming the victim had been killed while trying to collect a debt. The suspect now faces murder charges and could be sentenced to up to 15 years in prison if convicted.
