Dera Sacha Sauda chief Ram Rahim granted 40-day parole
Singh will stay at his Sirsa-headquartered Dera during his parole, said Dera spokesperson and advocate Jitender Khurana.
Singh, who will turn 58 on August 15, was convicted in 2017 for raping two of his disciples. The Dera chief and three others were also convicted in 2019 for the murder of a journalist more than 16 years ago.
By the time Singh will return to jail at the end of his parole, he would have been out of prison for three months this year.
He was granted a 21-day furlough in April and a 30-day parole in January, ahead of the February 5 Delhi assembly polls.
He was granted a 20-day parole on October 1 last year, days before the October 5 Haryana assembly polls.
In August last year, Singh was granted a 21-day furlough. He was granted a three-week furlough from February 7, 2022, barely two weeks before the Punjab assembly polls.
Sikh organisations, like the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee, have in the past criticised the grant of relief to Singh.
On most of the 13 occasions in the past when Singh was out of jail, he remained at the Dera's ashram in Barnawa in Uttar Pradesh's Baghpat.
In May last year, the Punjab and Haryana High Court here acquitted Singh and four others in the 2002 murder of the sect's former manager Ranjit Singh, citing "tainted and sketchy" investigations into the matter.
Earlier, a special CBI court sentenced them to life imprisonment in the nearly 20-year-old murder case. It held Singh guilty of hatching a criminal conspiracy with his co-accused.
The Sirsa-headquartered Dera Sacha Sauda has a number of followers in Haryana, Punjab, Rajasthan and other states. In Haryana, the Dera has a sizable number of followers in many districts, including Sirsa, Fatehabad, Kurukshetra, Kaithal and Hisar.

Defence production hits record Rs 1.5 lakh crore, private firms' share up
Synopsis India's defence production has surpassed ₹1.5 lakh crore, marking a significant milestone fueled by increased private sector participation. The defence minister highlighted an 18% growth in FY 2024-25, showcasing the strengthening of India's defence industrial base. Defence exports also saw a surge, reaching ₹23,622 crore, reflecting a 12% increase over the previous year. PTI Indian defence production has crossed the ₹1.5 lakh crore mark, with private companies increasing their share in production and export of military systems, defence minister Rajnath Singh said on Saturday. Lauding the collective effort that led to an all-time high figure of defence production worth ₹1,50,590 crore, Singh said that the milestone is a clear indicator of India's strengthening defence industrial base. Officials said that in the 2024-25 FY, there has been an 18% growth over the previous fiscal's output of ₹1.27 lakh crore, and a 90% increase since FY 2019-20, when the figure was ₹79,071 crore. The numbers have been achieved as the government has gone on overdrive to promote Indian companies to enter the sector and has initiated programs like Emergency Procurement (EPs) that have given orders to a large number of startups and smaller companies as well. Defence Public Sector Undertakings (DPSUs) and other PSUs accounted for around 77% of total production, while the private sector contributed 23%. The share of the private sector has been steadily rising, from 21% in FY 2023-24 to 23% in FY 2024-25, and is expected to go up exponentially in the coming years as several big projects have been opened up to competitive bidding. Dozens of companies, from backgrounds as diverse as automobile component manufacturing to civil works have entered the defence manufacturing sector as opportunities grow."Both public and private segments of the industry have demonstrated consistent year-on-year growth, attributed to far-reaching policy reforms, enhanced ease of doing business, and a strategic focus on indigenisation over the past decade," officials said. There has been a surge in defence exports as well, with the figure growing to ₹23,622 crore in FY 2024-25, a 12% growth over the previous year.

Achieving goal in a war, ending it are very important, says Air Force Chief
Bengaluru, Aug 9 (PTI) Air Chief Marshal Amar Preet Singh on Saturday said terminating a war is very important and the goal is a key war principle which was achieved in Operation Sindoor. The objective of Op Sindoor was fulfilled and terrorists were taught a lesson, he said. Singh, who was delivering the 16th Air Chief Marshal L M Katre Memorial Lecture here said he participated in a conference in the UK about two weeks back. The participants discussed Russia, European war, or Israel and Iran war, or Hamas-Israel war. However, not even a word was spoken about India hitting terror targets in Pakistan following the Pahalgam attack. The Air Force chief said: 'They talked a lot about how to get a war, how to avoid war, but there was not even one talk about how to terminate a war." Also, he said: 'So I feel this part is being forgotten there. The conflict termination is a very, very important part of any conflict. We can't afford to be continuously at war." When a war starts, irrespective of who started it, it should be very clear that the war should be terminated so that people can go back to their routine and focus on the progress of the nation. 'When I was young the first thing that was taught to be principles of war was selection and maintenance of aim." People have shifted their objectives and aims every now and then. People have got down to their egos in this world, and that is what is continuously driving the conflicts going on in the world. He said: 'I think we set a very good example. Our objective was very clear. Our objective was to teach the terrorists a lesson that they will think twice before doing something, now they know what kind of price they can pay. And once we have achieved those objectives, we should look for all windows of opportunity to stop that, rather than just continue. We were actually on a song that night. I heard from so many people, I don't say that, but some people very close to me also said 'Aur Marna Tha'. Five Pakistani fighter jets, one aircraft taken down during Operation Sindoor: IAF Chief
The Indian Air Force (IAF) took down six Pakistan Air Force aircraft, including five fighter jets and one large aircraft, during Operation Sindoor in May, the Chief of Air Staff Marshal A.P. Singh said on Saturday (August 9, 2025). Delivering the keynote address of the 16th Air Chief Marshal L.M. Katre Memorial Lecture in Bengaluru, Air Chief Marshal Singh said, 'We have at least five fighters (jets) confirmed killed and one large aircraft which could be an Electronics Intelligence (ELINT) aircraft or an Airborne Early Warning and Control (AEW&C) aircraft which was taken out from a distance of about 300 km, which is the largest ever recorded surface-to-air kill that we can talk about.' This is the first time a senior officer of the Indian Armed Forces has officially confirmed bringing down Pakistan's air assets during Operation Sindoor. The Shahbaz Jacobabad air field, one of Pakistan's major airfields, was also targeted by the IAF during the operation, he said, adding that there are indications that there was at least one AEW&C in one hangar and a few F-16's in another hangar which were hit during the attack. 'Apart from these [aircraft], there are a large number of [unmanned aerial vehicles] UAVs and drones, some of whose missiles had fallen in our territory; we have recovered them. A lot of wreckage has been recovered, which is being studied so we can make out what they did, where they were launched from, what route they followed, what kind of systems they had, what generation they belonged to, what kind of features they had, etc.,' the IAF Chief said. He added that India's air defence systems had done a wonderful job, especially the Russian S-400 system which he described as a game-changer. During his talk, Air Chief Marshal Singh also shared 'before and after' images of the damage caused by the Indian air attack on the Jaish-e-Mohammad's headquarters at Bahawalpur, and the Lashkar-e-Taiba's headquarters at Muedike, both in Pakistan. He noted that, though the IAF had carried out similar attacks during Balakot airstrikes in 2019, it could not get images from inside the targeted buildings. He added that one of the reasons for the success of Operation Sindoor was the political will and the free hand given to the armed forces to carry out the attack. Following the remarks, the Congress party asked Prime Minister Narendra Modi why he stopped Operation Sindoor on May 10 and under whose pressure. 'In view of the new revelations made by the Air Chief Marshal Amar Preet Singh today, it becomes all the more shocking why the PM suddenly stopped Operation Sindoor on the evening of May 10th,' Congress leader Jairam Ramesh said in a post on X. 'Where did the pressure on the PM come from and why did he capitulate so very soon?' he asked. Meanwhile, Pakistan's Defence Minister Khawaja Asif claimed that no aircraft of the military was hit or destroyed by Indian armed forces. 'Not a single Pakistani aircraft was hit or destroyed by (the) Indian (side),' Asif claimed in a post on social media. 'For three months, no such claims were voiced - while Pakistan, in the immediate aftermath, presented detailed technical briefings to the international media...,' he added. He said the belated assertions made by the Indian Air Force Chief regarding destruction of Pakistani aircraft during Operation Sindoor 'are as implausible as they are ill-timed.' Asif claimed that the losses on the Line of Control for the Indian armed forces were disproportionately heavier as well. 'If the truth is in question, let both sides open their aircraft inventories to independent verification — though we suspect this would lay bare the reality India seeks to obscure,' he added. R.G. Meanwhile, Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami announced an immediate assistance of ₹5 lakh each to the next of kin of those killed and those who lost their homes in the disaster. He also announced the formation of a three-member committee for rehabilitation, overall revival, and strengthening of sustainable livelihood of villagers affected by the disaster. Chaired by Secretary (Revenue), the committee will submit its preliminary report to the government within a week. It will prepare a blueprint of a long-term and effective policy for the future of Dharali village, so that the safety and livelihood of the local community can be ensured. Inquiry by Law Department into alleged vote fraud, says Karnataka CM Siddaramaiah Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah said on Saturday (August 9, 2025) that the Law Department will conduct an inquiry into the issue pertaining to the alleged ''vote fraud'' during the Lok Sabha elections. Speaking to media persons at the Mysuru airport, Mr. Siddaramaiah said whatever action is possible will be initiated based on the recommendations of the department. He was responding to the media query on Rahul Gandhi's suggestion that the government should act on ''vote fraud''. Mr. Gandhi had alleged that 1,00,250 'fake votes' were created in Mahadevapura to ensure a BJP win in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections.
