Tsunoda issues statement after exit Ryotaro Tsunoda has issued a statement to Yokohama F. Marinos fans after bringing an end to a frustrating 18-month spell at Cardiff City - during which he failed to make a single appearance for the first team. The 26-year-old defender joined the Bluebirds in early 2023, arriving with promise from Japan. However, he was never handed a competitive debut, failing to feature under Erol Bulut, Omer Riza, Aaron Ramsey or, ultimately, Brian Barry-Murphy. Tsunoda has now sealed a permanent move back to J1 League side Yokohama F. Marinos, the club where he previously impressed before his switch to the Welsh capital. The Yokohama side find themselves in the relegation zone upon his return and, in a heartfelt message to Marinos fans, Tsunoda admitted the return was not how he had envisioned his journey unfolding, but said he was determined to prove himself once again. 'Dear Marinos family, it's been a long time. I have recently decided to join the team on a permanent transfer,' he said. Article continues below 'This may not be the best timing or situation for either of us to meet again, so I can't proudly say, 'I'm back!' "I have thought a lot about the career I still want to pursue and about showing you all how I am making great strides overseas. However, given the current situation, I wanted to dedicate this moment to Yokohama F. Marinos, so I have returned with a strong resolve." The centre-back added: 'I will fight with all my heart so that F. Marinos can be F. Marinos, and so that they can be where they belong. I hope you will support me.' Tsunoda's departure means he leaves Cardiff without a single minute of senior football to his name, one of several overseas signings made during a turbulent recruitment period that failed to pay off. Cardiff have trimmed their squad considerably this summer following relegation to League One, with new head coach Barry-Murphy overseeing a rebuild ahead of the new season. Incomings are now expected to follow. Bluebirds hammer Wolves in friendly Cardiff's under-21s battered Premier League counterparts Wolves 5-0 in their final pre-season friendly. Two Cardiff Vertu Trophy fixtures confirmed Cardiff City will kick off their 2025/26 EFL Trophy campaign with an away clash against Exeter City at St James Park on Tuesday, September 16. The Bluebirds have also announced their second group-stage fixture, which will see them host Newport County at Cardiff City Stadium on Tuesday, October 7. Details for the third and final group game, against Arsenal Under-21s, are yet to be confirmed and will be announced in the coming weeks. Double Olympic champion Remco Evenepoel to ride for Red Bull-Bora-Hansgrohe from 2026
Double Olympic champion Remco Evenepoel has sealed a blockbuster transfer from Soudal Quick-Step to Red Bull-Bora-Hansgrohe, effective from 2026. His contract, which had been due to run until the end of 2026, has been terminated by mutual agreement to facilitate a move to the German team. Evenepoel's future has been one of the biggest topics of debate and gossip over the last couple of transfer windows. Ineos Grenadiers were reportedly interested in the Belgian in 2023 and speculation was rife that he would join Red Bull-Bora-Hansgrohe last summer, both rumours he denied at the time. However, the likelihood of an imminent transfer escalated after the Tour de France this summer as several members of the Red Bull hierarchy, including sports director Rolf Adag, departed the team, potentially paving the way for members of Evenepoel's entourage to take up new roles. Soudal Quick-Step released a statement on Tuesday saying: 'Representatives of Remco informed the team's management that he did not wish to discuss an extension of his current agreement, which expires at the end of 2026. After taking some time to consult with our sponsors and partners, the team's ownership and management have decided that it is in best interest of everyone to agree that Remco can move at the end of the current 2025 season. 'While we regret Remco's decision to leave, we will foster the memories that we have made and will continue to strive together to achieve some significant results for the rest of the season.' His new team shared the news in quite a different manner, saying: 'A new chapter begins for one of the most defining riders of his generation. Remco Evenepoel's arrival marks more than just a milestone for Red Bull-Bora-Hansgrohe – it is a clear signal. With renewed confidence and bold ambition, the team is setting its course to become one of the most attractive forces on the international cycling stage in the years to come.' Evenepoel claimed a historic double Olympic gold in Paris last year, winning both the time trial and road race, as well as the Vuelta a Espana title in 2022. He is arguably the best time-triallist in the world, with two world titles to his name, as well as victories in two Tour de France TTs, and is also an accomplished Classics rider with two Monument wins, both at Liege-Bastogne-Liege. He finished on the podium of the Tour de France last year but, having suffered a serious crash in training last December, was on the back foot preparing for this year's race. The Belgian abandoned after losing chunks of time in the Pyrenees, later revealing that he had raced with a broken rib. The 25-year-old turned professional with Soudal Quick-Step in 2019. The team had previously been more of a Classics-focused squad, and the news of this transfer suggests that Evenepoel believes he needs support for a Grand Tour bid from more of a heavyweight outfit. Red Bull-Bora-Hansgrohe have built up more of a Grand Tour-focused team in recent years, particularly since the energy giant came on board in 2024. However, Evenepoel's move means the Red Bull bus is increasingly crowded with Grand Tour contenders. Four-time Vuelta champion Primoz Roglic, who has also won the Giro d'Italia, has been the outfit's primary hope in the last two seasons. But the recent success of youngsters Giulio Pellizzarri and Florian Lipowitz, alongside the presence of former Giro champion Jai Hindley and podium finisher Dani Martinez, means there could be something of a battle for supremacy in 2026.

Neville, 50, was left in awe several times by the ingenious stadium. From a micro-brewery on site to links with Tottenham's famous past, no stone was left unturned as the Lilywhites built their new home. Here, SunSport takes a look around arguably the Premier League's best stadium. Kane's mega-box During his conversation with Neville, Levy was keen to show off Tottenham's plush VIP lounges. And where better to start than the one previously occupied by the club's all-time leading goalscorer prior to his £100million switch to Bayern Munich two years ago - complete with stunning kitchen, comfortable seats and an incredible view. Levy said: "This used to be Harry Kane's box." To which Neville exclaimed: "Jeez Harry! My mum and dad would have been happy if they were watching me at United and I gave them a box like this every week! While standing in the 17,500-capacity South Stand, Neville couldn't help but cheekily ask if there was anything Levy would have liked to have done differently, with hindsight. Levy, 63, beamed as he said: "There's a couple of pillars that I wish weren't there at the moment. Since opening, the venue has also been used for NFL games, rugby matches and several concerts, including the likes of Beyonce, Kendrick Lamar and Lady Gaga. Asked about how the surface "transforms" for different events, Levy revealed: "Underneath all the protective measures on the pitch is actually the NFL pitch. "There's an artificial pitch there. Then above this would be the grass pitch, and when we're in concert mode or NFL mode, the grass pitch goes under the famous South Stand. "It can stay there for up to 10-14 days. Located beneath the South Stand is an F1-branded go-karting track. The nifty feature has become a popular attraction within London. Within it is a 400-year-old listed building, which the club have restored and turned into an art gallery. Showing Neville around, Levy said: "There's a very old building called Warmington House. It's about 400 years old. Yep [it's listed]. "We had to keep it, we restored it... and it's now an art gallery. It's a beautiful building that we've completely restored." Neville was left in awe of the structure, replying: "It's brilliant. The Spurs chairman said: "Do you know about this floor? This is the old stadium." As Neville said "Oh wow," Levy continued: "All crushed. We wanted to have a link with the old, White Hart Lane and the history. "It's literally crushed concrete and smoothed afterwards." Levy takes great pride in the uniqueness of Tottenham's home - but does give credit to another club for the brilliant single-tiered stand. On inspiration for the new stadium, Levy said: "I wouldn't say there was one stadium that we said 'we need it to be like this'. "I think Dortmund in terms of our South Stand, the Yellow Wall. In awe, Neville said: "Dressing rooms never cease to amaze me now, how good they are. "Wow. I remember the old White Hart Lane changing rooms." When Levy said the new dressing rooms were a "bit different" from the old, Neville laughed as he said: "Just a bit!" The inner bowels of Tottenham Hotspur Stadium also feature huge NFL dressing rooms. Much bigger than the football changing areas, due to the size of NFL rosters, the larger dressing rooms came in handy during Covid, giving players an opportunity to social distance on matchday. 20 Neville was very impressed with Spurs' plush dressing room Credit: Getty Beer brewed on site Tottenham partnered with Molson Coors last month, confirming that Coors, Madri, Rekorderlig and Cobra will be on the menu at home games next season, as well as Pravha. Fans will still be able to get Beavertown products, brewed especially on site. Showing Neville the micro-brewery, located between the South and East Stands, Levy explained: "We're very conscious with what we do with the local community. "One of our ideas was to have a craft beer, so we teamed up with a company called Beavertown, which was a craft beer company that was based locally. "We then said to them that we would like to brew our own beer in the stadium. So this is our brewery, in a joint-venture with Beavertown." When Neville asked if Spurs had bought into Beavertown, Levy said: "We didn't buy into it... unfortunately" At this point both men laughed as Levy rued the missed opportunity. The Tottenham chief then added: "But we did a joint-venture, in terms of all the beer sold in the stadium."
