'I'm coming back 100 percent' Texas A&M senior RB is healthy and confident
'I'm coming back 100 percent' Texas A&M senior RB is healthy and confident Texas A&M's 2025 offense will be defined by the running back, as starting quarterback Marcel Reed will need a balanced offense to reach his potential, and finally get the Aggies past the eight-win threshold. This starts and ends with senior running back Le'Veon Moss, who, after enduring a knee injury during the latter half of the 2024 season, has all but rehabbed his way back to the lineup this spring. However, head coach Mike Elko and OC Collin Klein were overly cautious during the Maroon & White spring game, opting to keep Moss sidelined while sophomore Rueben Owens and both freshmen backs took a majority of the snaps, which seemed like the plan all along. On Friday, I wrote about the possibility that Moss might not be 100% by the start of the season, as Pro Football Focus's Max Chadwick stated that if Moss gets back to his 2024, he will likely emerge as the top RB prospect in the 2026 NFL draft. Moss was on his way to rushing for 1,000-plus yards on the season before sustaining already accumulating 759 yards and 10 touchdowns, averaging 6.3 yards per carry. On Saturday, Moss took to social media in response to Chadwick's comments, and for Aggie fans who were waiting for an official update, what's better than hearing from the man himself? "I'm coming back a 100 percent I promise 🫶🏾💯" While Moss is certainly confident, A&M's running back depth will be the reason Moss stays fresh and gets back to form, knowing that a healthy Rueben Owens, Amari Daniels, and, yes, even senior E.J Smith, who is back for a final season, will not only help the Aggies achieve their goals but help Moss accomplish his NFL dream. Texas A&M running back details his journey back from injury during spring press conference
Texas A&M running back details his journey back from injury during spring press conference Injuries are an unavoidable aspect of sports, particularly in football, one of the most physical games on the planet. Unfortunately, Texas A&M Aggies running back Rueben Owens faced a major setback at the beginning of the 2024 season when a foot injury sidelined him for most of the year. Heading into spring 2024, Owens was slated as the starting running back after an impressive freshman campaign where he earned SEC All-Freshman Team honors. His standout performance included amassing 743 total yards, which led all freshmen in the SEC and highlighted his bright future. However, disaster struck during the first scrimmage of fall camp, as the former five-star prospect sustained an injury that kept him out until Week 14. Despite limited action upon his return, his determination and resilience were evident. As the Aggies prepare for the 2025 football season, Rueben Owens is back in action and determined to showcase his talent. Having recovered from his injury, he has spoken openly about the challenges of his recovery and his journey back to full strength. Owens on how he dealt with missing nearly every game during the 2024 season "It really hurt because I felt like I was having a good fall camp and was going to have a big sophomore year." "I just had to get through it and get to work immediately so I could get back as fast as I could." Rueben Owens on learning from running back Le'Veon Moss "Seeing Le'Veon (Moss) and basically learning. You learn a lot from the sideline. I know a lot more now that I didn't know then." Owens on his message to Le'Veon Moss after his injury mid-season "It's football. Injuries happen. He got right after it, too. ... You just have to have a strong mind to get through it, and you'll be good." Owens explained how he felt at the end of the season and where he is now "Towards the bowl game, I felt alright, but I wasn't 100 percent." "Now, I feel a lot better. It still has a little pain to it, but nothing I can't get through during the spring." Owens has gained strength this offseason, which will help his running style "I got way stronger. It'll help me break tackles more, run harder." Contact/Follow us @AggiesWire on X and like our page on Facebook to follow ongoing coverage of Texas A&M news, notes and opinions. 'He's just gotta get more confident' Rueben Owens discusses QB Marcel Reed's progress
'He's just gotta get more confident' Rueben Owens discusses QB Marcel Reed's progress Texas A&M starting quarterback Marcel Reed entered the 2025 spring season with plenty of pressure on his shoulders to improve as a passer, knowing that with Conner Weigman transferring to Houston this offseason, he will lead the Aggie offense into next season as one of the faces of the program. However, it's hard to gauge how much he can improve over the short spring period leading up to the Maroon & White spring game on April 19, and while those of us who can attend a certain number of practices, the opinions of the players around him provide more insight into his potential improvement, including a fellow sophomore playmaker who is returning from a season-ending injury. On Wednesday, head coach Mike Elko was joined by former five-star running back Rueben Owens, who is entering his second entire season after missing all but two games in 2024. Since Friday's first practice, Owens has been one of the many bright spots who is set to finally explode on the scene after gaining more strength this offseason to add to his already elite skillset. "I got way stronger. It'll help me break tackles more, run harder." Concerning Marcel Reed's improvement as a passer, some Aggie fans and rival fanbases are already taking Owen's words out of context after he praised Reed's arm strength, but also noted that he needs to continue gaining confidence as a passer. "Marcel (Reed) has been throwing pretty good. He's just got to get more confident in throwing because he can throw the ball." For those of us used to preseason hype, that may or may not be true regarding quarterback play; this is a refreshing take for a team that is looking to finally get over the eight-win hump, and provide Aggie fans something to look forward to once the season rolls around.
