Gandara opens new young adult housing facility
SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP)– The Gandara Center has cut the ribbon for housing for young adults through their 'SHINE' program.
The SHINE program is dedicated to providing stability, support and hope for young adults transitioning out of the youth services provided by the Department of Children and Families.
Department of Public Utilities says gas companies must cut bills by 5 percent
The apartments include two bedrooms, a bathroom, living room, kitchen, laundry and even a office or game room. They also provide the resources for young adults to reach self-sufficiency.
Lois Nesci, CEO of the Gandara Center, said it is all about providing an environment that is respectful for the people they serve.
'Which offers them housing and support for employment, education, physical and emotional health and socialization,' said Nesci.
The apartments will be filled by young adults ages 18 to 22 as a transitional place as they work to establish themselves. DCF is incharge of the placements.
The Gandara Center said they help over 100 young adults a year with their variety of services including the transitional housing and rapid rehousing.

Senator Markey said he plans to file an amendment to the Senate reconciliation bill to block Republicans' attempt to prevent states from regulating AI in the next ten years. Million-dollar lottery ticket sold in Franklin County
ERVING, Mass. (WWLP) – Someone who purchased a lottery ticket from a convenience store in Erving hit the jackpot with a $1 million prize! CST Nominee Trust of Greenfield has claimed a $1 million prize in the Massachusetts State Lottery's '$4,000,000 Gold 50X' instant ticket game on Tuesday. The trust chose the cash option for its prize on behalf of the winner, receiving a one-time payment of $650,000 (before taxes). Woman charged with seriously injuring trooper in hit-and-run on Mass. Pike in Chicopee The ticket was purchased at King Mart on Weatherheads Convenience Store at 63 French King Hwy in Erving. The retailer will get a $10,000 bonus for selling the winning ticket. Kamari B. Williams Scholarship presented to 9 local students
SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) – Several students received a scholarship named in honor of an educator and coach who passed away several years ago. Price Rite Marketplace marks 30 years, supplies local families with food, supplies, and support State Representative Bud Williams and Springfield Public Schools educator Dr. Gloria Williams presented scholarships to 9 outstanding Springfield public school students. It was all part of the 4th annual Kamari B. Williams scholarship awards ceremony. Kamari passed away in 2020 and is the son of Representative Williams and Dr. Williams. The family told 22News about some of the requirements for students to receive the scholarship. State Rep. and father of Kamari, Bud Williams, told 22News, 'We try to give away 8 to 10 scholarships, really portrayed as a young man, and we're so proud of him.' Kamari was a Springfield Public Schools teacher and counselor as well as a basketball coach at the High School of Science & Technology. Each recipient earned $1,000 as a result of their leadership, character, humility, and drive.
