The Animal star continued, 'Then he said he wanted Kareena Kapoor, so I arranged a meeting with Kareena through someone. But she also turned it down. After that, I talked to Preity Zinta and she said she wasn't interested at that moment. She said— I can't do it now, I'll do it later.'
Bobby then revealed he was 'kicked out' of the film and Shahid Kapoor and Kareena Kapoor Khan came on board.
What Imtiaz Ali said
While speaking to Lallantop, the filmmaker narrated his side of the story and said, 'I was planning to make Jab We Met with Bobby Deol. When I was making this film, Bobby and I were very good friends. His family… they are very nice people. But Socha Na Tha took five years to make and release. Meanwhile, I was trying to start a new film so Bobby was going to do Jab We Met. Then Socha Na Tha got over but I still didn't make the film for two years because I wanted Bobby to start it.'
He added, 'But he was getting other offers from big directors, so he was waiting for that to happen. He kept postponing my film, but then a time came when I didn't find it correct because a lot of time went by. Because I did Socha Na Tha for five years and I didn't do a film for two years after that, so it was putting financial strain on me. Then I told Bobby, 'Let's not make this film. Let's shake our hands and decide we will not do this film together because then our thing will be affected.'

Why Varun Grover criticised Anurag Kashyap for praising Sandeep Reddy Vanga? 'Kai badtameeziyan ki hai'

After the release of Animal, a divisive hit directed by Sandeep Reddy Vanga , Anurag Kashyap shared a heartfelt post on Instagram praising the filmmaker. Calling Vanga "honest," "vulnerable," and "lovely," Kashyap's comments stirred reactions from the film industry . Filmmakers Neeraj Ghaywan and Varun Grover responded critically in the comments—Ghaywan wrote 'Cringe' and Grover simply commented 'No.' Months later, Grover elaborated on the reasons behind his reaction during an interview with The Lallantop. Speaking about his comment to The Lallantop , Grover clarified that he did not object to someone defending a piece of art, even if it's politically incorrect or divisive. However, his issue lay in the fact that Kashyap's post did not discuss Animal or its content—it instead focused entirely on Sandeep Reddy Vanga's character. According to Grover, it was less about standing by a film and more about standing by a person who, in his view, has behaved poorly in public. Grover pointed to multiple instances where Vanga had engaged in aggressive exchanges on social media. 'Kai badtameeziyan ki hai,' saying he recalled that the director had once even criticized veteran lyricist Javed Akhtar, claiming Akhtar did not know how to write and lacked understanding of the craft. Grover described these comments as delivered in an unnecessarily arrogant and disrespectful tone. This behavior, he said, went beyond artistic differences and entered the realm of personal disrespect and social misconduct. Kashyap's Response to Grover's Comment After Grover's comment on the Instagram post, Anurag Kashyap personally reached out to him. Within half an hour of the comment being posted, Kashyap called Grover to discuss the issue. According to Grover, the conversation was constructive. Kashyap reportedly listened attentively and acknowledged Grover's perspective, agreeing that the criticism made sense. Grover appreciated Kashyap's openness and willingness to engage in dialogue without letting hierarchy interfere, noting that Kashyap's egalitarian approach sets him apart in the industry. Vanga's Reputation and Film Legacy Sandeep Reddy Vanga has gained a reputation for his controversial public image and the intense themes in his films. Animal, featuring Ranbir Kapoor, Rashmika Mandanna, Anil Kapoor, and Bobby Deol, was a massive box office success in 2023. However, the film also drew sharp criticism for its depiction of violence and misogyny. Despite the polarized response, a sequel is already in development. More recently, Vanga has been involved in another controversy over his upcoming film Spirit with Prabhas. Initially linked to Deepika Padukone, the project saw a change in casting with Triptii Dimri replacing her. Reports suggested that Padukone requested shorter work hours post childbirth, which led to her exit. Vanga's cryptic social media posts accusing Padukone of 'dirty PR' and leaking the film's plot further intensified industry conversations around his behavior.

Raveena Tandon's daughter Rasha Thadani REACTS to comparisons with Janhvi Kapoor, Suhana Khan and Khushi Kapoor: 'They've already completed...'

Raveena Tandon's daughter, Rasha Thadani, has garnered attention following her debut in Azaad. Addressing comparisons to established star kids like Janhvi Kapoor and Suhana Khan, Rasha humbly acknowledged their greater experience and expressed a desire to learn from them. Fans eagerly anticipate her next project, fueled by a recent hint at a collaboration with Abhay Verma. Rasha Thadani , daughter of Raveena Tandon , made a notable acting debut this year in Abhishek Kapoor 's Azaad, quickly becoming a fan favorite. As new faces, especially star kids, navigate the Hindi film industry, audience reception is key. Rasha had addressed social media comparisons to Janhvi Kapoor , Suhana Khan , and Khushi Kapoor , humbly stating that their greater experience means she has much to learn from them. In a resurfaced throwback interview with Filmygyan, conducted just before her debut film Azaad was released, Rasha addressed social media comments from fans. In the clip, Rasha reacted to comparisons with other star kids like Shah Rukh Khan 's daughter Suhana and Sridevi's daughters Janhvi and Khushi. The young actress went on to explain her reasoning, noting that her peers had already completed and released films, thus possessing more experience than her. She emphasized that she felt there was much she could learn from them, rather than viewing them as competition. As soon as the video of the old interview started doing the rounds on social media, comments poured in from all sides. While one social media user wrote, 'Beauty with brains', another one added, 'Bollywood ki next super star rasha hi hai'. Another user also commented, 'Rasha is much much better than suhana, Khushi, janhvi and ananya.' Abhay Verma and Rasha Thadani are set to star in Layka, Layki , a new action drama directed by Saurabh Gupta, marking his feature film directorial debut. Gupta, who also wrote Animal , helms this genre-blending narrative with a contemporary setting.

Imtiaz Ali Recalls Being Almost Arrested For Depicting Ratlam As Red Light Area In Jab We Met

Last Updated: Imtiaz Ali faced a non-bailable arrest warrant over Jab We Met's Ratlam scene, accused of defaming the town as a red-light area. Imtiaz Ali's Jab We Met (2007) remains a beloved Bollywood rom-com, celebrated for its charming leads, Shahid Kapoor and Kareena Kapoor Khan, and its iconic train station moments. Yet, beneath the film's lighthearted vibe lies a surprising legal controversy that nearly put the director behind bars. In a recent chat with The Hollywood Reporter and film critic Anupama Chopra, Ali revealed a lesser-known drama tied to a scene set in Ratlam, Madhya Pradesh, which triggered a defamation row. The controversy stemmed from a funny sequence where the lead characters end up in a seedy Ratlam hotel. While the scene amused audiences, it angered Ratlam locals, who felt it tarnished their town's reputation. Ali recounted the legal fallout, saying, 'The first time there was a court summons for me and then I had a non-bailable arrest warrant because of Ratlam ki Galiyan." He added, 'The chargesheet said that the town, erstwhile known for delicacies like chivda, fafda, and mixture, has been defamed by Imtiaz Ali being the place of red light." The accusation was that Jab We Met portrayed Ratlam, a town famous for its snacks like chivda and fafda, as a red-light district, offending the local community. The situation escalated while Ali was busy filming his next movie, Love Aaj Kal, in Kolkata. He recalled the panic when his producer, Dinesh Vijan, warned him about the arrest warrant. 'I was shooting in Calcutta when Dino [Dinesh Vijan] came running to me and said, 'Sir, there's a non-bailable arrest warrant and if they come to know you are here, they will come and arrest you.' I said, 'Yaar, just yesterday it was in the papers that we're shooting here.' And Dino said, 'Mera toh bohot loss ho jayega agar tu arrest ho gaya (I'll suffer a huge loss if you get arrested).'" Despite the controversy, Jab We Met continues to win hearts, proving its timeless appeal. First Published:
