Jim Delahunt gives his big Rangers vs Celtic prediction as Ibrox side bid for third Old Firm win in a row

Scottish Sun03-05-2025

SIMON Murray's goal was enough to give DUNDEE a 1-0 win at Hearts last week and I'm backing Tony Docherty's players to pull further away from relegation play-off peril by beating Motherwell at 6/5.
Dundee's win in Gorgie was enough for the Hearts board to pull the trigger on hapless boss Neil Critchley and a 4th win in 6 games can be another massive step towards Premiership survival whatever the outcome of Ross County against Hearts in Dingwall.

The Staggies host the managerless Jambos off the back of 5 straight defeats which has them staring a third straight play-off in the face and Dundee have a huge incentive to go and beat the Steelmen whatever happens elsewhere.
The Dens Park side had beaten Motherwell home and away before a 2-1 defeat at Dens in February and while the visitors are trying hard to top the bottom six, Dundee can send nominated Murray off to tomorrow's Players' Player Of The Year Awards with another 3 points in the bag.
HIBS and ST MIRREN also make the top 5 from today's Premiership card but with the Chapionship settled last night and few attractive ties in Leagues One and Two, I'm off to England's lower leagues for the final two places in the Acca.
League One READING need Huddersfield to do them a favour by beating Leyton Orient but the Royals have to win their own game at home to Barnsley first and they look a good bet to do just that at 8/11 after winning their last two road trips at Mansfield and Bristol Rovers.
Leyton Orient may well hold on to that final play-off place by making it 6 straight wins at Huddersfield but they lost at home to today's hosts in November and the home side will be keen to end a losing run in front of their own fans for the final time this season.
BRADFORD haven't won any of their last 4 games as they've looked to secure the third and final automatic promotion place in League Two but they've drawn two of those matches and can finish with a much needed win over Fleetwood at 4/9.
The Bantams could falter and still go up if Wallsall's end of season collapse continues at Crewe but this is a glorious chance to get the job done at a banker price for Graham Alexander's players and the champagne is surely on ice at Valley parade.
Today's 12.pm kick-offs in the Championship are laced with tricky scenarios for punters to ponder but I'm going to suggest a treble with BRISTOL CITY, BURNLEY and SHEFFIELD UNITED all taken to win and pay out at better than 5/1 with most firms.
Bristol City need to beat Preston to be absolutely sure of securing a play-off place but the Robins have been in excellent form at Ashton Gate and relegation threatened Preston arrive after losing their last 4 matches by 2-1 margins.
Burnley are going all out for the title now that promotion has been secured alongside Leeds United and with the Elland Road side away to all but relegated but still battling Plymouth, defensively sound Burnley look rock-solid at 4/7.
Celtic fans demand 'build him a statue' after Daizen Maeda trolls Rangers during four-in-a-row title party
Sheffield United appear to be over their late season wobble as they're set to finish third and the Blades will want to maintain their winning mentality at 17/20 against visiting Blackburn after 2 wins and a narrow defeat at Burnley in their last 3 matches.
The home side can make sure they don't face Blackburn in the play-offs by ending Rovers' 4 match winning run today and that could leave the way clear for Frank Lampard's COVENTRY to secure that place by beating Middlesbrough at 11/10 although defeats for Millwall and Blackburn would make that task attainable with a draw.
European football has forced most of the key Premier League matches on to tomorrow and West Ham's match with Spurs strikes me as draw material at a general 27/10.
Manchester United's trip to Brentford and Liverpool's match at Chelsea look worth a swerve but NEWCASTLE should be firing on all cylinders in the 2pm kick-off at Brighton and look the Sunday best at 13/10.
Saturday SINGLE
CARLISLE have been relegated to the National League despite some excellent end of season results and I'm backing them to dent Salford's play-off hopes with a home win at 4/1.
Weekend ACCA
Dundee 6/5
Hibs 3/4
St Mirren 8/5
Reading 8/11
Bradford 4/9
5 homes across 3 divisions this week and the Saturday 3pm acca pays out at 23/1.
RANGERS V CELTIC Sunday 12noon Sky Sports
Rangers get one last chance to give their home fans something to celebrate this season but their home form has been awful for a while now and Celtic could be in the mood to pile on further Ibrox misery.
Rangers haven't won any of their last SIX matches at Ibrox since a 4-0 win over Ross County on February 2 and they'd actually lost a club record five in a row before their goalless draw against Athletic Bilbao.

Throw in the fact that Rangers haven't won ANY of their last 5 matches and you can see why Gers are available at 27/10 with my win selections CELTIC at 17/20.
HIBERNIAN V DUNDEE UTD
Hibs long unbeaten league run came unstuck at the 18th hurdle at Pittodrie last week but they're back at Easter Road against United where they've won 8 of their last 9 games.
I fancied David Gray's side to beat the Dons but they looked to be heading for a well deserved point when Kevin Nisbet produced his moment of magic and an appreciative Easter Road crowd can play its part here.
United found themselves hosting Celtic's title party last weekend but they might still be in the race for 4th if Aberdeen lose at St Mirren and HIBS can stay in the driving seat for third with a win at 3/4.
ST MIRREN V ABERDEEN
Saints landed my 14/5 draw tip with their 2-2 share of the points at home to Rangers last week and I'm backing Stephen Robinson's side to repeat November's 2-1 win here and make it 3 in a row after a 3-0 win at Pittodrie.
Mark O'Hara and Conor McMenamin scored successive equalisers for Saints against Rangers and a glaring miss from Mikael Mandron might have added another nought to the striker's new contract signed this week.
Nisbet will have to be fully shackled by Richard Taylor and Alex Gogic but Robinson's worked another miracle in getting ST MIRREN into the top six and the unshackled Paisley side can win this at a generous 8/5.
ST JOHNSTONE V KILMARNOCK
The Perth Saints have been holding up the bar in the last-chance saloon for weeks now but the win over Celtic was an oasis in the desert and today is surely a must-win.
St Johnstone have actually won 2 of their 3 meetings with Kilmarnock this season and current home form points towards this being a winnable fixture at a general 2/1 despite their current predicament.
Kilmarnock produced when they had to against Ross County last weekend but their road form has been desperate with 6 straight league defeats dating back to December and the home win looks the value.

‘It was carnage' – I slept in a SKIP the night I made Scottish Cup history with Hibs against Rangers

MADCAP footballer Jason Cummings has told how he slept in a skip the night Hibs won the Scottish Cup for the first time in over a century. Cummings, 29, was part of the Hibs team that defeated Rangers 3-2 at Hampden Park on Saturday 21 May 2016. 3 3 Victory ended a 114 year Scottish Cup hoodoo for the Edinburgh club and sparked unprecedented celebrations among their fans. The following day the team took part in an open top bus victory parade through the capital to their home in Leith. Cummings told the Open Goal podcast: "That group of boys was class. It was carnage. We were right on the bevvies and then we went out on a three or four day bender. "That's the best, after it when you're celebrating in the changing room. The parade was unbelievable as well after that -- just seeing the people, it was like 200-plus-thousand, it was unbelievable. "The night before that parade I woke up in a skip. I was out all night and I swear, see one of those nights where you're out on it non-stop and I mind walking past this skip. "And mate, I'm f****** shattered and I just jumped in there and fell asleep. "The sun woke me up and 'you've got the parade today'. I had to jump out the skip like that and get the suit on, straight back out. I loved it. "It (the parade day) was class. People greeting their eyes out, like 'never seen it in my life', 'you've made my life', 'you'll never need to buy a drink again'. "We were just heros. It was class. Really good." Cummings, who grew up a Hearts fan, became a hero at Hibs. He left the club for Nottingham Forest the following year and was sent out on three loan moves including a spell at Rangers. He also played for Dundee before a life-changing move to Australia. He currently stars for Indian Super League champions Mohun Bagan, based in Kolkata. The striker, who also plays for the Australian national team despite representing Scotland in a friendly, said he's loving life in India. He said: "I love it. It's a different world out there but football-wise it's a different class. "We get 60,000 or 70,000 every game, and the fans just love football. "When I first went I thought obviously cricket is massive there but we're in Kolkata and they just all love football... (I'm the) main man, bigger than the Beatles over there. Can't move walking down the streets." He added: "It's chaos, with the fans. As soon as we leave (the hotel) -- the stadium is right over the road -- it should be a five minute drive but it takes us an hour to get there. "There's flares -- I saw a ten year old on a horse with a flare going to the game." Despite a reputation for his exuberant behaviour, he said he enjoys quieter pursuits in India. 3 He said: "Lifestyle-wise there's not much to do. We'll go out for a wee game of golf with the boys but I play a bit of chess. I'm good at the chess, I love it. "There's so much time over there. When we go back after training we're just in the hotel so it's the same food, everyone is in there, the manager is in there as well, and all the coaches. "There's a tennis court there... a bit of poker. We go out and about but as soon as you go out and about you just get crowded, like proper. "Because there's not many tourists you stick out like a sore thumb. They see me, blond hair and all that, they're just on you for photos, photos, photos. "When my mum came over, she was like Joanna Lumley over there. She was getting surrounded, non-stop, you can't go anywhere. "It's a city of joy, Kolkata, but just so many people. "The maddest thing I've seen, just everyday... cows just going up the street, goats, stray dogs running on the training pitch and that." But he said India offered him something he wouldn't find anywhere else. He added: "It just came about, they were interested and they were proper wanting me. "I looked into it a wee bit and, I don't know, the fanbase and all that. "I saw the games and 60,000 or 70,000 I thought that's a bit me that. "I'll go over there and try it... just the atmosphere at the games, that they all love it over there, I just thought where else can you get that? "I wouldn't get that anywhere else."

Winger on Celtic's radar Celtic have been linked with a move for Anderlecht's Ecuadorian winger Nilson Angulo, according to reports in his homeland. Advertisement Hide Ad Advertisement Hide Ad Angulo, 21, has been capped three times by Ecuador and has been with Anderlecht in the Belgian Jupiler League since the summer of 2022. However, he has fallen out of the first-team picture in Brussels and is set to leave during this transfer window. Angulo is currently on international duty and played for Ecuador in their 0-0 draw with Brazil last week. He is being reportedly monitored by a number of clubs in Europe - including Celtic. The Scottish champions confirmed the arrival of Kieran Tierney earlier on Monday and are also said to be closing in on deal for 19-year-old Fulham striker Callum Osmand. Advertisement Hide Ad Advertisement Hide Ad Centre-half Porteous, 26, joined the Hornets from Hibs two years ago, but was loaned out to Preston in the second half of last season and faces an uncertain future under new head coach Paulo Pezzolano despite having two years of his contract left to run. Also out of the picture at international level with Scotland, Porteous is keen for first-team football and could be lured back north by his formative club, who are also working to keep another centre-half in Rocky Bushiri at the club. Ryan Porteous spent the second half of last season on loan at Preston. | Getty Images Hearts want Findlay Hearts chiefs continue to work on a deal to bring centre-half Stuart Findlay to Tynecastle from Oxford United. Findlay, 29, spent last season on loan at Kilmarnock under new Hearts head coach Derek McInnes and it is understood that the pair are keen to reunite for next season. Hearts want to sign defender Stuart Findlay. | SNS Group Cerny in demand Turkish duo Trabzonspor and Besiktas remain keen on bring former Rangers loanee Vaclav Cerny to the Super Lig. Cerny was a stand-out performer for Rangers last season after joining on loan from Wolfsburg. The winger does not have a long-term future at the German Bundesliga club and now that he has completed international duty with Czechia, the 27-year-old is set to focus on his next move. Wolfsburg are reported to have slapped a £9million price-tag on Cerny and both Trabzonspor and Besiktas are understood to be lining up bids for him. Advertisement Hide Ad Advertisement Hide Ad United sign duo United boss Jim Goodwin has got his summer recruitment up and running with the signing of striker Zac Sapsford from Western Sydney Wanderers and defender Iurie Iovu from NK Istra 1961. Australian hitman Sapsford, 22, who previously played in the United Kingdom with Chester, joins on a three-year deal – subject to both Scottish Football Association and international clearance. Moldovan centre-half Iovu, also 22, has signed a two-year deal with a further year as an option. 'He is a committed and fearless defender with an infectious level of controlled aggression when carrying out his duties, and boasts the ideal set of physical attributes to thrive in the Scottish Premiership,' said Goodwin. Dundee United have signed Australian striker Zac Sapsford. | Getty Images Killie confirm Brandon Stuart Kettlewell has made his first signing as Kilmarnock boss with Jamie Brandon joining on a two-year deal from Livingston. There have been a lot of clubs competing for his signature, so to get this over the line, we are extremely pleased.' Jamie Brandon has swapped Livingston for Kilmarnock. | SNS Group Livi land Carey Graham Carey has joined Livingston from St Johnstone as boss David Martindale gears up for the club's return to the William Hill Scottish Premiership next season. On the day that Livingston captain Jamie Brandon completed his move to fellow Premiership side Kilmarnock, 36-year-old Carey was confirmed as the second new addition to Martindale's squad. Callum Osmand can be Celtic punisher as Marco Silva gives Brendan Rodgers the key to unlock potential

Osmand is set to join the Premiership champions from Fulham as the Hoops take advantage of cross border transfers yet again Marco Silva has told Celtic how to get the best out of incoming new signing Callum Osmand. The Fulham starlet is set to follow in Moussa Dembele 's footsteps and make the move from Craven Cottage to Parkhead as the Premiership champions once again take advantage of cross border transfers for Under 21 payers. ‌ They will land the 19-year-old for training compensation and the Welsh youth international is understood to have already completed his Hoops medical. ‌ Cottagers boss Marco Silva rates Osmand highly, and promoted him to train with the first team and take his place on the bench towards the end of last season, although he wasn't given an English Premier League run out. And if the Portuguese's comments on Osmand are anything to go by, he will be disappointed to lose him, although the reason for leaving is exactly what Silva said the youngster needed after bringing him into the top team fold at Fulham. And he reckons a strike partner will allow Brendan Rodgers to see Osmand at his full potential further down the line. 'It's not his first time he's been with us," said Silva towards the end of the 2024/25 campaign. "Last season, he had some sessions with us, pre-season too, and the beginning of the season. "He is much more mobile [than a traditional centre forward], let's see if he is going to have a chance or not to play some minutes, but he is going to have a chance to train much more with us, to be much more involved with the first team. ‌ 'He needs more senior football in his legs to see how he can adapt, perform. He's got the profile that I like. When he has a chance, he can punish the opposition. "I can see the talent, in a position that is very difficult to play in the Premier League. Probably if you play another striker by his side … you will take the best from him. Let's hope we can help him to be ready for the Premier League.'
