The Saints finished 5-12 last season, their worst year since going 3-13 in 2005. New Orleans hired former Eagles OC Kellen Moore as the new head coach for 2025. The Saints have missed the playoffs in each of the last four seasons and now have the youngest head coach in the league in the 36-year-old Moore.
QB Derek Carr still has two years remaining on the $150 million contract he signed with New Orleans in 2023. The Saints went 5-5 in Carr's 10 starts last season but were 0-7 in the games he missed due to injuries.

They have six picks in the first four rounds, which includes two picks they acquired from Washington in the Marshon Lattimore trade last season. Bears cut could ties with new 26-year-old defender

The Chicago Bears made a handful of moves this offseason, but the biggest one was the addition of new head coach Ben Johnson. Johnson should be able to get the Bears offense in the direction they are supposed to go, but the defense also added a little help as well. Advertisement One player the Bears added to the defense was cornerback Shaun Wade, who has been in the NFL for the last four years. Wade spent time with the New England Patriots and Baltimore Ravens and has just signed a one-year, million-dollar contract with the Bears. Even though Wade hasn't played a snap for the Bears yet, there is a chance he could be moved before the season, and Ryan Heckman from Fansided thinks Wade could be a cut candidate. Follow The Sporting News On WhatsApp "Once a promising, highly-touted cornerback prospect out of Ohio State, Shaun Wade has fallen far from grace. After three seasons with the New England Patriots as a fifth-round pick back in 2021, he spent a couple of months last year with the Chargers' practice squad," Heckman wrote. "Now, he tries to prolong his career in Chicago at just 26 years old, but seemingly buried by other talent at cornerback." Advertisement Wade was supposed to be a high draft pick coming out of Ohio State in 2020, but after a down college football season, he fell to No. 160. Perhaps Wade will make the Bears' roster and attempt to get his career back on track. More NFL: Bears $50 million playmaker named most overrated player at his position

Commanders Urged to Sign Three-Time Pro Bowler to Add To Dan Quinn's Defense

Commanders Urged to Sign Three-Time Pro Bowler to Add To Dan Quinn's Defense originally appeared on Athlon Sports. The Washington Commanders' offense will be plenty equipped to make them contenders again in the NFC this season, but the defense - especially the pass rush - leaves a lot to be desired ... especially in an NFC East division where elite defensive lines are the norm. Advertisement Washington added solid defensive tackle Javon Kinlaw, but the edge rusher group is slim after losing a double-digit sack total in Dante Fowler Jr. after he jumped to the division-rival Dallas Cowboys in free agency. Dorance Armstrong and Clelin Ferrell are the current starting defensive ends. Although we are deep into the offseason, there are still multiple veteran defenders still seeking a new contract that could be an upgrade on the edge. Bleacher Report named the Commanders as a best landing spot for one of them: Za'Darius Smith of the Detroit Lions. "For the last decade, all Za'Darius Smith has done is be a productive pass-rusher with five different teams," Matt Holder said. "He's racked up 69 career sacks in 140 games, including nine with the Cleveland Browns and Detroit Lions in 2024." Advertisement Washington had the third-best pass defense last season, but that's expected to drop with the loss of its sack leader. The Commanders also got torched on the ground to the tune of 137.5 opponent rushing yards per game - third-worst in the NFL in 2024. Kinlaw will be a help here, but the Commanders should still be in search of someone who can fortify the edge in both the run and pass games. Smith's pedigree in stopping the run isn't great, but his addition could add depth and high-level experience along with his impressive sack totals. " ... The soon-to-be 33-year-old has never been known as a stout run defender and is getting up there in age, likely pushing him into a pass-rush specialist role moving forward," Holder added. "But a team that's in the market for a veteran who can contribute on third downs should at least kick the tires on the three-time Pro Bowler." Advertisement Holder also mentioned how the Commanders are in an advantageous point in their current history with franchise quarterback Jayden Daniels sitting on an inexpensive rookie contract for the next three seasons. It will be crucial to build around him with veteran pieces while they have the funds to do so, in what Holder says is a "push for a Lombardi Trophy". Washington is hovering around the middle of the pack with just over $20 million in cap space this offseason, but it's worth noting that a contract extension could still be in the works for disgruntled receiver Terry McLaurin, who has already held out of the Commanders' offseason programming. At the right price, Smith would be a valuable addition that strengthens what might be the worst defensive line in the division. Commanders Trade Rumor on Terry McLaurin Would Fail To Accomplish One Key Thing

Commanders Trade Rumor on Terry McLaurin Would Fail To Accomplish One Key Thing originally appeared on Athlon Sports. First, a very bottom line: Veteran wide receiver Terry McLaurin who had a spectacular season in 2024 for the Washington Commanders, is poised to do it again in 2025. Advertisement And he's poised to do it in Washington. But ... The two sides have still yet to agree on a new contract extension for the star wideout, who recorded 13 TD catches a year ago. So it has led many to speculate that the team will end up trading him. In a recent piece by Bleacher Report, a bunch of trade package ideas are pitched involving the Commanders star. One of the deals proposed would have Washington sending McLaurin to the Tennessee Titans in exchange for former first-round receiver Treylon Burks and a second-round pick in 2026. "Imagine if Terry McLaurin and Calvin Ridley were playing together,'' they say of the Titans angle. "On top of that, let's talk about Treylon Burks ... He was supposed to be the guy to replace AJ Brown that didn't exactly work out in Tennessee, but he still has enough physical talent, and enough upside that does exist in his profile to be able to buy into as a cheap option if you're the Commanders.'' Advertisement Well ... no. Jayden Daniels emerged as one of the best quarterbacks in the NFL in his rookie season, and McLaurin was a big part of that. He racked up just under 1,100 yards, and finished with double-digit touchdowns for the first time in his career. Burks is not a commodity. So this idea is essentially McLaurin for a second-rounder. That's not happening ... because the Commanders can win now and need to win now - and a future pick doesn't help that cause. Washington has expressed many times that they are eventually going to agree on a new deal with the star wide receiver, as he could be a key contributor in them making a run for the Super Bowl. So, the best bet? Advertisement Unless a far better concept than this comes across Washington GM Adam Peters' desk, a McLaurin deal in D.C. is what will soon "be happening.''
