Blue Jays Turn Heads With Trade Announcement on Wednesday originally appeared on Athlon Sports.
The Toronto Blue Jays returned to action on Tuesday, hoping to bounce back from a series loss to the Chicago White Sox, and they did, stomping the Cleveland Guardians 10-6 on the road, while boosting their record to 42-36. A 14-hit offensive outburst, including George Springer's 8th-inning grand slam and spark from teammates like Alejandro Kirk and Jonatan Clase, fueled the rout.

Starter Eric Lauer held Cleveland scoreless into the sixth, recording five strikeouts over 5.1 innings and earning his third win. Springer went 3-for-5 with four RBIs, and Kirk chipped in two RBI singles, as Toronto now shifts its focus to clinching the series on Wednesday.

Ahead of the return matchup, the Blue Jays took to social media to announce the acquisition of right-handed pitcher Robinson Pina from the Miami Marlins in exchange for another right-handed pitcher, Colby Martin.
Pina, 26, made his MLB debut last week with one inning of work and holds a 3.47 ERA with 54 strikeouts over 57 Triple-A innings. Martin, a 16th-round 2024 draft pick, posted a 1.54 ERA in High-A before the trade.
Fans have been reacting to this move.

"Wrong Marlins pitcher," said one.
"Solid move, let's see what Piña can bring to the squad!" one exclaimed.
"Interesting move, but you got the wrong Marlin," said another.
"He can't be any worse than the pitchers in AAA already," one added.
"Building trust with them so we can get Alcantara I like it," said another.
Standing third in the AL East, the Blue Jays trail the New York Yankees and Tampa Bay Rays, and will look to remain within touching distance of the top spot with a win on Wednesday.

MLB Sends Ronald Acuña Jr. Message During Mets Game

MLB Sends Ronald Acuña Jr. Message During Mets Game originally appeared on Athlon Sports. Atlanta Braves right fielder Ronald Acuña Jr. has been posting a dominant performance throughout the 2025 regular season, decisively eliminating any doubts about his return to peak form. Advertisement After his historic, unanimous MVP season in 2023, Acuña battled through adversity when he suffered a second ACL injury, missing nearly a year before returning last month—marking his comeback with a home run on his very first at-bat. Although the Braves currently sit at 35-41 and remain seven games away from a playoff spot, they have looked much more competitive since his return, winning seven of their last 10 games with the offense ranking in the top half of the league over that stretch. Atlanta Braves outfielder Ronald Acuna Jr. (13)Jordan Godfree-Imagn Images On Monday, after homering against Paul Blackburn of the New York Mets, MLB sent a message regarding Acuña's remarkable start to the 2025 season. Advertisement In addition to reacting to his homer, the league posted Acuña's stats over the last month, which include a .408 average in 98 at bats along with nine home runs, 16 RBIs, a 1.248 OPS, and three stolen bases. "Ronald Acuña Jr. has been crushing since returning one month ago today," the league wrote. Acuña, has become one of the Braves franchise stars after making his MLB debut in 2018 and winning Rookie of the Year honors, quickly establishing himself as one of the game's premier talents. In April of 2019, Acuña signed an eight-year, $100 million contract extension—the youngest player in baseball history to sign a deal of that magnitude—which secures him financially through 2028 and includes team options for the 2027 and 2028 seasons. Advertisement Since then, he has been a four-time All-Star, earned the NL MVP award in 2023, secured three Silver Slugger awards and cemented himself as a superstar, despite multiple ACL injuries. MLB Sends Jacob Misiorowski Message During Game Against Paul Skenes

MLB Sends Jacob Misiorowski Message During Game Against Paul Skenes originally appeared on Athlon Sports. Milwaukee Brewers starting pitcher Jacob Misiorowski made his major league debut on June 12th against the St. Louis Cardinals and immediately impressed with a hitless outing over five scoreless innings in a 6-0 victory. Advertisement Misiorowski committed to LSU but opted to turn pro after the Brewers selected him out of Crowder College in Neosho, Missouri, in the second round of the 2022 draft. Today, former LSU Tiger and No. 1 overall pick in the 2023 MLB Draft, Pittsburgh Pirate ace Paul Skenes, faced off against Misiorowski in front of a sellout crowd at American Family Field in a highly-anticipated matchup. Milwaukee Brewers starting pitcher Jacob Misiorowski (32)© Benny Sieu-Imagn Images Misiorowski outdueled the 2024 National League Rookie of the Year in a 4-2 victory, tossing five scoreless innings and striking out eight, while Skenes lasted just four frames and allowed four runs in his shortest outing of the season. Advertisement Afterward, MLB posted on X declaring, 'Jacob Misiorowski came to PLAY,' and posted the rookie's stats from his most recent outing. Misiorowski set a career high with eight strikeouts, and opposing batters are now hitting an absurd .030 against him. Through three starts, Misiorowski is 3–0 with a 1.13 ERA, punching out 19 hitters over 16 innings. He has also fired five pitches at 102 mph or harder this season, ranking fourth among all major‐league starters since 2008 including the postseason, per Statcast. The timing couldn't be better for Milwaukee. Last year the Brewers captured the NL Central crown, and this season they find themselves two games behind the Chicago Cubs atop the division. Milwaukee's current 18–8 surge over its last 26 games is the best stretch in baseball, and Misiorowski's emergence only enhances their push to reclaim first place. Pirates Make Oneil Cruz Move After Being Pulled From Brewers Game

Pirates Make Oneil Cruz Move After Being Pulled From Brewers Game originally appeared on Athlon Sports. Pittsburgh Pirates outfielder Oneil Cruz is playing in his fifth major league season for the team after his debut in 2021. The 26-year-old centerfielder burst on to the scene with his elite power and is responsible for the hardest-hit ball in the Statcast era at 122.9 mph. Advertisement He is under team control through the 2028 season, with 2026-28 serving as his arbitration years, so he will remain apart of the NL Central last place Pirates unless a trade materializes. The lowly Pirates have struggled this season, sitting at 32-49 with the league's worst offense—averaging just 3.3 runs per game—even with Cruz's efforts. Pittsburgh Pirates outfielder Oneil Cruz (15)© Rick Osentoski-Imagn Images In his final at-bat against the Milwaukee Brewers in the top of the seventh inning of Tuesday's 9-3 loss, Cruz grounded into a double play—and his lack of effort drew immediate attention. Interim manager Don Kelly confirmed he was pulled for a lack of energy and effort running to first, and declined to answer if Cruz would return to the lineup for Wednesday's game, per Pittsburgh Post-Gazette's Noah Hiles. Advertisement In a noticeable shift, Cruz was moved down to fifth in the batting order, four spots lower than his leadoff role that he held throughout June—marking the first time all season he has started a game this low in the order. On Friday against the Texas Rangers in a 6-2 loss, Cruz misplayed a single in center field, allowing a run to score and drawing criticism for not hustling after the ball. However, he stayed in the game, finishing 0-5 with two strikeouts. Overall, in 20 games this June, Cruz is hitting just .156 with a .479 OPS, one home run and 31 strikeouts—a drastic dip in performance.
