Former EastEnders actor and prolific theatre star Frank Barrie dies aged 88
The statement read: 'It is with great sadness that we announce the death of our beloved client, Frank Barrie, at the age of 88.
'He died peacefully at home, with his wife Mary and daughter Julia.'
The Yorkshire-born actor played Edward Bishop in the BBC soap from 2010 to 2011, his character was the leader of the local church choir and embarked on a romance with Dot Cotton, played by the late June Brown.
On the stage, Barrie was a member of Sir Laurence Olivier's National Theatre Company at the Old Vic, and was praised for his numerous Shakespearean and other stage roles, including The Woman In Black and Lunch With Marlene.
His one-man show Macready! played in 65 countries worldwide, representing GB at the 1982 Commonwealth Games Arts Festival in Australia.
Barrie also made more than 150 screen appearances, including in shows such as Emergency Ward 10, No Hiding Place, Softly, Softly, Special Branch, On Giant's Shoulders and Queen Of Swords.
In 1983, he played Eglamour in the BBC TV adaptation of Shakespeare's The Two Gentlemen Of Verona.
He also found success as a director on productions of Shylock, JM Barrie and The Life And Loves Of Edith Wharton, all of which toured internationally.
Barrie's writing credits include Wellington, The Family At Ham, The Devil You Know and The Other Woman, which was broadcast by the BBC, starring the late Dame Thora Hird.
The actor met his wife while attending Hull University, where he was president of the debating union.
Barrie died on June 30.

True story of socialite Claus von Bulow accused of trying to murder his heiress wife as scandal becomes TV series
Apple is working on a limited series about late socialite Claus von Bulow, who was famously accused of trying to murder his wife Sunny in the early '80s. According to Deadline, the prestige streamer already has British playwright Jack Thorne attached to the project. Thorne was most recently behind Netflix 's psychological crime drama Adolescence, which won universal acclaim from critics and became one of the most-watched Netflix shows of all time. The Danish-born Bulow was found guilty of the attempted murder of his heiress wife in a 1982 trial before being acquitted in 1985 following a second trial. The second trial was televised, making it the first major criminal trial in the United States to be broadcast live on television. He was accused of using insulin injections to try to kill the heiress so that he could get his hands on her $100million fortune, which she had inherited from her Pittsburgh utilities magnate father George Crawford, who died when she was just three. Mrs Bulow was first found unresponsive in one of the many bathrooms at their Rhode Island home while celebrating Christmas with her family in 1979. She slipped into a coma and was rushed to hospital, where she was miraculously revived. Doctors determined that the coma was the result of low blood sugar and diagnosed her as hypoglycemic. The following Christmas she was found unconscious again, but this time she had suffered severe enough brain injury to fall into a persistent vegetative state. The socialite ended up in a coma that lasted for the rest of her life, up until her death in 2008. In a sensational trial, her husband was accused of trying to murder her - being first found guilty, then dramatically cleared. Mrs Bulow's children from her first marriage to Prince Alfred von Auersperg hired private investigators to find out if Mr Bulow was behind what happened to their mother. He was charged in 1982, but released on $1million bail. Mr Bulow was found guilty in 1982 and sentenced to 30 years in jail. Just three years later, the verdict was thrown out and a retrial took place. Mr Bulow hired celebrity attorney Alan Dershowitz, who would later defend O.J. Simpson and Jeffrey Epstein, to get his conviction overturned. Celebrities took the stand to speak in Mr Bulow's defense, including writer Truman Capote, and a media firestorm ensued. According to Dershowitz, one prosecutor on the case said, 'This case has everything. It has money, sex, drugs; it has Newport, New York and Europe; it has nobility; it has maids, butlers, a gardener.' After being freed, Mrs Bulow's children had Mr Bulow removed from their mother's will and left him without a penny. Only the couple's biological daughter, Cosima, stood by him and he denounced any entitlements in favor of her being able to equally share assets with her half siblings. Mr Bulow was able to divorce Mrs Bulow in 1988, while she was still comatose. Their Manhattan apartment and Newport mansion were turned over to the von Auersperg children from her previous marriage. Dershowitz went on to write a book about the trial which was turned into 1990 film Reversal Of Fortune, starring Jeremy Irons as Mr Bulow and Glenn Close as his wife. The film was enormous hit, earning rave reviews from critics and winning Irons the Academy Award for Best Actor in 1991. After his acquittal, Mr Bulow moved to London and became a fixture on the social scene. He died in his London home in 2019 at age 92.

Keeley Hawes is a foul-mouthed James Bond in slick thriller The Assassin
The Assassin is a fast-paced thriller interwoven with family drama Kicking off with a high-energy opening sequence packed with fight scenes and cinematography that could rival a James Bond film, The Assassin certainly delivers, reports the Express. The six-part series centres around retired hitwoman Julie Green (portrayed by Keeley Hawes), who is reluctantly pulled back into the game for one final, potentially fatal job. However, there's a significant hitch: Julie's estranged journalist son Edward (played by Freddie Highmore) has decided to visit her for the weekend after four years, under the impression that she's a simple head hunter. What ensues is a thrilling, fast-paced drama intertwined with family dynamics as Julie and Edward truly reconnect. This series marks a distinct shift in pace for Hawes, who earlier this year portrayed Cassandra Austen in PBS and BBC's tranquil period drama Miss Austen. In fact, Hawes' last venture into Greek territory was as Louisa Durrell in ITV's heartwarming family series The Durrells, set on the picturesque island of Corfu. However, with her impressive performances in Spooks, Line of Duty and Ashes to Ashes, Hawes certainly has the action credentials to portray Julie convincingly. The Assassin sees her reunite with writers Harry and Jack Williams, following her appearance in the second series of their International Emmy-winning show, The Missing. Her on-screen partnership with Highmore is a match made in heaven as the contrasting pair compete in a battle of wits. The chemistry between the two actors is palpable, forming the beating heart of the show. Highmore effortlessly steps into the role of investigative journalist and vegan Edward, portraying his struggles while on the run with ease. The former child actor is no stranger to intricate on-screen mother-son relationships, having previously played a young Norman Bates in the modern Psycho prequel, Bates Motel. Other notable members of the cast include Jack Davenport, Alan Dale, The Tourist's Shalom Brune-Franklin, and David Dencik from Top of the Lake. However, this isn't your typical thriller - there's a wickedly dark strand of British comedy woven throughout the storyline. The sharp one-liners flow effortlessly between mother and son, showcasing the Williams brothers' razor-sharp writing skills. From Julie being dubbed a "menopausal James Bond" to Edward being cautioned that his search for his biological father "isn't Mamma Mia", The Assassin is loaded with as many witty remarks as it is with gunfire and expletives. Sometimes you'll find yourself uncertain whether to chuckle at the over-the-top scenarios, but the formula works brilliantly. The Williams duo have struck gold once more with The Assassin - this is a genuine winner. Whilst their previous series The Tourist delivered nail-biting tension, The Assassin balances the drama with considerable humour and wit, creating the perfect British action-thriller with a darkly comic twist.
