Director Shiladitya Bora forays into Odia cinema with 'Bindusagar'

(Picture Courtesy: Facebook) Film director-producer Shiladitya Bora on Thursday announced his foray into Odia cinema with an upcoming film, titled "Bindusagar". Featuring popular Odia actors Prakruti Mishra and Dipanwit Dashmohapatra, the family drama is directed by Abhishek Swain , best known for his acclaimed 2024 movie "Jajabara 2.0". Bora, known for films like "Picasso" and "Yours Truly", said he aims to take Odia cinema all over the world and hopes the film will resonate with people everywhere. "Odisha is producing some fantastic content in recent times; however, it's still underexposed to the audiences across the world. The Odia film industry is on the verge of breaking out, and we want to be one of the early movers when that happens. "We want to make a film that will appeal equally to the youth, the working class, as well as to the Odia diaspora living overseas. 'Bindusagar' is our vision of 'Made in Odisha, for the world," Bora said in a statement. "Bindusagar" is produced by Bora's banner Platoon One Films along with Vinay Reddy, Shubho Shekhar Bhattacharjee (Boundless Blackbuck Films) in association with Nikhil Chaudhry MDC Filmworks. Shot in Odisha and London, "Bindusagar" is billed as a story of love and tradition. "When a young woman's quest to discover her roots intersects with a grieving father's journey to faith, they find redemption and purpose in the ancient city of Bhubaneswar," the official logline of the film reads. Swain expressed gratitude to Bora for backing "Bindusgar" and hoped that the movie will turn out to be a "game changer" for Odia cinema. "Platoon One's entry can be a game changer for Odia cinema. With their deep understanding of local content for global audiences and distribution bandwidth, 'Bindusgar' may turn out to be the first truly global Odia film. We are super excited about the prospect of taking our film, culture and music to audiences worldwide," the director said. Also starring Robin Das and Satya Ranjan, "Bindusagar" will release in December this year.

Housefull 5 director blames viewers for focusing on ‘skin show, objectification of women' in the Akshay Kumar-starrer: ‘The plot is driven by women'

Housefull 5 is seeing the highs that most of Akshay Kumar's film didn't witness at the box office since COVID-19 pandemic. The film crossed the Rs 100 crore mark in India in just four days of its release. However, it has also sparked debate around the objectification of women and adult jokes in the film. Actress Soundarya Sharma has become the target of trolls for taking up a role full of 'skin show' and being reduced to an 'eye candy'. Now, the director of the film Tarun Mansukhani has reacted to the backlash and said, 'Scrutiny tends to happen on successful films.' In an interview with News 18, the filmmaker said there was nothing wrong in his film but people's mindset who only focus to see these aspects of the film with a certain eye for it. 'I feel like that there's a lot of scrutiny on social media. I also believe that scrutiny tends to only happen on successful films. You tend to keep quiet if a film isn't working at all. That's when no one has any opinion and they don't say anything. So, when people are making noise about my film, I actually feel very happy about it.' He added, 'It means that they're watching it with a certain eye and sensibility. You can scrutinise it. That's fine. You've paid money to watch it and so, you get to have an opinion on my film. It's not a placid film about which you don't care or have an opinion. For those who're calling it out, I want to say that it's your choice of seeing and focusing on that aspect of the film.' ALSO READ | Navjot Singh Sidhu says he put one condition regarding Archana Puran Singh before returning to Kapil Sharma's show: 'How can I be the reason of…' Tarun Mansukhani went on to claim it is a film driven by women characters. 'Akshay decides to play Jolly and he comes to know that there's a missing son. So, he hires the character of Nargis (Fakhri) and asks him to join him on this search. One thing leads to another and they decide to back stab together. It's Sonam (Bajwa) who backstabs Riteish (Deshmukh) and helps further the plot, that in turn helps bring a third Jolly. The actual plot is driven by women – to get the money. There's a Soundarya who's equal parts a suspect in this entire thing because she's busy transferring funds into an offshore account.' Further in his defense, the filmmaker said that none of his characters are flawless as they are all suspects of a murder on the cruise ship. 'They aren't placid characters. In a murder mystery, nobody is a good person. One may choose to see a sexist side to it but I feel that I have done a lot more. It's the audience's choice to focus on which ever aspect they want to.' Housefull 5 released on June 6 with two different endings. The film stars Akshay Kumar, Abhisehk Bachchan, Riteish Deshmukh, Jacqueline Fernandez, Nargis Fakhri, Sonam Bajwa, Sanjay Dutt, Jackie Shroff, Ranjeet, Dino Morea, Fardeen Khan, Chitrangada Singh, Johnny Lever and Chunky Panday, among others.

His love for acting and theatre not only shaped his career but also helped him meet the love of his life, . A theatre festival that changed his life Swaroop Sampat met Paresh at an Indian National Theatre festival. She had just finished school and was handing out brochures at the event. Her father was the chief producer at the time. Paresh and his college friends were performing a play at the same event. The moment he saw Swaroop, he knew she was the one. In fact, he told his friend Mahendra Joshi then and there that he was going to marry her. Even when Mahendra warned him that Swaroop was their boss' daughter, Paresh didn't back off. In a past interview with Bollywood Bubble he said, 'I was kind of 'Yeh ladki meri wife banegi'. My friend Mahendra Joshi was with me. He told me, 'Tujhe pata hai tu jis company mein kaam kar raha hai us boss ki beti hai woh'. Toh maine bola, 'Kisi ki bhi beti ho, behen ho, ma ho, main iske saath shaadi karunga'.' A bold proposal and a clear mind Paresh and Swaroop shared a love for theatre and acting, which brought them closer. While Swaroop was impressed by Paresh's talent on stage, Paresh couldn't take his eyes off her beauty. After a few months of dating, Paresh proposed to her in a very honest and straightforward way. But we got married after 12 years.' 12 years of waiting and love Even though Paresh proposed in 1975, the couple didn't get married until 1987 — a whole 12 years later. The reason? Paresh wanted to focus on building his career before taking on the responsibility of marriage. Swaroop, too, was clear about her own values. She didn't want to elope as she was the only daughter in her family, born after many years. She wanted her parents to be part of her big day. In an interview with The Free Press Journal, Swaroop shared that Paresh was always sure about marrying her. Since they were both Gujaratis, their families had no objections. Once Paresh's career was settled, the couple tied the knot in a simple and intimate ceremony, marking the start of their lifelong journey. A happy ending with no family drama Since both Paresh and Swaroop were Gujarati, their families had no issues with the relationship. Once Paresh's career was stable, the couple tied the knot in an intimate ceremony in 1987. They went on to have two sons — and Aniruddh Rawal — and have lived a peaceful and loving life ever since. Their story shows that true love can wait, and sometimes, even a dramatic declaration like 'Yeh ladki meri wife banegi' can come true with time, trust, and patience. Paresh Rawal QUITS Hera Pheri 3
