Apple deal alert: The new AirPods 4 are only a buck above their Prime Day price

Yahoo6 days ago
Apple's AirPods Pro are great, no question. But if you're not a fan of those silicone tips, the just-updated 4th-generation AirPods 4 might be a better fit. They ditch the tips but keep all the essentials: crisp sound, water resistance, solid battery life and hands-free Siri. Right now, they're just $90 — only a buck above the lowest price we've seen. These are Apple's newest non-Pro earbuds, with Personalized Spatial Audio, a more secure fit and a MagSafe case with Find My.
AirPods are some of the most sought-after earbuds on the market, and this sale makes them a lot more attainable. While they sometimes dip below $120, this is the lowest they've ever dropped outside of Prime Day, during which they were only a dollar cheaper. (If these Pods are still too rich for your blood, check out our comprehensive review of AirPods Pro alternatives under $100 — there's something for everyone.)
If you don't like that feeling of having something wedged in your ear and don't need active noise cancellation (ANC), these buds are the way to go. They've gotten a bit of a makeover from previous generations. The shorter stem gives them a cleaner look, and the new quick-press controls mean no more fumbling to pause your tunes or take a call. Plus, they fit better and stay put, so you won't have to keep adjusting them while you're at the gym or running to catch the train.
I use an iPhone, iPad, iMac and MacBook Pro daily, so my AirPods rarely leave my ears. While their utility extends beyond the Appleverse — they also pair perfectly fine with Android smartphones or tablets, as well as Windows laptops and desktops — you do lose out on a lot of the features that make these headphones special.
AirPods 4 share quite a bit of tech with AirPods Pro, including an H2 chip, spatial audio, a wireless charging case with speaker (and USB-C charging port) and the new Head Gestures feature, which allows you to take or decline calls with a quick move of the head. And if you're caught in the rain or sweating through a tough workout, no worries — they're rated IP54 for dust, sweat and water resistance.
These AirPods have over 8,400 five-star fans, and over 10,000 pairs have been snapped up in the past month.
"I had some off-brand [headphones] that sounded AMAZING, but they never automatically connected and were less of an easy experience," recalled a would-be bargain hunter. "The AirPods just WORK the way you expect them to, which I missed, and am so glad I have again."
"I never understood the hype around expensive earbuds and always stuck with cheaper ones," began one convert, "but my husband got me these AirPods for Christmas, and now I get it! These are a total game-changer. They're super comfortable and don't hurt my ears, even after wearing them for long periods. The sound quality is amazing, and the personalized spatial audio makes everything sound so immersive."
Said this five-star fan: "The lightweight earbuds sit comfortably in your ears for extended listening sessions, and the intuitive controls make it easy to adjust volume, skip tracks and activate Siri. ... If you're an Apple user looking for a seamless audio experience, these earbuds are definitely worth considering."
I concur with this "con"-trary customer's quibble: "I think that it's very cheap of Apple that they don't include the proper charging cable or the USB plug. Apple products are so expensive; you should be able to use the products immediately. Instead, I have to go pay more to get a charging cable."
I'll give the last word to Yahoo Senior Tech Writer Rick Broida, who cautioned: "It ... bears mentioning that Android users are almost certainly better off with something other than AirPods, which would serve as little more than 'dumb' earbuds when paired with those phones." (Check out Rick's full review of the ANC Apple AirPods 4 here.)
If you want a bit more battery life and a more customized fit, AirPods Pro might be your answer.
If you have Amazon Prime, you'll get free shipping, of course. Not yet a member? No problem. You can sign up for your free 30-day trial here. (And by the way, those without Prime still get free shipping on orders of $35 or more.)

New Glenn rocket all set for grand mission on only its second launch

Blue Origin has officially announced that its next-generation New Glenn rocket will launch NASA's ESCAPADE Mars mission in a flight targeted for no earlier than mid-August 2025. Lifting off from Cape Canaveral in Florida, NASA's ESCAPADE mission to the red planet will achieve several notable milestones, including becoming the first multi-spacecraft orbital science mission sent to Mars. Two spacecraft, called Blue and Gold, will orbit the distant planet while conducting coordinated, simultaneous observations of Mars's magnetic field as it interacts with the solar wind and drives the escape of elements from Mars' very thin atmosphere into space. Recommended Videos It'll also be the first interplanetary mission for the New Glenn rocket, whose inaugural flight earlier this year involved the deployment of a prototype spacecraft to medium-Earth orbit. Additionally, we'll see Blue Origin attempt to land New Glenn's first-stage booster for the first time, similar to how SpaceX brings home its workhorse Falcon 9 rocket minutes after deploying satellites to space or sending astronauts to orbit. A successful landing would put the New Glenn on a path to first-stage reusability, enabling it to cut costs and increase launch frequency with its heavy-lift rocket. New Glenn's inaugural flight took place in January 2025 and while the rocket successfully reached orbit and deployed its payload, the first-stage booster was lost during descent and so had no chance of attempting a propulsive landing. Blue Origin's 98-meter-tall rocket is powered by seven BE-4 engines that together create almost 4 million pounds of thrust as the vehicle leaves the launchpad, making it around 2.5 times more powerful than the Falcon 9. Adding extra buzz to the mission is the fact that it's NASA's first voyage to Mars since the 2020 launch of the Perseverance rover, which arrived at the planet in spectacular fashion early the following year. Dave Limp, Blue Origin CEO, said in a post on X that the upcoming endeavor will be 'an exciting mission for New Glenn and Mars exploration,' and thanked NASA for 'riding with us to space.'

This Everyday Credit Card Habit Could Be Helping — or Hurting — Your Finances, According to a CFP

Question #30 of GOBankingRates' Top 100 Money Experts [LINK] Series By now, using your credit card has become a reflex. You're at the grocery store, handing it over to the cashier. You order a coffee at your favorite local spot and tap to pay. You take your seat again, where your laptop remains open to those airline tickets you've got to book — with your credit card, of course. You've got a good groove going. But sometimes, you wonder if your habit of using your credit card to pay for everyday purchases might be doing more harm than good. After all, you're racking up points and rewards, which is a good thing, right? What's not so good? Just how easy it can be to overspend when you're not seeing your actual cash leave your wallet or your checking account take a hit. Making this common way of using your credit card work for you can be a fine balancing act. Fortunately, Chloe Moore, CFP, founder of Financial Staples, has insights to help you walk that tightrope successfully. The Perks Can Be Worth It — If You Use Your Card Responsibly That regular habit of relying on your credit card to get your groceries or fill up your tank may seem simple enough, but it can be a great way to earn some significant rewards like cash back, points or airline miles. Moore calls these benefits 'a rebate for purchases you would have made without the card.' Moore is also keen on turning your everyday credit card purchases into the foundation of good credit. You know you need to have a solid credit rating to get a lot of what you want in life, from lower mortgage rates to better deals on car loans. And you get good credit by showing a history of making your payments on time. Smaller purchases, like a meal at that coffee shop or a tank of gas, make it easier for you to pay everything back quickly — boosting your credit. But Moore's advice comes with a catch. This plan only works if you don't treat your credit card like free money. 'Keep in mind that these cards are only beneficial when used responsibly, which means you don't spend more than you normally would on everyday expenses, and you have the ability to pay off the balance in full each month,' she said. It's Not a Good Approach if You Can't Control Your Spending Responsibility is the name of the game when it comes to using a credit card. If following a budget is more of an aspiration than a reality, you could all too easily fall into the spiral of credit card debt. 'Studies show that you're likely to spend more when using a credit card than with cash, and you're more likely to buy on impulse,' Moore said. If you're already struggling to stick to a budget or show caution in your spending, you can quickly find yourself in real trouble. By giving yourself permission to put groceries on your card, you might be unconsciously giving yourself permission to splurge on other things — things you don't need and can't pay for when the bill comes due. 'If you don't have a solid budget or control over your everyday purchases, you could be one wrong move away from getting into credit card debt,' Moore said. 'Any interest you pay for carrying over a balance far exceeds any benefits or rewards you'll receive from a credit card.' And it's not just interest that's at stake: Moore notes that missing a payment or having a high credit utilization ratio could ding your credit score. You Can Build Up to Everyday Use Even if you're not quite ready to responsibly make small, everyday purchases with your credit card, you can still put good practices in place that will help you build credit wisely. Moore suggests starting out by using credit cards regularly for fixed bills or regular expenses that you'd normally pay with your checking account. If you really want to get those rewards and perks right away, you could save for a large, planned purchase in advance so that you can immediately pay off the credit card bill. 'Also, remember that you're not limited to a single monthly payment,' Moore said. 'Making a credit card payment weekly or when you receive your paycheck could help ensure that you pay your balance in full and avoid costly interest.'
