Texas A&M running back details his journey back from injury during spring press conference
Injuries are an unavoidable aspect of sports, particularly in football, one of the most physical games on the planet. Unfortunately, Texas A&M Aggies running back Rueben Owens faced a major setback at the beginning of the 2024 season when a foot injury sidelined him for most of the year.
Heading into spring 2024, Owens was slated as the starting running back after an impressive freshman campaign where he earned SEC All-Freshman Team honors. His standout performance included amassing 743 total yards, which led all freshmen in the SEC and highlighted his bright future. However, disaster struck during the first scrimmage of fall camp, as the former five-star prospect sustained an injury that kept him out until Week 14. Despite limited action upon his return, his determination and resilience were evident.
As the Aggies prepare for the 2025 football season, Rueben Owens is back in action and determined to showcase his talent. Having recovered from his injury, he has spoken openly about the challenges of his recovery and his journey back to full strength.
Owens on how he dealt with missing nearly every game during the 2024 season
"It really hurt because I felt like I was having a good fall camp and was going to have a big sophomore year."
"I just had to get through it and get to work immediately so I could get back as fast as I could."
Rueben Owens on learning from running back Le'Veon Moss
"Seeing Le'Veon (Moss) and basically learning. You learn a lot from the sideline. I know a lot more now that I didn't know then."
Owens on his message to Le'Veon Moss after his injury mid-season
"It's football. Injuries happen. He got right after it, too. ... You just have to have a strong mind to get through it, and you'll be good."
Owens explained how he felt at the end of the season and where he is now
"Towards the bowl game, I felt alright, but I wasn't 100 percent."
"Now, I feel a lot better. It still has a little pain to it, but nothing I can't get through during the spring."
Owens has gained strength this offseason, which will help his running style
"I got way stronger. It'll help me break tackles more, run harder."

Michigan State football is halfway through fall preseason camp, with the team holding their first scrimmage this past weekend. That scrimmage provided head coach Jonathan Smith, with some interesting insight on the team -- which he shared on Monday. Smith met with the local media on Monday to talk about the first few weeks of fall preseason camp as the Spartans enter week three of practice. This was also the first time for media availability following the Spartans' first preseason scrimmage, which was a hot topic during Smith's press conference. Check out what Smith had to say about the team's first scrimmage and how practice has gone the first two weeks of fall camp in the highlights and full video sections below: Highlights Some of the notable topics covered during Smith's media session on Monday were... Jonathan Smith provides interesting update on MSU O-Line depth
Depth within the offensive line was a concern last season for the Spartans, but that doesn't appear to be the case anymore. Michigan State is in the midst of fall preseason camp, with the Spartans kicking off week three of practice earlier on Monday. As part of progressing into week three, Spartans head coach Jonathan Smith met with the media on Monday to discuss a number of topics surrounding his team. One of those was the depth he's seeing at offensive line. According to a post from Emmett Matasovsky of Spartan Shadows, Smith said there's a battle for the starting five spots on the offensive line, with "close to 10 guys" still in the mix. This quote is particularly interesting because, to me, this suggests they feel pretty good about essentially their entire two deep at offensive line. Michigan State's offensive line has been a weakness for the Spartans for what feels like a decade at this point. Sure, there have been bright spots along the way, but it hasn't been a unit that has given the fan base much faith over at least the last few seasons at a minimum. If Michigan State can put together an average Big Ten offensive line, I feel very confident in what they can achieve this season on that side of the ball. The skilled position groups all seem to be upper-tier in the league, with the offensive line being the biggest question mark. However, it's starting to sound like we should be putting more faith and expectations into that unit as we inch closer and close to the start of the 2025 season. UNC basketball to host four-star recruit for visit
The UNC basketball program will get a key recruit on campus. The North Carolina Tar Heels had a top 10 recruiting class for the 2025 cycle, headlined by the commitment of five-star forward Caleb Wilson. But for future classes, the Tar Heels have yet to land a commitment from the 2026 and 2027 classes. It's way too early to panic, however, as the Tar Heels continue to build their recruiting board. One prospect in the 2027 class that UNC has its eyes on is four-star combo guard LJ Smith out of Oak Hill. Smith has a total of 17 offers and now he's starting to set some visits. Per Travis Branham of 247Sports, Smith has scheduled an official visit to Georgia as well as unofficial visits to North Carolina and Tennessee. He will be on Georgia's campus for the weekend of September 27th. No dates have been announced for the visits to North Carolina and Tennessee. The 6-foot-4, 180-pound combo guard hails out of Mouth Of Wilson, Virginia and plays at Oak Hill Academy as he's one of the top prospects overall in the 2027 class. He's ranked No. 26 nationally, No. 2 combo guard and the No. 2 player in the state of Virginia per the 247Sports recruiting rankings.
